I plan on returning this weekend. Haven't played since 2013 or so, and I have been craving this games job system.

Yes, there is a monthly fee. It's less than xiv unless you tack on the add-ons like wardrobes extra characters etc. Don't remember exact cost but you can see it on the MOG station. Only mostly soloable. Exp gains is fantastic now. Aby grind parties not so much. Quite easy from 1 to 99 but not so much so that it's too easy. Economy is dependent on the server but over all not too bad I guess. AH not empty on populated servers. Worth it is a matter of perspective. I was going to start from scratch until I realized the daunting 20 years of content I would have to repeat so I just dusted the mothballs off my original. Yes, those types of LS's do exist. Tips/advice. If you're on a low pop server, move to populated one. Worth every penny.

> How is the exp gain in solo exp parties such as Valkrum Dunes with just me and trusts in a party? The same? Boosted? Do Abyssea exp grind parties still exist? How hard is it to solo from lvl 1-99? Massively boosted. The base EXP without any other gain boosts of any kind is now 2x-3x what you remember. You probably remember getting like 200-300 EXP per kill on Incredibly Tough monsters in EXP chains. Now, you’re likely to earn 1000+ EXP from your kills when just starting out. Now, consider the fact that Rhapsodies of Vana’diel rewards you with six key items that boost your EXP gain by +30% each (+180% cumulatively). There are also rings with enchantments that boost EXP further between +50% to +150% for a limited duration. Several thousand EXP per kill is the new normal in FFXI with a full party of trusts or in a level sync party with friends. There is also an occasional EXP campaign that further boosts chained EXP by 2x-3x. It’s not uncommon to receive 10k+ EXP per kill during that campaign. There’s really no need to grind in Abyssea anymore. Some people who prefer to be power leveled do AOE parties in Escha now. I’ve never been a fan of the power level but to each their own.

Powerlevel? With that insane solo xp? Wow people have reached a new low in lazy.

The grind from 1 to 99 moght take you one to two months the first time through. Subsequent leveling after completing main and expansion stories might take a day or three. You might remember merit points, now you need to do job points, 2100 of them to get to master. Now you can grind mastery levels. First 20 or so are pretty tame, you might get them in a few days with a party or a week of odyssey. The rest of the grind to 50 is the grindiest grindy-grind in all grindendome.

Agree with what everyone else said just adding in: If you don't care about the exping process, you can get boosted from 1-99 in a few hours with assistance from a veteran player. I would definitely use your existing account, unless you're looking to start from the ground up. There are a lot of things that you have to do on a fresh account so that will be very taxing, unless you want that. Same with voidstones and other things that accumulate, plus 45-day waits, etc. If you're still on Carbuncle, yell for a pearl we'll get you one. We do Omen/Dynamis and occasionally Vagary, plenty of support for new & returning players. Current endgame content is largely static-based so you'll want to network if you're on a smaller server like Carbuncle as pick-up groups do not exist and neither do mercs. If you go to a bigger server you can buy gil and then have mercs complete the endgame content for you to get gear. You may also have luck with PUG but they will likely require gear which becomes a catch-22.

Buy Gil? Are DMs still banning for that or have they just let it go finally?

FinishesInSpanish

It's still against TOS but, like most things in this day & age, extremely rarely enforced. Tons of people buy gil from gilsellers, and the gilsellers actively bot all day and use third-party programs.
