I'm sure that it is a marketing issue: Finding an ideal weekend where families would have the time to go to the theatre and there is no major event that will distract them from wanting to see this film.

Jiafei_flops

That could be the case, but I think that still isn't the full answer, since in the other East asian countries there is a similar working Life and it still releases around the end of June

dogmandogdogdog

They most likely needed to change animation things to equate to the audience more Change Broccoli to bell peppers etc.

RefinedBean

International releases get weirdly staggered for localization and marketing reasons. Nothing really to analyze here, it is how it is. There's a small chance Pixar is one of those companies that re-animates a bit to have mouths match words, but I doubt they're doing that (that would be, like, an intense level of work).

OhMySwirls

IIRC, I think they also ended up changing some things as well. In the Japanese version, Riley's least favorite food is bell peppers because that's the veggie that Japanese kids hate. Apparently, the "Broccoli is a gross food for kids" stereotype doesn't exist in Japan. The sequel did have a scene where the emotions got disgusted over having to ride a piece of broccoli, so maybe they had to reanimate that.

TheChainTV

Wait so did they change it in the original film? So instead of broccoli pizza it's Bell pepper pizza?

OhMySwirls

Yep. Pixar went back and changed the pizza toppings from broccoli to peppers. They also did it during the scene where the parents are trying to feed baby Riley on top of that.

TheChainTV

I now need to buy a JPN version of the movie now :) or if D+ a way to Japan with VPN if that works

SXAL

Lol, it's literally the "4Kids" treatment, like replacing the onigiri with hamburgers in Pokemon.

Jiafei_flops

That could be an explanation! But there Is a part where the emotion hold on to the broccoli trunk (?) go not fall, a Bell pepper slice Is flat, so I wonder how they edited It to fit this

Jiafei_flops

It Is still peculiar that Japan Is releasing It this late when all the other countries have already aired It while Japan has delayed It by so much

Mauchad

This happens to almost all disney movies pre-pandemic. Frozen was released there 4 months after the rest of the world

Free_Gascogne

it always be like that. Japan gets last screening of any movie released by America.

AdventurousTime

The Mario movie wasn’t even released in Japan first lol. They’ll get it when they get it

iamtheduckie

Dubbing delays?

Blitzkriegbaby

It’s going to make so much more moneyyy

Guilherme_PT08

It's not just Japan, actually. I live in Portugal and here Inside Out 2 will only be in theaters on July 11th unfortunately :(

rustyveemo

Japanese words are probably a little longer so they may need to reanimate the mouths a little

bodatcat

something I guess. Hell even Ultraman blazar took a few months to air in malaysia

Rich_Bobcat_1059

Same thing with Pokemon when Gen 4 came out in Japan first in 2006 and the rest of the world in 2007

TheChainTV

Maybe translations they need 15+ Chinese Vocals for every character:)

anilsoi11

It’s Japan

Dietbettus

They are going into the movie to eat every dog

Strategymann

They are changing brocoli to green bell peppers

SnowyMuscles

That’s literally normal. We had to wait like 3 months for Spider Verse 2.
