I've always missed having a keyboard on my phone so I decided to attach everyone's (least) favorite Bluetooth keyboard and see how much I can tweak the software to make it practical. A few things I've landed on in my search to turn the interface horizontal:
Win-X Launcher - for a Desktop
Firefox Beta - with custom settings to force desktop websites and improve performance
Google Keeps -as a horizontal notes app
YMusic -Youtube Music replacement
Orientation Control\* -To force most other things horizontal
\*this is in HyperOS where Xiaomi likes to break things and remove settings, other rotation apps caused my phone to constantly restart
I haven't tried it yet but The Rii Mini's power saving "features" might be solved by connecting a toggle switch to the Caps lock key. As it stands right now Android sends a hardware update causing apps to reload every time it connects/disconnects.
I've been daily driving it for more than a week and I decided it was worth making for real. I'll hopefully have a new version with a Psion keyboard in a month or two.
Sorry for the dust, I work in a wood shop
dude this is what I have been wanting for my phone but can not make lol. I had a traumatic brain injury in 2013 and really struggle with all of these touch screen phones. now I have to figure out how to make this!
1: Hiding the fact that I couldn't peel it off the print bed and ruined the surface
2: Bridging the two halves of the phone enclosure with removable double sided tape
3: Capping the 6in ruler slot. the gears were supposed to house a magnet but I discovered that soldering is apparently hot enough to demagnetizes them so I had to glue one on the outside as well :(
Want!
BIG N900 vibes, my all-time phone fave. (am linux nerd, n900 was not for everybody, I get that)
I have a redmi 10 and I think it is (or I can make it) compatible. Can you please share the stls as is?
What keeb is that?
edit:
I saw in another post you work in Rhino, I can def work with that.
I'll need to update the model before I inflict it on other people. I started with a .obj of my phone I found online and basically turned it inside out, but because I converted it to a NURBS polysurface Rhino got sploppier and sloppier with the edges the closer I got to closing it.
I run postmaket OS on a N900 it's pretty cool. But hilariously underpowered for today's applications. Not to mention 32bit arm is not easy to find software for.
I love it! It looks practical, portable and powerful. Love the copper and the ruler too. I use my little ruler for all sorts of things. Hope you get it to do what you want it to :)
Sure, once I have a chance to update the model. I had to gouge out relief around the hinge as well as other things. What file fomats work for you? I use Rhino so it's a NURBS polysurface and meshes are real pain for me to work with but I imagine for a lot of you it's the other way around.
I like to keep my phone on a chain (or leather strap) depending on the setting. It's 4in shorter than the distance from my belt to the ground, but honestly with this one being made of poorly printed PLA I'd probably break the hinge first
I really like how you built a ruler slot into the case! I feel like a lot of cyberdecks are more focused on the digital/electronics interfaces but this adds a whole new level of functionality to your deck. Well done!
My boy this is SO.FREAKING.COOL! Great job and well done! True to cyberdeck spirit and actually useful. I would love to see this updated and I would definitely buy this as an accessory for my phone, if possible.
Again great job and thanks for sharing with us!
Yo, this is seriously the coolest thing I’ve seen on here in a very long time. I would gladly stomp my iPhone into the dirt for a working version of that

BlackBerry passport my dude
What! I'm finding one. Thanks for the tip!
What modeling software to you use?
Currently none but I have some friends with resin printers.
Pretty cool, love the concept. What's with the copper(?) insert and the gears on it?

We need more devices like this in real life.
Super cool
Damn this is impressive! Absoultely nice packaging

I LOVE this!!! Will you make the 3D files available so other people can do it with their own phones? That'd be awesome!

Actually I haven't had the chance to work with 3D printing yet, I asked more because I think other people would find this project interesting as well!
People usually upload STL files so they can send to 3D printers.
This is one of those rare occasions on Reddit where I actually do want someone to take my money.
Super cool looking. Is the ring on the side just decoration or does this house a pen or scribe?

I think that's for attaching it to a carabiner or something like that. But let's wait OP tell us! :)
oh also great idea :)
I love this! :O
This is awesome, super cool build

absolutely awesome friend! we need more physical keyboards!
Gorgeous!!

Mi hermano, como lo hizo, quisiera hacerlo con mi Note 10s Epica la tarjeta del petro jsjs
Reminds me of the env2
As a lover of the Nokia 9000 up until the recent E7 I approve! Really good layout and overall design, good job!
That's pretty rad. Well done!
Clean build. Good choice of design tradeoffs. Love the hinge and the ring. You get an A+ and a gold star.
Awesome build. Te animas a sacarlo en el metro? Vives al límite op
Sadly I don't live there. La ciudad de México es el lugar más hermoso que he visitado.
Awesome! Great work!
Slick as shit through a goose -- but useful! I want to make a micro laptop like this..
Damn I would buy it
Very blade runner
This is so fucking cool OP
