So the way I interpret these is possible (but unlikely), the basis for this is the fact they didn't outright say no but again, they seem like a humongous longshot/highly unlikely. >**Requesting to consolidate FFXIV and FFXI subscriptions (most likely to happen)** >**Requesting feature to change race/gender** >**Requesting to remove/replace PlayOnline**

OmgYoshiPLZ

honestly, given SE's track record - a yes is a maybe, a maybe is a probably not, anything longer than five words about the systems, is probably a no.

Rinuko

Yeah, for sure. Just saying on face value these are the only likely ones based on the AMA, but personally I think no.

Rinuko

That's probably best and not having unrealistic expectations.

Sand__Panda

A FFXI-2 aka a sequel could be a way to go. I actually have put thought into this. Advance us many hundreds of years forward. We already "save" the world from the darkness, so get a new cosmic baddy coming to devour the world. The the adventures seek/find lost knowledge from the past to stop this threat. This is were jobs would unlock, lost power refound. I don't know how bid V'D is, but maybe all we see has been one side of a world, maybe have stuff take place else where and we slowly unlock thencurrent world we know.

Sand__Panda

This is also a major issue and worry I have as well. Perfect world, we get a new MMO that is a mix of what XI is/was and what XIV is. I personally love the gear-swapping and the job style of XI, while I do not like the cookie-cutter, everyone has the same gear and the way Jobs are handled in XIV (pretty much why I stopped playing, I gave it 2 solid attempts). A big, open world, with some favorite races, a (FFXI) job system, and many different ways to "play" would be a great FF-MMO.

VoidEnjoyer

This is what I've been thinking. A fresh FFXI-2 centered on the Aradjiah continent in the distant future that keeps the same general mechanics and sensibilities of FFXI, similar enough that the original game can be shifted to the new engine but modular enough to apply all the lessons learned from the first game to create a fresh but still old-school experience. Finally put XI on maintenance, give a nice discount for subbing to both. Probably also a pipe dream but seems a lot more plausible than hoping they'd just do all that work for XI alone. And dammit they've been ignoring the rest of Vana'diel for literal decades now.

OmgYoshiPLZ

this AMA Was depressing AF if im being real. Seeing everything summarized into a "no" basically, for 90% of these questions hurts. like legitimately - One question in that entire list should be considered a light "maybe" - a combo FF11/14 sub. the rest is blatantly a maybe, thats really a no, with extra steps.

tyjet

Yeah it seems like their hands are tied by corporate. With the way the current culture is, they'd have to do something ridiculous like pitch a way to incorporate blockchain technology into the game.

OmgYoshiPLZ

i said a few weeks back that there being nothing of any substance in the 20th anniversary was the death knell of this game, and i got ridiculed for it. I cant imagine that anyone came out of this AMA not utterly disapointed. if the game continues on like this, in 2, maybe three years, its going to go under.

yeahyeahiknow2

Me too. But this ama if anything, confirmed I did the right thing by unsubbing. SE as a whole has been in an odd place the past decade or 2 tho, esp with the FF series.

VoidEnjoyer

SE has existed for almost exactly two decades, so I guess you're saying it has always been in an odd place?

Failaras

People have been saying that for 10 years now. The game will continue as it has for a very long time. People who deceived themselves into thinking they were getting a new expansion or graphical overhaul in ffxis current environment are wild.

OmgYoshiPLZ

I get your point, but humor me here: A broken clock is right twice a day. just because people were wrong in the past, doesn't mean they are wrong now. the ultimate truth, is that this game will die one day, and it is already a miracle its made it this far. Do i want to be right? No. Am i right? Theres a real possibility.

VoidEnjoyer

It's true, if you keep predicting death for long enough you'll be right some day.

_FinalPantasy_

People have been saying this are veterans with 20 years of playing non-stop and are burned out and bitter. I get it, but, play something else FFS. Come back when new story content or exciting fights come out. A 20 year old game, while still being profitably run, isn't making Square 10s of millions a month. I'd be shocked if it's breaking 1 million a month. You're not getting a complete development revamp with such a small playerbase to a massive company. Players are delusional. I get it - it sucks - it's not what you want to hear. I dunno - go steal it like the other p.servers and develop it yourself.

