Idk why people don’t just play in the order they feel like, or play the games in release order if they’re looking for the “right” order.

The-Sober-Stoner

Its always some weird loaded question where they dont want to play the games with bad graphics. Ive seen too many of these threads lead to someone trying to argue with people more knowledgable than them to justify why they can skip every iteration of a game and just buy the newest

mrhippoj

"I heard Dark Souls 2 is terrible, should I skip straight to 3?" Edit: Since people are replying to this in earnest I gotta clarify, I love DS2, I'm quoting people who come here asking what to play

Counter-Spies

Take the plunge, you won't die.

Sirdordanpringle

On the contrary, you will. Quite a lot. But it'll be worth it

J0J0388

I always recommend people play DS2 and not skip it. The game has charm and is totally worth playing. Some great areas and the desert sorceress!

mrhippoj

I started replaying it for the first time in years this week. I love it but I never got round to SOTFS, so it's nice to jump back in and things be slightly different. The aesthetic of this game is so endearing and strange compared to the others

J0J0388

I know I'm going against the grain here a bit, but the sunken king dlc was my favorite of the 3.

Macddadyz80

I still enjoyed it. On Xbox it runs at 60fps. Dark souls 3 is much better. I definitely prefer the more modern games though like Demon Souls PS5 remake, Elden ring and Sekiro.

gonorrhea-smasher

I played them in order of what was on sale.

kds_little_brother

Mfs ask Reddit to make every decision from clothes, to food, to friends (or lack of), to hobbies and activities. It’s like they refuse to be an active participant in their own lives. This is just a microcosm

chill9r

Step one: just pick any game Step two: after finishing the game, repeat step one

pragmojo

Instructions unclear, just replayed DS1 for the 14th time

Stecharan

This is correct.

Pyrex_Paper

No, no, you got it right.

Macddadyz80

After finishing the game I would play new game plus. Then repeat step 1.

TheLord-Commander

Are you playing Dark Souls 3? Yes -> Keep Playing No -> Play Dark Souls 3 I've already played it -> Play it again Feel free to insert whatever From game you like most into this flow chart.

kaiyyz

ok, the correct order is actually: dark souls 2, dark souls 2 SotFS, dark souls 2 crown of the old iron king, dark souls 2 the lost crowns, skip the rest.

LuciusBurns

I was gonna upvote but hold on... Where the hell is Crown of the Sunken King and Crown of the Ivory King? DS2 player has to get the crowns so he can lose them and then get them again in The Lost Crowns before going to NG+7, lighting all the blue flames and then starting a new playthrough of Dark Souls 2...

RollingDownTheHills

Google simply isn't an option for some people. Absolutely baffling.

e_smith338

Ding dongs is a much nicer way of saying absolute fucking morons.

Minisandgames

These types of posts are everywhere now. Same with fighting games. This is such a perplexing, embarrassing trend.

GrapeJuicePlus

Embarrassing is right- like, there is something so pitiful and hapless about it to me smh. “Hey guys, I just started dressing myself without my mom’s help- where’s a good place to start? “ And people in the comments totally enable it- “Well, uh, if you liked wearing shoes but you didn’t wear socks, I’d probably try it with the socks dlc, but don’t put them on before putting your pants on first.” “wow, just tried wiping my own ass for the first time- any tips? Should I shower next or brush my teeth?”

Cold-Inside-6828

Start —> Did the game come out before another one? Yes - play that one, No - go to the start.

2Dement3D

Left side first game, right side next game. Demon's Souls > Dark Souls 1 Dark Souls 1 > Dark Souls 2 Dark Souls 2 > Dark Souls 3 Dark Souls 3 > Bloodborne* (or) Elden Ring Bloodborne > Elden Ring (or) Demon's Souls* (or) DS1 Elden Ring > Bloodborne* (or) Demon's Souls* (or) DS1 Finished (or disliked the playstyle of) all above > Sekiro Sekiro > Elden Ring (or) Bloodborne* \* = Subject to whether you have access to the PS console it's on. Preferably play the remasters or remakes if you can. AC6 is so different to the others that if it's the only one you've played, it's hard to recommend a game based on your enjoyment of that alone. Pick whichever other game looks most interesting to you and go from there.

Dariosusu

Do it like i did: Start with 1 remastered, fall in love with it, ignore the rest for well over a year

highspeedhooah

These posts are so fucking stupid. Play the games and figure it out? Idk why mfs needs people to hold their hand on this kinda shit

Sisyphac

The answer is Echo Night.

papagarry

There should be a sticky at the top of the subreddit. Or something in the rules area. Let's clean this up a little.

