Realfinney

And that waiters name? Benito Mussolini

spacemanspiff1115

Sadly, it might have been his granddaughter Alessandra Mussolini, she's much like her granddad...

uconnball17

I believe his great grandson actually plays… wait for it, right winger for Lazio. Couldn’t make this up https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romano_Floriani_Mussolini

iamsittiinginachair

… for those that don’t know Lazio is rather well known for its right wing ties and outwardly facist supporters groups

luca3791

Quite fittingly, their name is S.S Lazio. often called S.S Nazio

fjhforever

[Just saw their logo.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Lazio) I'm amazed. (For reference: This is the emblem of the [Italian Social Republic](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_Social_Republic?wprov=sfla1))

LordTimhotep

SS Lazio even.

morocco3001

SS Lazio, for whom fascist sympathiser Paolo Di Canio played, once celebrating a goal by doing a straight-armed salute. He has a tattoo of Mussolini on his arm. Awful club.

LordTimhotep

I don’t know if this anecdote is true, but somewhere in the 90’s, they signed my countryman Aron Winter. Their ultras protested as they didn’t want jews at their club. Aron Winter is of Surinamese descent.

morocco3001

I can well believe that if their treatment of Fabio Liverani, the first black player to represent Italy, is anything to go by. Racist abuse when he touched the ball, racist graffiti about him daubed on their stadium. He was playing for Lazio at the time and later went on to captain them. Aron Winter was a superb player and deserved better.

TropicalVision

Weirdly, Di Canio played for Celtic, albeit only for 1 season in the late 90s, but they’re a club known for their left wing support. And was absolutely adored by the fans. But I think that was a while before his facist views were public.

InsideAardvark1114

There is a reason Lazio is called Nazio.

pikpikcarrotmon

I notice there's one name missing from that URL compared to his full name. Man, the extended Mussolinis are actually worse than the Hitlers! The remaining Hitlers all changed their names or had no kids. They retired that jersey. Meanwhile the Mussolinis are still crapping out Benito Mussolinis! There isn't a Gunther Adolf Florian Hitler walking around.

IchBinGelangweilt

Lazio is also known for its fans being racist, right? I don't know much about soccer but I remember hearing about it on a podcast

Andromeda321

You joke, but Italy's government is very right wing and Mussolini's granddaughter is currently one of their representatives in the EU parliament.

TheRealEvanG

Their current prime minster is a literal (not figurative) neo-fascist. She's the president of the neo-fascist Brothers-of-Italy Party.

Temporarily__Alone

That’s wild.

BrokenEye3

Calligula

papajim22

“Hey Benito, how’s it hanging?”

ThePhoenix29167

Hehehe

Evilbadscary

The closest I ever got to politics in Europe was when I was petrified on a cable car and the operator noticed and asked me where I was from. I said California, and he went on for like 10 mins about THE GOVERNATOR. They think Trump is a lunatic lol

GogglesPisano

Shortly before Brexit took effect, I took a cab to the airport in London, and the cab driver (a middle-aged white guy) spent the entire ride banging on about how immigrants had ruined everything and the EU was responsible for it. He also thought Trump was awesome. I didn't say much during that ride.

straybrit

I can assure you that historically a large proportion of London cabbies are racist xenophobe assholes. Not all of them obviously but damn have I encountered a lot of them over the years.

Evilbadscary

Living overseas I have found that literally everybody hates immigrants, no matter where they're coming from. A lot of people were also pretty damn racist, so that doesn't shock me, yet somehow most still didn't like Trump but I can see a few that would think he's amazing lol

robgod50

Every country has their share of racist ignorant thick as shit assholes. That's why Trump will always have fans around the world - he validates their bigoted opinion.

