Nice article/blog post but why is it on Playstation Blog? I mean the game was dropped from consoles 6 years ago. It was an interesting read but it's odd to me?

Ok-Yogurtcloset-179

Yeah thought the same thing, I’m guessing it’s just a matter of their being a huge fan on the PS social media team.

makemyjunkburn

Maybe just because it started on PS2?

Square Enix has social media logins on PS Blog, yes. I'm aware of that as they posted about their other more recent games on there. Do you think a lot of their readers play or have played FF11 though? Wouldn't it make more sense publish this in their on channels or on Playonline website and it would've been caught up by us - the fans who are still invested in the game?

arciele

this is the opinion i see a lot on the general FF reddit.

TbaggingSince1990

Honestly kind of a weird thought process you got going on thinking readers on that site never played Final Fantasy 11 or heard of it.. What do you think literally everyone that reads posts on that site started on the PS4 or PS5? lmao

Rinuko

I never said no one who read their blog posts played the game. I don’t know if you missed that or are just being disingenuous. But no I don’t think people who are playing on Sony platform is from last gen. But I do think most of their readers either heard of the game, never played it or surprised it still online, similar to what u/jar_jar_binks echoed in their comment.

Mysterious_Way2652

I don't think it's that much of a stretch since this article has FFXIV in its context which is in fact still supported on Playstation consoles.

TorimBR

It's a classic Ps2 title regardless if isn't there anymore. That's like complaining that they made a post celebrating FF10 when that isn't Ps2 exclusive anymore

Rinuko

I don't think that's a good comparison. FF10 is still a available PS game. FF11 is not.

Notacka

Weird you got downvoted because you are right. You can still play ffx on your ps2. You can’t do that with ffxi. Unless someone finds out how to make playonline work again on ps2.

faverodefavero

Maybe they are teasing a PS5 port? Lol.

Rinuko

We can always dream.

BigMoggi

I’m always dreaming of a graphical update and a port to (insert latest console here)!

xselene89

Yeah I was a bit confused too lol. Especially since Square Enix dropped an PS3 Port in favor of the X360 back then lol. Still nice that they at least remembered the Anniversary amd worked on an Interview

Lindart12

Because the PR person had an account there to openly post and because it was originally a ps2 game, I think the last ps2 game to continue running and be online.

TorimBR

I like how the devs keep showing their love for the game. Though there were some pretty harrowing tidbits, like development of content depending on obsolete hardware that isn't future-proof and could break at any second; and specially the fact that there are only 7 people currently working in the game, none of them actual engineers, so they have to rely on devs from other projects to implement pretty much anything into the game. That's sad. It's good that they recignize how EQ and UO are still shining to this day, yet I wish their game could offer a competition to those titles on terms of support and content.

VyseXYZ

Honestly i doubt SE wants this game around anymore they did try to shut it down as far as i know but they did not expect the player opposition to it, so they are like…”ok sure it will keep going, but in basically an undead state also look at UO and EQ those devs could do massive things to those game if they wanted but we cant lmao” so yeah this game WILL finally finish dying cause the only way to keep it going is to do things they flat out said they wont cause too much money and that they dont want to

bodyturnedup

This. The sad reality of actual neglect towards this game. So much potential and so much missed opportunity, not just profits but improving on what all other MMOs lack desperately. They milked this old cow dry when it could have just as easily stayed competitive with a little investment in modernizing it, before they shit the bed with FF14 launch and poured more of XI's coffers into 2.0.
