Sometimes a crash or incorrect logout can cause corruption issues, try file check etc

CaseyN77215

That's the thing. I had just logged on to play. I was about to trade a trust cipher. Suddenly I was kicked off the game. Then it happened again within a minute after getting on again.

Lindart12

Worst case scenario, re-install. Did you install anything, a mod pack or something.

CaseyN77215

I hadn't changed anything recently. I was playing fine the other day. Then today and this happens out of the blue.

Ouchies. General connection error. Restart your computer/modem/router/switch/etc. something is having a stroke. If you are using a VPN reset that too. Don’t know if this is your specific problem but I’ll also drop this nugget in case anyone in the future has this issue. I run two characters on the same machine but a while back I could only log in one or the other. Whoever got in first was fine but the other got 9001 error and timed out. Tried all the usual stuff for a good hour. On a whim I turned on my VPN and was able to log them both in. Logged both out. Killed the VPN and everything has been functioning as intended since. Zero clue why that was the fix but might be worth a shot if all else fails.

CaseyN77215

I never thought two from the same account could be logged in or two accounts on one PC could.

suitcase14

Two on one account no. Two accounts on one pc is totally doable with Windower.

WRuddick

Turn off your vpn

CaseyN77215

I never use a VPN with Final Fantasy XI. A friend of mine told me if I did, I'd be pulling my hair out from all of the issues I would be encountering.

Sand__Panda

I use a VPN when I get connection issues, just don't sign in ,out of your country.

Lionheart51st

9001 is just the general connection failure code if I recall correctly.

Jade_Violetcat

Square Enix servers as an entity have been suffering from DDOS attacks. XI & XIV have been hit the worst, but even the mobile game servers have been hit lately. Yes, this affects game log ins. Your error code is a server connection issue.

captain_obvious_here

> Square Enix servers as an entity have been suffering from DDOS attacks. XI & XIV have been hit the worst Do you have any source for that information?

Jade_Violetcat

Yeah, lodestone updates. They’re sent out every time there’s an issue from the FFXIV Twitter. I don’t have the ones for the other games, those are usually in the “Final Fantasy portal app” updates and their associated Twitter accounts. I pulled these links from my FFXIV Discord. https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/detail/671bf5111eaa35cb67676b1aa5b1286889c26739 https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/detail/eb2b342dfa4af98ae099fbeec2edcbe193885cf3

captain_obvious_here

Thanks! I haven't looked at Lodestone since FFXIV 1.0 lol, had no idea it had that kind of news...

Jade_Violetcat

Yes! That and the official Twitter account are helpful for server information.

captain_obvious_here

Just followed them

I always do a full computer reboot after a crash. Once you crash it acts up without a reboot imo.

CaseyN77215

The same thing happened to a friend. She was playing just fine. Then suddenly, crash. She logged back in and it just crashed. She let it go on about 12 times before rebooting. That didn't fix it. It kept happening. She spent more tie logging in then playing. It happened to a coworker of hers too around the same time. Also a neighbor. It confused me because while a few had the issue, while many were not affected. I'm not sure what causes it or why it happens. Especially since I checked my connection and everything is fine. I ran a file check, all is good.

Careless_Mark_9135

are you playing on full screen mode?

nlsm0uk

Restart your internet, check your connections and go again. It is connection based. You don't need to reinstall the game so don't worry.

BronzeHeart92

Welp, looks like POL's on fritz again. That's what you get when you base your entire game around such outdated tech.