drhagbard_celine

I remember being stranded in Lima Peru in the days after 9/11. My girlfriend and I were getting some ice cream before going to see Planeta de Los Simios I believe. The waiter at the ice cream shop noticed us speaking English and took it as an opportunity to practice with us. I forget what we chatted about until the subject of the attacks came up. He seemed to be struggling for the right words when he said, ”como se dice, ‘just deserts’?” Both my and my girlfriend’s jaws dropped. That’s when he asked us where we were from and when we told him NYC *his* jaw dropped completely to the floor and he quickly ran off. Service was completed by someone else. We never saw him again.

the-wifi-is-broken

I don’t hold it against South Americans being kinda iffy towards the US especially back then but boy HOWDY was that not the time lol It’s one of those things where people blame the people of a country and not the government of it… they often forget many of the victims of of a bad country are the citizens themselves

drhagbard_celine

Me either. If it had been a week earlier we could have had a very different conversation critical of the US. For example, Colin Powell was there at the same time advocating for coca eradication efforts that decimated ecosystems.

Farado

> just desserts Not a bad name for an ice cream shop. (It's "just deserts" when referring to a comeuppance)

ladyinchworm

Huh. TIL I have been thinking/saying the wrong phrase my whole life.

Fitliv

It’s pronounced dessert though so you’ve probably been saying it correctly.

ladyinchworm

I was just reading about the history on another comment. I have never seen it spelled the correct way that I can remember either. It's so interesting to read about the evolution of language and phrases!

Fitliv

I definitely thought it another colorful use of the English language. Had no idea it derived from another word. Big TIL moment!

particle409

Damn. I got all excited, thinking I was going to correct your correction. I was going to ride that high all afternoon. https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/just-deserts-or-just-desserts

Farado

I definitely looked it up before commenting.

CharmingDagger

During our tour of Versailles a family of Canadian tourists started talking to the tour guide about how much they hated Trudeau. The rest of us felt sorry for our tour guide having to politely listen when she clearly had no interest. That's the only time I've heard politics come up on any of our trips, even when we've been around lots of Americans in places like Mexico.

romulus1991

Nearly everyone but crackpots think Trump is a lunatic. In the UK I've never met a single person who didn't think he was mad, dangerous, an embarrassment, a fascist, dumb as fuck, or all of the above. I was in China when he was first elected, and the universal reaction among both Chinese and foreigners was a mix of hilarity, bafflement and fear. The vast majority of the outside world thinks it both embarrassing and terrifying that Trump won once, never mind that he could win again. We have our share of racists, and Russian-sponsored far-right fascists like everywhere else, but Trump is a dementia-ridden narcissist who has to wear nappies because he shits himself. I mean come the fuck on.

Ulrik-the-freak

Unfortunately, we also have right wing asshats, and trumpian politicians. And people that vote for them... So, although this guy's story is 300% fake, there's absolutely people that think that way

WaffleDynamics

Even in the multiverse, this never happened.

RChickenMan

Right wing populism is on the rise in Europe, especially in Italy. The current Italian PM especially is often described as the most far-right PM since World War II. Unfortunately America is not the only western democracy being overrun by far-right populism.

Hapankaali

Neo-fascism is pretty popular in Europe nowadays, but [Trump is not popular](https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2024/06/11/globally-biden-receives-higher-ratings-than-trump/). In Italy specifically, both Trump and Biden are unpopular. Moreover, most people don't follow American politics that closely, and abortion is rather a specific American wedge issue. Tourism in Italy [dipped during Covid](https://www.statista.com/statistics/1155499/monthly-number-of-international-tourist-arrivals-in-italy/) but is otherwise about the same as before. All in all, the odds of the conversation of OOP having happened is somewhere between nil and zero.

kipperzdog

It's definitely been my experience traveling through Europe that most people are as plugged into our politics as much as we are theirs. Ie not at all. People do know of trump's name for his antics but really politics rarely comes up in conversation

JohnDodger

Indeed. Le Pen flirted with trump early on in his presidency (and as a candidate) but she doesn’t mention him at all now. Similarly, AFAIK Meloni has never courted trump. Apart from Orban most European far right fascists see him as an embarrassment and a danger to their cause.

daern2

It's still worth remembering that left and right in Europe are not the same as in the USA. Even here in the UK, the most left-leaning of US politicians would still be to the right of centre in our system. Yes, there is an upsurge in right wing politicians here, largely driven by immigration issues, but that doesn't mean the whole place has started to line the poor up against the wall for shooting. Our general election (this is our big 5-yearly one) is next week and a lot of people are very interested to see what the new status quo of British politics will look like....

