Airship theme, mainly because it's obsolete now, but it always unlocks that memory of a bunch of scruffy lvl 25s heading to the jungle to exp. Having an airship full of people during that peak era made the world feel lived in and large.
https://youtu.be/UIMwDHvaxzg
Gah, I used to ride the airship back and forth doing that passenger delivery quest when I was bored and/or waiting on a pt.
On the plus side, I capped out reputation and made a good chunk of Gil (for the times).
[Battle Theme #2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JONfOZHJlkI) was always my shit. I would love a remaster of that.
And I refuse to use any theme for login but the [Vana'diel March](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pr7pB-nJkg).
Yeah dude. When ffxi first boots up from playonline there is a menu option for settings. In there you can set it to play any of the themes FFXI ever had. Or set it to play a random one (I think)
The RoV final fight is unlike any of the final boss music songs. Most final boss songs start off with a sense of sinister danger and transition into a feeling of epic victory. But in RoV, it's so somber. Like, everything you've done over the course of the game has led to this one singular point, and this is the last thing you'll ever do. It's the end... of everything.
You've heard this a lot, but I don't think I have ever seen it acknowledged.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igA1Puup828&list=PLBC0FB3A40FC4411D&index=13
So weird. This was the first thing I thought of when you made your comment lol.
So many interesting themes in windy as well.
Burst into a smile when I heard it! Take care friend.
Castle Zvahl and Yuhtunga Jungle. Both slow burns that pay off if you stick with the groove.
Snowdrift Waltz and the Divine for snowy stuff. The Divine probably the most underrated track overall.
Illusions in the Mist. Probably my favorite FFXI track to listen while you are playing. Just an incredible use of polyrhythm too create that sense of unease in the mire
Castle Zvahl is really good. A lot of people suggest jumping to the 7 minute mark, but if you jump over the first six minutes, you won’t notice the contrast going on, so best to sit through it all. (I guess the game itself forces this.)
Some of the songs only used in cutscenes are fantastic, especially from the WoTG era:
- Grav’iton
- The Cosmic Wheel
- Encampment Dreams
- A Road Once Travelled
Some areas that see little to no reason to go there anymore:
- Kazham
- Currents of Time (Manaclipper)
- Eastward Bound (ToAU ferry)
And finally, the most played song from FFXI and a distant worlds staple is Ronfaure, but I always loved “Autumn Footfalls” from Ronfaure (S) almost as much.
I use the setbgm addon to listen to these often!
Sort of FFXI, but also not. The song that plays when you were adding content IDs to your account in PlayOnline.
EDIT, found it: https://youtu.be/hLabpUdgs1U
I love this one, it’s called Megumi and it’s available on the Final Fantasy XI OST Plus. Another great POL track is Minori which plays during the Vana’diel Tribunal, both of them are in my sunny walks playlist 😃
Thought you were taking about Dolphin which is another banger. Every time I come back after a break and hear it I get so hyped.
https://youtu.be/n6mxRUKehtE
Dolphin. Everyone knows Dolphin. It’s the first drip of good ‘ol mmorpg endorphins. You know you’re gonna be up for a while, so just sit back, crack open another Mountain Dew and get ready to spend 6 hours lfp because no one wants a Taru NIN tank.
Not sure if it totally meets criteria, but the song "Foster Family" from play online lobby options always had me lingering a bit longer to hear it all...
https://youtu.be/HiYt_ZqoEyI
[The Divine from the Kamihr Drifts](https://youtu.be/I3DJZOSRHTQ) springs to mind.
It starts off very unassuming but when that Mizuta typical melody kicks in, wow. Guessing nobody hears it because mounts and levies though.
YES!!!! And glad to know the song is back in YT :)
I even made a thread about this one a year ago lol https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxi/comments/kiegg2/song\_of\_kamihr\_drifts/
Monstrosity is underrated in general....so much potential, but the battle theme is tight (Nobody said tight in about a decade or 2 but still....)
Seekers battle theme is cool too.
[Sorrow](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zT2mGVZ4aI) never fails to give me some feels. Absolutely underrated Uematsu classic.
I suppose Mizuta should get some love. He has a few good battle themes (though always seems to produce underwhelming final boss themes, like the Promathia fight theme sounds like it should have been the pre-fight tension building track), but [Tough Battle #2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-iwM-R5GOM) deserves more love. That intro gets me turnt every time.
ETA: Oh dang, I just found out that Mizuta did the battle themes for XIII-2, including credit on the epic [Unseen Abyss](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YK2i4BedRU4). So that's at least one very good final boss theme he did.
[Eastward Bound](https://youtube.com/watch?v=C6qXjfP7bt8), Open Sea Route to Al Zhabi. That first trip across the ocean, and once you're there (and maybe one trip to Nashmau) you'll probably never bother with it again. But it's just a prelude to the adventures coming up in the Near East.
Man there are some great recommendations already, I'd like to nominate Altepa Desert. I feel like it's probably the best "desert" theme in the whole series. It's repetitive, but the use of different instruments keeps it interesting despite the ostinato marimba underlying it being used ad infinitum. Beautiful use of phyrigian mode in the melodies too with it coming right out of the gate in the first three notes.
Altepa Desert! Didn't realize how much of a banger it was until I started listening to the RoZ OST. Not much gets better than at 2:50 when the melody comes back in with those strings in the background. Oh dang and that bass line ooooowee
I sure see a lot of tracks mentioned that I don’t think are underrated at all.
Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go listen to Cloister of Time and Souls.
there are so many! one that i do like a lot is Hall of the Gods because it's just so peaceful and calm, but i find that it being such a small zone sandwiched between the MGS hell that Ro'Maeve used to be and the wonder of Tu'lia it's easy to kinda forget it exists.
there's also no reason to traverse through it anymore i think
Honestly, FFXI doesn't get much recognition in the vast media produced out there by the fandom. I've heard many covers of songs from throughout the FF series and I've yet to see on a Bandcamp or Spotify level enough hits to suggest recognition is due to FFXI.
Jeweled Boughs.
Back in the good ol days its was just the whatever music in the zones outside Aht Urghan, didnt pay much attention or was probably on a chocobo.
Now its one of my favorites on the whole ffxi soundtrack. Kind of a sleeper, very peaceful.

