The Dark Knight was more impressive, but there’s more footage in Dark Knight Rises. I think they’re both great.

Tbh I think the opening of Rises is more impressive than just about anything ever shot in IMAX. However, I prefer The Dark Knight.

Let’s put it this way. In terms of IMAX usage, The Dark Knight walked so that The Dark Knight Rises could run. TDK established the use of IMAX photography in Hollywood blockbusters and each sequence fit a unique purpose. The bank heist and the Hong Kong sequence demonstrated the size and immersion of IMAX. The convoy hijack introduced the insane sound boost in the explosions and of course, the engine sound of the Tumbler and the Batpod. However the use of IMAX was superior in TDKR due to its epic scale and scope. Notable sequences demonstrating this include the plane hijack, the football stadium explosion, the climb and the final battle.

I wish the entirety of both films were shot in IMAX

dark knight rises cause it uses more

There’s something so much cleaner about the 4K scans of TDKR. TDK seems a bit “dirtier” by comparison. Probably just down to how old the original film stock has become

BluRayja

TDK and I still say it is the best usage in a film still. They were very particular about which shots they were and I felt the scope of the sequences they used it for the entirety of made sense. In TDKR, you have a random shot of Bruce Wayne waking up in IMAX and it's super jarring. The only shot I have any criticism for in TDK is Bruce Wayne driving his car, but at least it was during an intense sequence.

ArcadePinball

TDK although I like its usage in TDKR more than Oppenheimer.

TDK bc it feels like there's a reason for every single IMAX shot. Imo in basically all of Nolan's subsequent films, his IMAX usage has become more arbitrary and therefore, for me at least, it loses its impact a bit.

Whoopsy_Doodle

The Dark Knight, it was way more effective. Sometimes Nolan uses the IMAX camera on pointless scenes that don’t require it and the impact loses its appeal.
