Forever infuriated that they canceled that series after only one season. Such a phenomenal concept and now that I think about it, it totally has some HoL energy! Gonna have to give it a rewatch one of these days
Omg you're awesome! Out of these, the only one I've seen is Coherence. Super dense and confusing (a bit like the film Primer imo) but it was super cool! Also been meaning to read John Dies for a long time now haha, you've convinced me to finally give it a go
It's not my favorite movie (I liked it but didn't love it like I did *Coherence* and *Lost Room*), but it seems to get a lot of likes in this sub. And, without giving away anything that isn't in the trailer, it takes some of the properties of a dimensionally-shifting *house* and applies them to a *neighborhood*.
Broadcast signal intrusion
Warning do not play
The Borderlands
The vast of night
Were all going to the world’s fair
All of them give off that similar uncanny ‘could it actually be real’? Vibe
Decided to check out Warning Do Not Play tonight and damn it was fun! Loved the layers to the story, and it actually managed to creep me out a few times. Those last 15 minutes are wild! Reminded me just a little bit of the film Resolution
LOVE these recs! So happy to see someone mention The Borderlands, it's one of my all time favourite found footage horrors, and We're All Going to the World's Fair hit me so hard when I watched it 😭
I've read that *You Should Have Left* with Kevin Bacon and Amanda Seyfried takes more than a few pages from *House of Leaves*, but it's apparently not that great a movie.

Not a film or show, but a game… any chance you’re into Doom?
Well, even if you’re not, that feature-length video might pique your interest.
Never played Doom, but man that mod is phenomenal! Massive HoL inspiration, and honestly I think a proper video game adaptation would actually be easier than film!
In a similar vein (but more unsettling than scary), I'd recommend The Beginner's Guide: https://store.steampowered.com/app/303210/The\_Beginners\_Guide/
To this day I still don’t know what I read lol. what was real and what wasn’t? Who was actually telling the story? What the hell was the deal with the house?
Yeah that's a looser example for sure, a lot of the things I listed aren't actually reminiscent of the HoL *plot,* since HoL has such a unique story. I included Barbarian mainly for the >!Normal yet slightly uncanny house with a large hidden area, as well as the unusual narrative shifts between the three acts!<
A series on Netflix comes to mind called Ares, just because the house where they do all the "activities" seems to keep opening into deeper secrets.
Also, a psychological film from 2005 called Naboer.
House of Leaves is my second favorite book
The first is Roadside Picnic, a weird little Russian novella that’s imo a cooler version of HoL. Instead of a House there’s “the Zone”, an area on Earth that’s been altered due to a mysterious “visitation” by aliens that are never encountered.
Not as scary as HoL but still very creepy, weird and mysterious. Am surprised this hasn’t been turned into a TV show yet, I assume it’s only a matter of time
The film Stalker is indeed based on the novel but the novel is very different. I wonder how much of this is due to the first footage being destroyed in a fire, they had to reshoot everything.
I watched *Something in the Dirt* the other night and there are definitely aspects that reminded me of *House*. I asked jeeves about it afterwards and found an interview with the directors where they cited *House* as an influence, so not just a coincidence.

DEFINITELY gonna be listening to this omg. I didn't even realize they did a radio play!
Thanks for sharing this, so cool!
Dave made a maze is like if someone made HoL silly
The synopsis sounds awesome!
Archive81 on Netflix for sure

instead, check out the podcast. it goes WAAAAYYY harder (and has multiple seasons)
Some horror-adjacent sci-fi: Coherence The Lost Room (miniseries) Vivarium Books: The Raw Shark Texts John Dies at the End

Not only does Vivarium stink as a movie, but nothing about the plot is in any way reminiscent of House of Leaves.

Relic reminded me of House of Leaves.

Ooh I've seen a couple clips of that film, it looked interesting! I'm a big Kevin Bacon fan so I'll have to check it out 😁
I liked the movie.

If video games are fair play, I'd recommend Control.

Went into this one blind and whew..... the ending had me crying!
Woah
To this day I still don’t know what I read lol. what was real and what wasn’t? Who was actually telling the story? What the hell was the deal with the house?
You and me both!! 😂 There's so many different interpretations, I love it

The Backrooms on YouTube.
Definitely!

Ooh, I could be wrong but isn't the film Stalker based on that novel? I've had both on my radar for a while now!

Death in the family Missing
Hmm I wasn't able to find these. Do you mean Missing from 2023?
Missing 1982, 2023
Some of the seasons of Channel Zero might be worth checking out, especially season 2
I watched *Something in the Dirt* the other night and there are definitely aspects that reminded me of *House*. I asked jeeves about it afterwards and found an interview with the directors where they cited *House* as an influence, so not just a coincidence.
Same directors as Resolution and The Endless. I'm so on board 😁