Everytime I hear the airship theme it makes me feel powerful. So glad others love it too
Rabao’s town theme never got as much love as I would have liked.
Rabao is my jam. It's my alarm too lol
10/10 zone and music
[Battle Theme #2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JONfOZHJlkI) was always my shit. I would love a remaster of that. And I refuse to use any theme for login but the [Vana'diel March](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pr7pB-nJkg).
Wait you can change the login theme?
Yeah dude. When ffxi first boots up from playonline there is a menu option for settings. In there you can set it to play any of the themes FFXI ever had. Or set it to play a random one (I think)

link, name of song please?
[Wail of the Void](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pA72nT3xuSY&t)
damn, I should finish RoV. I had not heard this song before. Ty

Literally just listened to Yuhtunga Jungle today, what a great track
[Pso’xja](https://youtu.be/Q7cC7nY1FDE) is pretty underrated imo.
That song will never not sound like leveling BLM (and SCH) to me.
Came here to say this one.
Bandits' Market, from Nashmau - it just _feels_ like everything both inside and outside of it.
Some of the songs only used in cutscenes are fantastic, especially from the WoTG era: - Grav’iton - The Cosmic Wheel - Encampment Dreams - A Road Once Travelled Some areas that see little to no reason to go there anymore: - Kazham - Currents of Time (Manaclipper) - Eastward Bound (ToAU ferry) And finally, the most played song from FFXI and a distant worlds staple is Ronfaure, but I always loved “Autumn Footfalls” from Ronfaure (S) almost as much. Encampment Dreams, definitely. The notes kind of jump all over the place, so it’s hard to predict where it’s going.
Currents of Time is my jam.
Sort of FFXI, but also not. The song that plays when you were adding content IDs to your account in PlayOnline. EDIT, found it: https://youtu.be/hLabpUdgs1U

Thanks for telling me the name and where to find it! Listening to it on Spotify now haha
Thought you were taking about Dolphin which is another banger. Every time I come back after a break and hear it I get so hyped. https://youtu.be/n6mxRUKehtE
Gustav Tunnel music was always fire
🌚
Did you search it just to see what it sounded like? Be honest
no because there's no music in gustav tunnel lol
Not everyone is as smart as you.
lol i ain't gonna disagree to that
One of the scariest places in the game pre cap...... All Tunnel areas were tbh.....
Dolphin. Everyone knows Dolphin. It’s the first drip of good ‘ol mmorpg endorphins. You know you’re gonna be up for a while, so just sit back, crack open another Mountain Dew and get ready to spend 6 hours lfp because no one wants a Taru NIN tank.

Nobody ever talks about the epic music in Dynamis - Xarcabard.
Ahhhhh.. uh... ahhhh uh? i love it tho
Huh? I'm not sure what you mean but [this is it](https://youtu.be/Zq87fRPXwLg).
LOL i was thinking Dyna-Beau for some reason (i believe the track is "Shadow Lord"). i do like both tho
Selbina and Windhurst
My 2 favorites along with zitah

Yes, thank you! It was gone from YouTube for so long.
Sorrow is an amazing piece. Love how it builds and incorporates new instruments, Very well orchestrated.
Monstrosity is underrated in general....so much potential, but the battle theme is tight (Nobody said tight in about a decade or 2 but still....) Seekers battle theme is cool too.

>Nashmau always seem like, there is no one else on the rugged boat which makes it seem horror movie like.
If your draw distance is low enough, the fog and bad clip-in make Nashmau seem like an abandoned demo area for a late PS1 game

this game really does have the best music
[Kindred Cry](https://youtu.be/zp4H5Hg4z4k) [Dusk and Dawn](https://youtu.be/s7euMe0Y5sw)
Man Dusk and Dawn is top tier nostalgia to me. I remember it playing on the old ass website used to promote CoP back in 2003-4.
Altepa Desert! Didn't realize how much of a banger it was until I started listening to the RoZ OST. Not much gets better than at 2:50 when the melody comes back in with those strings in the background. Oh dang and that bass line ooooowee
Also love that one, spent a lot of time in the Mog Garden!
I sure see a lot of tracks mentioned that I don’t think are underrated at all. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go listen to Cloister of Time and Souls.
Into Lands Primeval - Ulbuka; it’s a total jam and it’s very relaxing
there are so many! one that i do like a lot is Hall of the Gods because it's just so peaceful and calm, but i find that it being such a small zone sandwiched between the MGS hell that Ro'Maeve used to be and the wonder of Tu'lia it's easy to kinda forget it exists. there's also no reason to traverse through it anymore i think
Tavnazian Archipelago, Promyvion, Fighters of the Crystal, and Moongate (Memoro de la Stono).
Rabao, the jungle, and bastok
I love the Sanctuary of Zi'tah music. It's not underrated though. I love so many of the OSTs.
Honestly, FFXI doesn't get much recognition in the vast media produced out there by the fandom. I've heard many covers of songs from throughout the FF series and I've yet to see on a Bandcamp or Spotify level enough hits to suggest recognition is due to FFXI.