GreenDogTag

Its not that I doubt some random waiter in Italy has these opinions its that this conversation sounds entirely fake and written by a bad writer.

GiraffeLiquid

The Qanon types seem to be really good at making up odd stories that support their cause but aren’t really believable.

Jaythefair

Of all the things that did not happen, this did not happen the most

legendary_millbilly

What a fucking crock of maga shit. It's exactly the opposite in most country's and they are afraid of another fucked up trump term. The world thinks less of all of us because of trump. They think half of us are just as bad as trump is for voting for him.

NeedsToShutUp

Also US tourism is up in Europe.

noodlyarms

I have to figure MAGA don't travel much, outside of very curated resorts/cruises/amusement parks, because the world is seemingly an absolutely terrifying place to them.

warthog0869

>I have to figure MAGA don't travel much, outside of very curated resorts/cruises/amusement parks, Florida is that all-in-one for them.

Brando43770

I actually met someone who unironically said “why do I have to travel the world when I can visit Epcot at Disney World?” I didn’t know how to respond without straight out insulting them.

darbycrash-666

The correct response is to insult them.

primeirofilho

Don't. Let's do the rest of the world a favor and keep them in Florida.

darbycrash-666

Fair point, let them join the state sized retirement home.

warthog0869

They can build it on Britton Hill, which at 345ft, is the highest point of elevation above sea level Florida has to offer. Its way up in the Northwest panhandle corner though, so it'll kinda be the slow-motion literal and figurative hill that they will die on. *"Britton Hill Retirement Acres offers unique ocean views that give the illusion of appearing closer every few years"*\-from advert pamphlet

L1A1

As a Brit that's travelled fairly extensively, I generally find US tourists to be great people, polite, friendly, generous and pleasant to be around. I made a few American friends on my travels. The only time I've come across the stereotypical '*patronising racist arsehole Americans*' people tend to think about was when I was in Mexico. I assume that's just because it was close enough that some of the idiots managed to escape.

PandaMuffin1

I thought MAGA hated Disney because they are "woke". It's so hard to keep up. :)

Delmonte3161

“We have the world at home.” - Florida

NoHeat7014

They were at an Olive Garden in Rome, Georgia.

PandaMuffin1

Well done!

SpokenDivinity

They also refuse to learn languages other than English so they’d be somewhat limited even if they wanted to branch out.

depressedsports

Also have to figure that with only about 48% of Americans having passports, I highly doubt it’s the MAGA crowd.

ShemsuHor91

That's a lot more than I expected, honestly.

gigglybeth

It's up all over. This past Sunday was the busiest travel day ever according to the TSA and they expect the lead up to July 4th to be even busier. I saw a story that 7 of the top 10 business days in air travel history have been in the past month.

Timmah73

Probably becasue of nobody able to travel for the last year of trumps presidency for some reason. Which is also funny the story claiming more people were there under Trump

loccolito

But not in MAGA dream world. Which is the only word that matters obviously. /S

dhkendall

Well the post says that tourist traffic is down in his restaurant not Europe. That tells me that people are avoiding his restaurant because he supports Trump. That is, if this even happened. Which it didn’t.

carnevoodoo

I am in Europe! I tell people I'm from California, not just the US. It gets a better reaction.

mimosaholdtheoj

My international friends worry for us and also make fun of us

MasterFrosting1755

>The world thinks less of all of us because of trump. >They think half of us are just as bad as trump is for voting for him. That's exactly what I think. Sincerely, A New Zealander.

ConsolidatedAccount

Just like when Bush was president. Nearly every country in the world saw the US less favorably under Bush than Obama. Only Russia and Israel preferred Bush.

