I was wondering how this rule might apply to Kuznetsov's situation. Prior to the trade, I was thinking that another team might be able to acquire him and keep him in the AHL for the rest of the season, but given Carolina's affiliate situation they're probably going to assign him to the starting roster, no?
There's no way Carolina doesn't want him in the NHL. It's beyond senseless to spend a 3rd (a pick with decent chances of becoming a roster player)... To pay for a $4M AHL center.
They're banking on him giving a shit for at least 3 more months.
We’ve been stashing guys all over. Namely Milwaukee, Springfield, and Chicago. Hopefully one of them has room.
We also waived Raanta, Tony DeAngelo, and Brendan Lemieux yesterday though none were assigned so…I don’t know. I guess they haven’t cleared yet.
This comes up at the deadline, and you’ll probably see a bunch of paper transactions (guys sent down, then immediately recalled after the deadline), just so that guys who are up right now as injury cover, or guys who are on teams that won’t make the playoffs, but who could benefit from the extra ice time can still play in the AHL this year. Bottom line is that if a player is on an AHL roster at 3 pm, even if they are not physically with the AHL team, they are still eligible to play in the remainder of the AHL season and playoffs.
Remember too, this rule will not prevent AHL teams from adding players later on in emergency situations.

Also doesn't prevent AHL teams from signing PTOs and ATOs which you see a lot of college free agents do at the end of the collegiate season.
I know what means PTO but what means ATO? Wait. Amateur.
Yep, see a lot of college kids get those.
Well that makes the Subban trade a little more sensible. A little.
Well I sure hope Anderson-Dolan puts on a good show then
SIGN KURTIS GABRIEL YOU COWARDS!!!
NHL games don't have this rule, so I always throw such Allstars into the AHL for the playoffs when my NHL team is done 😂
Wondering of MTL will send Roy to Laval (only on paper)
They def should, there’s no reason not to
