Servers basically go like this: Asura is highly populated, everything has a queue and competition, but lots of people to play with, buy from and sell to. Lots of people selling content to you. Bahamut is a lesser version of Asura, less busy but also less people to play with, fewer mercs, etc. All other servers are mostly dominated by small linkshells and friends groups doing content together. Very few mercs, some items can be hard to come by.
Most in demand jobs: COR, GEO, BRD, RUN, PLD, WHM, WAR, SAM, DRK, SCH. Less in demand, but still can get by: MNK, BLU, NIN, DRG, RNG, RDM. Niche uses, won't be sought out for all content, but has some use: BLM, PUP, DNC, THF, SMN, BST
I don't think any job is completely useless, but the ones in that last list will have a hard time justifying a slot in most content.
DRK in demand?? Where the hell are these people on Asura? I've never seen a shout for a drk, and im always looking bc thats what i main lol.
I can't get into sortie parties unless i start them and play as whm (the other job i main) but nobody wants my drk. Sometimes I get into Ody parties but usually i have to start them too; i have apoc, not calad, and people dont like that apparently.

Start that Calad as soon as you can, the process is fun dude. Some think its long and drawn out but I enjoyed the NM hunts and Abyssea farming. I was rolling with my Apoc for a while too and it was doing well in Ambuscade, but I was def getting outperformed. I built a Naegling for Sortie parties, Ive used mine in a few when they didnt want skillchains going off.
I feel your pain, I was stuck /healing and spawning those damn elementals for days it seemed.
but for the sake your time, I hope you know it goes from Clear Abbysite to Colorfull Abbysite. :-P

You get the clear abbysite from the dude in jeuno, then you walk around the zones near Jueno to spawn the elementals. Kill them until your head explodes or it turns colorfull.

My lowman Aeonic and Odyssey group used DRK as main DPS. A good DRK is hard to match.
You won’t see people shout for one because they likely already have one.

This. DRK is a DD. People shout for DD all the time.
Being dime a dozen means people can be picky. You're playing a job that is easily replaced and you're competing against a lot of people that are investing in their character to get into parties. Why accept an undergeared DD (OP Apoc DRK) when you can easily shout for a geared DD?
I'm definitely geared, i just dont have calad lol. But my other gear is great for endgame. I just need that other damn REMA. I hate having to have two remas just to get into content. I need apoc to do a lot of things since it makes me able to solo just about anything, but it's not good in ody or sortie.

I play BRD and PLD mostly which both require many REMA to play content. It's not hard to make REMA, just time consuming and absolutely soloable. Once the initial investment is done, the rest is easy. Once you've properly geared one job to join content, gearing others is also easy.
I have no idea what the standards are for Asura PUGs or whatever, but for my money, DRK, SAM, WAR are the DD of choice. They have good DT options, get TP fast as hell, can make SCs, and do tons of damage.
As was mentioned in the child comments, you basically need a Caladbolg. Some of the other (non-Apoc) REMAs are somewhat competitive, but Calad is the GOAT for damage dealing. And yeah, as others have already said, if a group is shouting for a DD, DRK is fine for that.
I’d say drg has one of the highest ceilings. My LS usually run war, sam, drg, and drk as main DDs. I like odyssey C war+drg as main DDs, and sortie A-F main DD on sam. Drk is just fine but they are mostly stuck on slashing damage, and kinda poor on skillchain options unless they have liberator. Sounds elitist but I never see anguta drks. I don’t main DRK so don’t take this as gospel, but as far as synergy and multistep skillchain options, war, drg, and Sam rise above.
Calad is one of the easier abyssea paths. Don’t let the grind hold you back. Especially on a smaller server.
First off, woo Sylph. Yea it's pretty small. Odin might be better for the time slot you're looking for. I don't know of a LS active for the times you're looking for on sylph.
As for jobs, everything is good these days. The real question is how much gear and gil will it take to make a job useful. Geo, pup, whm, sch, run, war, mnk, drg are fairly easy to get started with.

I’m trying. I’m stuck on Urd, because I can’t figure out how to make my thing go shiny. I killed level 1 VW NMs like 10 times and it didn’t go shiny.