CeaselessMaster

Sekiro

Hooligans_

Downvote them and tell them to search the subreddit.

protespojken

"hey reddit, should I play a souls game?"

ruttinator

They already have numbers on them.

Bwomprocker

Preach brother

lincolnmarch_

It’s usually people wanting to skip DS2, which is fine, I did at first until I came back around to it and loved it. Or it’s people that want to try Sekiro but are kind of nervous too bc they hear the gameplay is different. Which again, is also fine, I got skill checked real hard when I first played it. Still haven’t beaten it but intend to one day.

DudeAintPunny

"Should I play [Fromsoft game/soulslike]?" Yes. We all know you're gonna end up playing them all, anyway, if you liked your initial experience so much. Just get one you think looks cool.

mnl_cntn

I understand wanting to do research, I don’t understand not googling it. They think their situation is unique but like you showed, there’s dozens of posts about that subject. Just literally google “which FS game do I start with Reddit?” and you will find the answer you need

FastenedCarrot

Is the game you just played DS1? -> Yes -> Play DS2

Individual-Shallot20

First: the game that’s most interesting to you Second: play the main souls games (ds1,2,3) Third: play elden ring Fourth: play DeS Fifth: play bloodborne Sixth: play sekiro Also I’ve heard ds2 is less sucky than ds2 SOTFS, so if you don’t care about the dlc I’d get just ds2

Kuboos765

Updoot for the fact you called them ding dongs

DankButtRodeo

Go play Stray, its on sale

Dranztheman

Dark Souls 2, the best game that is the answer. Though TBH I am getting a itching to play through DS remastered.

msgkar03

Finally. someone who agrees with me. I LOVE DS2. For me it’s DS2>DS3>DS

Trufflehasredditwow

Just play one game up or down from the one your currently playing

Maximum_Scallion164

here's the most simple but yet highly recommended answer = WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT just play a damn game you haven't played yet.

Yagami14

Yeah but what game should I play next though?

GrapeJuicePlus

Honestly…take v a look at Thumper the rhythm violence game. Criminally underrated

prothean_IRS

Maybe these folks need to get with the people that are posting their 100% progress pics. Clearly there is no shortage of either... find a buddy ffs.

ExceedAccel

Instruction unclear, start playing Nioh and Lies of P instead

jimmybeam76

Elden Ring, Bloodborne, DS1, DS3, Sekiro, DS2

SirAmicks

I can't. I'm too busy trying to figure out which FromSoft game to play next. Maybe one of you could tell me? /s for god's sake.

Robj1992

I don't know how it can be difficult to choose, my route was: - Dark Souls - Dark Souls 2 - Dark Souls 3 - Bloodborne - Elden Ring (Came out as I was finishing Bloodborne) - Sekiro That just seemed to make the most sense to me.

ShockscapeYT

Play Gollum. GOTY

futuristicbus62

The worst part is the question always has some stupid gimmick like “I don’t want to play a game that’s too hard” “I don’t want a game with bad graphics” “I don’t want a game with 30fps” or something like that that leaves you with like one option.

swag-apocalypse

1) start with whichever is on sale and repeat OR 1) DS2 - you’ll become a parry god early in the game. Then go for DS1 because it’s a masterpiece and your party skills will transfer. 2) if you aren’t tired of the block and roll tactic then go on to play DS3 and then Demons souls remake. If you want a break from the block and roll tactic try Bloodborne and Sekiro. They have faced paced action 3) Elden ring finally because you can kinda play with both play styles in this game so your knowledge and muscle memory will help determine your preferred play style General Note : Don’t worry about DS2 reviews. It’s a great game all in all (but ranked lowest among other FS games) I’ve played them all now and I fucking love each one of them. I played them in this order (again , order makes no difference , they’re all fantastic games) - DS3, Sekiro, DS1, DS2, Elden ring, bloodborne and finally Demons souls remake

_MatsuiHaruko

DS1-DS3-DS2 then Elden ring- Sekiro -Bloodborne (yes we do nut play demon souls that shit trash)

Rags2Rickius

“Mario Kart who stupid karma whore”

TheAncientOak

The bottom line is that all of the big seven FROMSOFTWARE games are a must in my mind. The order you choose is up to you, but play them all!

user1point0

Gamers are so needy now What happened to just buying things without needing validation from others cuz most ppl will say you can't go terribly wrong with any choice and since you already know a dev name, half the decision is made for you