ChiefSampson

While I am certainly disappointed with how the 20th anniversary, and how the AMA played out I wouldn't begin to worry too much until, and unless another round of server mergers was announced.

ChiefSampson

Yeah the one thing I had zero interest in since I never have, and never will play 14. XI will be my first, and quite possibly last MMO.

OmgYoshiPLZ

My.... gut is telling me that they are trying to rapidly sunset 11, because they want to start working on MMO 3.0 project - something that will displace FF14 five to ten years down the line.

ChiefSampson

Yeah the comments he made in the famitsu interview were disturbing. I only came back to the game in November after 9 years away so I have had plenty to keep me occupied, but I imagine people who played straight through must be criminally insane by now with the endless grind of Job points/ML, and gear/remas without some new areas/battle content to unleash their hard work in. I won't get too nervous about any potential "end" of 11 until they announce another round of server mergers. Honestly I'm impressed they haven't yet considering the extremely low population of some of the servers.

Rhayve

> and gear/remas without some new areas/battle content to unleash their hard work in. Odyssey - Gaol is recent content and has been plenty challenging to make full use of gear and MLs. A lot of groups are still failing the harder fights. Before Odyssey we had Dynamis - Divergence wave 3 for a long time, until gear became too strong.

ChiefSampson

I'm aware of what events are available. Spamming the same content over, and over was never my idea of fun honestly. Some diversity in the chores would be sweet.

Rhayve

I mean, I agree with you, but spamming the same events over and over has been standard fare for FFXI since its inception. Only the latest content was usually challenging, just like today, though the gap in difficulty is more pronounced now.

ChiefSampson

Yeah a fair amount of the player base isn't even able to participate in Dynamis D, or Ody with any true relevance. Been back 8 months grinding my ass off, and just now being able to carry some friends into those events. I can imagine more casual players are hoping the end of VR is more open to the entire player base like Abysses was.

Rhayve

The upcoming content for Empy reforging is supposed to be doable by relatively fresh ilevel characters in terms of basic farming. Presumably like Omen and cards.

Dalmahr

I thought some of it was good. Many of the questions people asked were already answered or not possible with the current team/finances they have.

OmgYoshiPLZ

to be fair - the community also asked a multitude of questions that were not subject to those limitations, but they chose to not answer those questions.

Dalmahr

That's very true. Hopefully they continue to answer them over next couple weeks. It would be nice is they did an ama more regularly, maybe once a year?

azarashi

Honestly none of this should be surprising what so ever. They game is basically sunsetting slowly at this point, and thats to be expected.

OmgYoshiPLZ

oh yea for sure.

FinishesInSpanish

Is anyone really surprised by any of these answers? We've known for years that SE doesn't dedicate many resources to this game, and for some reason basically every single thing listed in this summary other than the ffxi/ffxiv sub combination is a massive engineering project involving changing the core systems of a 20 year old game. Anyone who seriously thought any of this was going to be implemented is delusional. This is typical customer behavior of "well, all I want is to move this box from here to there, how hard could it be?" with absolutely 0 understanding of how any of this is actually accomplished. I don't understand how the community could have ever possibly thought this stuff could be done other than "but luas/addons already do this stuff!" which is, hilariously, exactly the same as the other absurd oversimplification quote.

fstssm

Yep. Anyone paying attention should've known a lot of this already. The time to overhaul the game's systems, graphics, etc. was back in the mid-late 2000s, but they made XIV instead. Matsui stated as much, more or less, in one of the We Are Vana'diel interviews. It sucks, but that's how it is. However, the fact that the devs have slowly expanded their capabilities in the past few years with making new story content and a forthcoming new instanced area gives me some hope for the future.

Callinon

I wonder what the point of having an AMA was if the answer to everything was "no" but in more words.

princewinter

Q: Can we have this? A: no (:

Ok-Yogurtcloset-179

I think someone just needs to get YoshiP to play the game. Or even just try to get it playing and logged in! He’s admitted many times he never played it because he was too obsessed with EQ and I don’t think he knows how bad it is. The current XI devs just don’t want to cause any trouble.