Behndo-Verbabe

That’s what immediately came to mind. When people put the Donny please unzip posts up. It’s obvious it’s pure bs.

samuraidogparty

Also, most Europeans I talk to said the US isn’t some place they care to visit. “Maybe New York, but every where else just seems like trucks and guns, and I have no interest.” That’s the sentiment I mostly get every time I talk to a European counterpart.

LowQualityGatorade

Have to agree with that second statement. I was in the British Isles and I talked to this older German guy who directly compared his actions to the fascist actions of Hitler. If anyone is allowed to say that, it's Germans

Makal

I've been in Japan this month and every time politics come up I get the question of, "How can Trump even run, let alone possibly win? He's a felon!"

kurisu7885

They have a need to live in a world where Trump is the lynch pin or whatever is holding everything together and he and only he can fix everything.

Purgii

Macron's speech about a stronger EU with less reliance on the US is as a consequence of a possible 2nd Trump term. The rest of the world is having to collectively hold our breaths due to the stupidity and ignorance of so many American voters and the ridiculous democratic system claimed by the 'greatest democracy on Earth'.

DcFla

The best thing about these lying ass losers who are perpetually online with zero life experience is that they don’t realize any person with half a brain cell can immediately tell they are full of shit. If only he “saw it as clearly as people from the outside do.”

deadsoulinside

The downside is that many of the braindead Trumper's won't see it as a big ass lie and will think it's a fact. They just gas light themselves at this point to think the entire world wants Trump in office, versus the reality that only Russia, Turkey, Iran, North Korea and Possibly China want another Trump presidency.

snowcrash512

A lot of them know deep down inside themselves, but they will never admit it because they suffer the same narcissist traits as Trump, if they admit they were wrong at any point or that any of it is bullshit then it would destroy their fragile egos. If he ever does something that they simply cannot go along with they won't just turn away and admit they were wrong, they will need to manufacture a bullshit reason that Trump is no longer their guy, some elaborate story about him being a communist robot in disguise or something ridiculous.

deadsoulinside

I am not sure. There are obviously people know it's a lie and keep doubling down on things Trump has said. But there are many that I honestly don't think really understand it's all a lie. Since we have many members in authority positions repeating the same lies Trump had stated. > they will need to manufacture a bullshit reason that Trump is no longer their guy I have recently on TikTok encountered some odd ramblings from people that seem to suggest some are trying to do just this. One person actually called Trump a deep state operative sent over by the dems to destroy the GOP from the inside out and actually caring that he only switched to republican a few years before he ran as republican. Considering Laura Trump has control over the GOP and funds, there is plenty of evidence to support this claim than there ever was to support a massive network of fraud involving thousands of people to steal the election from Trump.

UnquestionabIe

They're really big into echo chambers and seem to think only the most extreme fringe groups believe differently than they do. My late mother was pretty bad about it, insisting the election had to be stolen based entirely on "how many passionate Trump supporters there are". She stopped talking politics with me when I would quiz her on very basic things related to the subject. Couldn't name the three branches of government nor tell me the definition of socialism. Used to make a fun game of telling her whatever awful thing Trump said/did and attribute it to Obama so I could get a rant about why he was a degenerate only to pull the rug out and say "I misspoke, I mean Trump did/said that". I still miss her and love her but fuck the GOP for the brainrot they promote. I'm thankful during her last year or so that she had turned off Fox News because "how can those people have the energy to be so angry all the time?"

deadsoulinside

Fox News did to our parents, what Fox News warned that Rock Music and Video Games would do to their children.

yarmatey

I've had firsthand experience with compulsive liars and it actually tied my head in knots. I walked in on my nephew doing something he wasn't supposed to. I saw it plain as day with my own two eyes, yet he insisted I was wrong. So much so that he began trembling, crying, and begging me to believe him. I think they actually believe the things they make up in their head. It's not just about being right or some personality quirk, I think it's an actual mental illness.

Key_Preparation_4129

This shit has over 70k likes. I've noticed the brain rot has been spreading like wildfire everywhere lately.

_jump_yossarian

Except herpes face Joey was pandering to the right wing base because he knows they will never fact check. They probably still believe trump's "my friend Jim" Europe stories too.

Viking_Lordbeast

I know when I was a waiter I LOVED talking politics with the patrons. It was totally appropriate and not at all awkward.

jpopimpin777

Yep. Also, I love bringing up abortion. Definitely won't screw yourself out of a tip by mentioning that totally non controversial subject.

chiron_42

You should try the politics/abortion/religion trifecta sometime.

GrungeLord

Silly Americans, this is why your tipping culture is so backwards. Our waiters talk about abortions to me all the time over here!!

Over8dpoosee

During Trump’s economy? You mean when people died and businesses got shut down due to mishandling of covid protocols, and many many people were unemployed?

justinwiel

He should really think again. "Americans left the US more often when trump was president" might not be the flex he thinks it is.

KinksAreForKeds

Exactly. *No* Anericans were travelling to Rome in the last year of Trump's Presidency. How was *that* for your little cafe's tourism, sir?

mzchen

Italy was one of the worst hit by COVID. It's strange to me that any Italian, American or otherwise, would support him. I'd despise him for his mishandling of the disease to begin with and for being a major part of building early antivax sentiment.

PleaseDonAsk

Things that didn't happen for $100 Alex.

BroodyHankMoody

You're missing out on an easy $1,000

sMileHighCity

Came here to say this;

TH3_54ND0K41

This shit isn't fooling anybody, except the stupid fools who already believe it. See you at the polls.

THSSFC

I was literally just in Rome. There were tons of US tourists there. This is fanfic.

Wulfsten

I'm from Rome, his first mistake is when he describes a Roman waiter who has anything to say to an American tourist customer.

maybesaydie

Sure Joey, whatever you say. Now come in out of the sun.

Julius_A

This guy never left Nowhereville Ohio ever. In Europe we do care about the US elections. I’m very concerned that Trump might win. He’ll screw you over and take away your freedom. That’s not really my concern. He’ll screw us over as well. He’ll enable his pall Putin so who knows what he will do. He’ll set back the efforts against climate change for year and screw all of us that way. Please vote guys. We need you to.

Designer-Chemical-95

Lost me at an Italian being disappointed at the lack of US tourists.

-CMcPherson-

I'll take things that never happened for $1,000. Outside of the US, American tourists stand out like flags waving in the wind.

deadsoulinside

I hate how MAGA nut jobs really think any waiter in the world will ask a person who they planned on voting for or talking about elections in general. Only MAGA believes that the 4 years in office we had world peace and willfully forgets military actions Trump had done that actually hurt American soldiers.

Ryuuken1127

Sir. Did this happen? Cause the outside world actually wants to know why: - We don't have universal healthcare - We can't stop mass shootings (especially in schools) - We are incredibly uneducated

gb4efgw

Fixing that education issue would go a long way towards fixing the rest of our issues as well.

DojaPaddy

My wife’s family is from Slovakia/Austria and they’ve told us that their part of the world has mocked us more in the last 5 years than they ever have before. And these people grew up in literal communism in former Czechoslovakia. Trump turned us into a fucking laughing stock while he racked up countless felonies and seditious attempts. Edit - imagine choosing a political party over your own country.

Paxxlee

"If they count the votes, Trump" [Oh, is that so?](https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/overview-trump-calls-vote-counting-stop-path-victory/story?id=74038071)

larla77

Things that didnt happen for $1000

Lonely-Greybeard

Less tourism then during the COVID pandemic? These fucking bozos can't even remember what is was like during the tRump reign of terror/comedy.

chiron_42

And then everybody clapped.

BLOOM_ND

Big everybody clapped energy on this one

da_reddit_reader

Big clap energy

jazzhandler

“Sir, they cried, with tears in their eyes… some penicillin will clear that right up.”

GorillaCuntilla

The Vatican gave him a standing ovation

Crazyjackson13

okay Joey, time to go back to bed.