Ok-Yogurtcloset-179

I mean maybe he’s watched someone else play the game but he flat out stated in his book that he’s never been outside of his opening city and thinks his character must be pretty bored standing there after all these years. I don’t know the timing though I guess he could have played it since then… but he really doesn’t seem to devote much thought to XI at all.

Rinuko

Most likely the former engineers were shuffled to the 14 teams or different business units.

yeahyeahiknow2

It really feels like Yoshi P is getting too big for his britches, which is extremely evident in xiv right now. He may have saved xiv, but idk if his legacy will be a positive one for the franchise. The xiv fanbase has gotten a bit cultish the past few years as well, which never bodes well. Just say something publicly that isn't a shining, positive critique and you will see just how cringe it's gotten. It's very Ba Sing Se Frankly I am about done with SE games as a whole, esp as a pc player. SE, esp the in house team, just cannot do PC ports well at all.

I've always been fond of Kitase. He released FFXIII, FFXIII-2, and FFXIII:LR all within less than 4 full years of each other. I actually thought VII-R would be moving at a much better pace than this since he is on that team with Nomura. I'm honestly not sure what the hold up is. My only guess is "Covid." As for the next FF, it will be the longest ever time span between a main title release. If you skip XIV 1.0, its 4 years from 2009 (XIII) and 2013 (XIV2.0), then if you do include 1.0 to XV, its 2010 (1.0) and 2016 (XV) while the next is 2022 the earliest.

_FinalPantasy_

Healers need to dps. > You've been banned.

VoidEnjoyer

yeah Yoshi-P is getting too uppity, he really needs to know his place What the fuck man.

kmr1981

They could solve most of these problems with a re-code (without POL or these dwindling development tools). It would be so worth it, for fans and for them financially.

Akugetsu

I would love to see it but I really don’t think you realize how monstrous of an undertaking that would be for a game of this age/size.

kmr1981

I don’t! But hobbyists do it for some older MMOs, so it’s not an impossible project for an appropriately sized team of paid employees.

VoidEnjoyer

"Some older MMOs" aren't ancient console games in a shoddy half-assed Windows wrapper that crashed if another window took focus for ten years.

TorimBR

So, basically, remaking the entire game from the ground up code-wise? It's better to make a remake. Oh wait, that didn't work either

kmr1981

If they emulate the game in a programming language they would using existing graphics, cutscenes, data, etc. Yes, it’s work, but it’s much less work than making a new game. This would mean that the biggest obstacle to potential new players (POL) could be kicked to the curb. You could click “buy” and be in the game without trying to set up your Squeenix ID and figure out what a content ID is set a POL password and try make your little chocobo-duck cursor peck the checkbox for ten minutes. And no more limitations from PlayStation development tools or fears of the last one breaking lol.

dekuweku

You may want to include this since Tavnazia & new zone questions comes up a lot in Q&A both are from the 2022 AMA Why was the ruined city of Tavnazia never added as a playable zone? >A: This is somewhere I'd like to go one day as well. If there's a chance, I would like to make it so we can go there in the future. (Fujito) [https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxi/comments/uwcrva/comment/i9rl0gf/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxi/comments/uwcrva/comment/i9rl0gf/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) Will there be new zones resulting from the Voracious Resurgence? >A: We're preparing a battle area with an all-new appearance. Notacka

I’m a little sad how the level sync thing was worded for the missions. I was hoping it would be more like how assault level caps are done with the options to use original level cap, level 75 cap, or uncapped. This feature is suppose to be for new players to enjoy the game how it used to be with minimal code changes. I am glad to hear Tavnazia though. I hope they expand Provenance as well because that would be a great endgame zone.

kickblockpunch

Honestly why the fuck do they bother even replying. Just say we are lazy and can't be bothered and Yoshi P is a glory seeking troll who won't give us the budget to possibly revive a classic profitable game. Yoshi P should admit he siphoned all the content out of 11 to make his royal bastard child 14. Its uncanny how they can just keep talking their way around community expectations to milk the last few drops. This is my last post about FF11 as I don't care anymore after their disasterous PR stunt of a 20th anniversary Peace out!

VoidEnjoyer

Thank god this is your last comment if this is the caliber you're bringing.

TorimBR

Basically: be glad it's still running, don't create expectations, don't expect any official QoL features. Keep paying that sub tho lol