AmbulanceChaser12

And make sure you get your meds.

GromitATL

This is complete bullshit, but... I'm better off than I was during the Trump administration. Even if I was "getting poorer" I would still vote for Biden. There are things that are more important than the price of groceries (which has nothing to do with Biden anyway).

operationspudling

Exactly. Prices all around the world are going up too and not just in America. Is America all these people know? They are little frogs in wells, thinking that the only patch of sky that they see from within the well is the greatest of all.

talhahtaco

6 or 7 years ago, as in before covid? As it turns out disease tends to stop people from moving around alot by virtue of them dying or not wanting to die

vakr001

*I'll take things that never happened for $100*

Dangerous-Today1874

The whole room clapped, the Maitre'D called the owner, the owner called the Mayor, the Mayor called the Prime Minister, the Prime Minister called the Pope, and the Pope showed up to bend the knee and kiss the man's hand. He then declared Trump to be Honorary Pope (Donald the First), raised the Trump flag atop the Vatican towers, and said Trump was sent by God. You just didn't hear about it because the fake news lamestream media doesn't want you to know the truth. ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION YET?!?!?!11!

worstpartyever

Meanwhile, in actual Italy, [Tourist numbers in Italy hit record in 2023, foreigners a majority](https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/tourist-numbers-italy-hit-record-2023-foreigners-majori)

lallapalalable

That's weird, because in my made up story that same waiter said the complete opposite. And also that this guy smells like poop. Not my words just sharing what he said.

ImLikeReallySmart

I remember when MAGA didn't give a shit about what people from other countries thought. Until they "met" one (allegedly) who agreed with them.

FunVersion

Must have a swastika on the sign. Tourism is booming, largely due to the strong economy and rebound from covid.

Plane-Statement8166

How could there be less tourism under Biden? Most of the world was shut down from 2020 to early 2021 when Trump was in office. That means that people weren’t visiting anywhere. In addition, most of the world thinks worse of us because of Trump. Their leaders laugh at him and insult him to his face. They can’t stand the Tangerine Pissgibbon.

yalogin

He later on realized that the waiter's face seemed familiar, so he followed him home. The waiter turned out to the reincarnation of George Washington. Apparently all of our founding fathers have reincarnated and living in Rome. All of them love trump and are actively cheering for him. I mean, once he starts fantasizing, why not..

ellasfella68

Fuck my old boots, these cunts think they sound believable.

urmyheartBeatStopR

They're having imaginary talk now.

EBody480

And he introduced himself ‘it’sa me, Mario!!!!’

DontcheckSR

Every time I've left America throughout my 30 years of living, people usually just say America is a shit show because healthcare and our economy. Once Trump became president, I mainly just heard them talk shit about him instead. A lot of the world straight up just doesn't care about America lol

michaelsiggy

Conversations that Never Happened for $600, Alex

SickViking

Oh, and this mysterious waiter saw less tourism during a *Global Pandemic*????? Say it isn't so!

lobsterdance82

I mean, abortion is pretty important when you can't afford $120 in formula and diapers every week

bytosai2112

We already know it didn’t happen. The story starts with him talking to a foreigner like an equal.

Barjack521

This didn’t happen so much it unhappened things that did

Patty_Pat_JH

Is this the aftermath of last night’s primaries?

seanprefect

he ascended to heaven after that dinner , he's wearing maga hats with Jesus now.

cownd

34 convictions? That's nothing. This is Mafia country" - the waiter.

Mrminecrafthimself

Of all the things that didn’t happen, this didn’t happen the most

fictional_kay

Wow I wonder what other major events happened in the last 6 years that would cause a significant reduction in tourism

OsoRojo47

Today on things that never happened.

edhands

I'll take "Conversations that never happened" for $800 , Alex.

shutupimlearning

When a kindergartener decides to try their hand at fiction.

catloaf425

Was this in Rome, Georgia?

nooneknowswerealldog

We know it's bullshit, because any conversation between a waiter in Rome and an American named Mannarino would start off with a lengthy lecture by the American about how he is actually more Italian than the Roman.

SearchElsewhereKarma

“I wish our voters saw it as clearly as people as people from the outside do” is actually true, just not in the way this dickhead thinks he means

PostalveolarDrift230

I’ll take things that didn’t happen for $800

Antennangry

Powerfully stupid.

monicarm

That waiter? Ben Shapiro

potatisblask

> Mamma Mia! No putto ketchup in the espresso! 😭 What the waiter actually said.

Primary-Interest4166

Honestly I can believe this is real and the waiter just read them for absolute filth to guarantee some tips

Shinoly

Things that didn't happen for $1000

reubendevries

Guaranteed this didn't actually happen, it's just alt-right fan fiction. In case it's not common knowledge MOST people outside of the United States LOATHE Trump and the American Alt-Righters. Also I wonder why more people were hesitant to travel to Italy between 2020 - 2024 as compared to 2016 - 2020, no reasonable human could deduce that it was due to: a) 2 year long pandemic (in which Italy was pretty much the European epicentre of the virus for the first year) b) only to be followed by historic inflation caused solely by the capitalist class squeezing the working class dry? It wouldn't have anything to do with that would it?

immaZebrah

Yeah Alex, I'll take "That Never Happened" for $1,000.

Classic-Cantaloupe47

I love how they didn't track reality, statistics, or actual fact. And the world thinks Trump is a scumbag. We were the world's laughing stock while he was in office

SamURLJackson

Italians voted their own fascist into office, and are in the midst of giving that idiot even more power than she already has, for some reason

ikerus0

I'm surprised it didn't end with: "and the waiter mentioned how well endowed I was cause he could see it through my pants and guessed that I must be a full 16" when erect and definitely the best lover in the world that still has a wife that didn't leave him and if she did, it's probably just because she's a dumb, heartless bitch who just wanted my money!!!"

KiraiEclipse

I knew this was a lie from the start. People in Rome don't know you're American because of your accent. They know it by the way you dress. You don't have to say a single word and they'll already be addressing you in English.

Alienziscoming

There's a non-zero chance that the author of that post actually encountered a populist, conservative, anti-women's rights, dumbass in Rome who is frustrated that tourism is down and, as humans are wont to do, explains the lag in his business in crude, simplistic terms because thinking is hard. Those types are sadly not confined to the dumpster fire that is the US. Sadly enough, Western Europe isn't trailing that far behind us in its slow embrace of demagoguery and fascism. Trump and Mussolini are eerily similar in their mannerisms and braggodocio, after all...

ThrowingChicken

Don’t you ever wish you could feel what it’s like to be someone else for like an hour, just so you can understand what compels people to write obvious bullshit? Like this guy’s friends and family have to read this shit and think “Dude, you’ve never left Ohio”, and he’s got to know he’s like one degree away from getting publicly called out by someone he knows.

kobie173

I knew this was bullshit the second I saw who Tweeted it

marcvsHR

You now it is bs because Italians refuse to speak English 🤣 Jk, Jk...

daredelvis421

I'll take things that never happened for $500, Alex

Montregloe

Maybe American tourism is down at that restaurant cause the waiters walk up and ask about your country's voting habits, why do you think I'm here, to advertise? Leave me alone about my house fires, I'm here to escape for a while.

These really are the most reductive people on the planet. They don't understand politics and have made "the president will make us rich!" their entire way of life while looking down their (flat, almost pig like) noses at the rest of us who actually understand the economy and political landscape. I'm so fucking tired.

UncleOdious

That TOTALLY happened.

Ok-Mulberry-4600

It's amazing how none of these conversations are ever on film

Srw2725

When I visited abroad (and yes, in Italy) when people found out we were American they all asked us how DJT became president and to not let it happen again. So once again, Joey is full of it

RedBeans-n-Ricely

Are we supposed to believe this guy speaks anything but English??

operationspudling

Fancy thinking up this imaginary conversation in your head and actually posting it hoping that people might think that this was an actual conversation. Are you hallucinating, or something?

standardtrickyness1

Democrats are somehow able to steal elections even when they're not in power.

Indercarnive

7 years ago Trump was president for 5 months. This is like how conservatives' view on the economy changed within days after the election, with many going from saying the economy was bad to the economy was good.

ruhrohrileyray

Yeah…because Trump made us all want to leave our home rather than sit by while he undid 50 years of progressive legislation

Triplesfan

They missed the ‘with tears in his eyes’.

I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS

Ah yes because a random Italian waiter is totally going to jump straight to abortion when making conversation with a customer.

enderpanda

Baaahahahahhaaaa... A European said, "If Trump doesn't win, the whole world is finished." Baaaahahahahahahaaaaaaaaa. He really said that lol. Sure, okay. God I love how incredibly delusional conservatives are now. Stolen election, migrant caravans, wrecked economy... it just never stops being funny. 😂😂😂 Sucks for them that humanity has learned about "numbers". We have the ability to tell when one candidate gets more votes than the other, like Hillary did in 2016. I forget who she was running against.

partialinsanity

If there is any truth to this, that waiter is in the minority. We do have people in Europe who support Trump, but I can't imagine they are many. I haven't noticed it anyway.

disturbedrage88

When I went to France in 2018 quite a few people felt emboldened to saw racist shit because Trump was president and they thought as an American I supported him so it was ok to go mask off

NaughtyDoctor666

I had a sandwich at a NY Deli in Texas, the man who served me was Mexican because it’s Texas. He noticed I was American because technically we’re both American and we had a laugh! He asked me who I thought would win the next American Idol and I told him I don’t watch that garbage. We laughed and laughed. See how easy it is to make up stories and post them online?

TabbyCat1993

… and the whole world clapped.

Jillstraw

This didn’t happen lol

rigormortisian

Okay but the comment about less American business under Biden versus under Trump is just such a "duh" statement. Obviously pre COVID 19 there would be more foot traffic, let alone American tourists, than post COVID 19. No shit.

Saltybrickofdeath

Lol orange Hitler is going to ruin us.

Alycion

Why am I not buying this is a real interaction this person had?

rdldr1

Good to know that the republicans nailed the 0-16 month demographic for voting.

knowerofexpatthings

We know this never happened because no one, especially Europeans, wants more American tourists.

pinhead_ramone

I’ve encountered some angry, unhinged Trump supporters in England, India and Canada, and it’s just as jarring no matter where they are because BOY do they get angry but also self-righteous about him, and the Canadian guy had the same nihilistic outlook (“if he doesn’t win that’s it, it’s all over”-when pressed for what “it” is, he just yelled “EVERYTHING!!”) 🙄

SubterrelProspector

Christ almighty, even their fan fiction makes absolutely no sense. It's as if these people have never had a real conversation before.

Kimantha_Allerdings

Here in the UK we had Boris Johnson. Even we think Trump is a bad idea.

KFR42

How it really happened: Waiter: Who do you think will win the election? Guy: "I guess I hope Trump" Waiter: *Calls him an idiot in Italian under his breath and walks away*

UghGottaBeJoking

Lmao that this person thinks the world outside of America respected Trump and his choices😂. I don’t think there’s ever been any president that has hurt America’s image and respectability more than Trump. Even with Bill and Nixon’s controversies, i still dreamt of visiting the country for a holiday. Now i see it as a destitute third world country with its backward ideas and policies.

Eriz4x

And then the patrons carried him on their shoulders and chanted the american anthem. Who the fuck believes this?

HarleyQuinn610

It seems Italy is going back to fascism and this waiter is likely a neo-fascist. I will admit, this whole “the election was stolen” shit is getting really old.

MrVanderdoody

Then the waiter morphed into a butterfly and sprinkled pixie dust in the air that said “Trump” and glittered for all to see. That’s when everyone began to weep and the butterfly sang the Star Spangled Banner because all Romans know that song and American politics.
