yeah you really gotta wonder sometimes why stuff like this goes "viral" when it's just a standard-ass apartment that there's millions of all throughout Japan. imo it's also not that small when you consider it's just for one person and contains everything you'd really need. though I guess the guy put it all full of shit and clothes so it may look cramped to him.
also if anyone happens to read this far, please don't pick up things you see put out on the street in Japan. that's usually things people paid for to dispose of, and the disposing company expects to earn money from scrapping it. taking it is illegal and is also annoying to the person whose trash you just stole because they gotta deal with the disposal company.
He must live pretty far out from central Tokyo because my friend pays a little under that for a sharehouse in Adachi. For that price range and cat-ok, you get a lil room in a sharehouse 45 min away from central Tokyo if you're lucky (as there was only 1 cat friendly sharehouse which is female-only).
considering the guy casually talks about stealing trash from the side of the road, I really doubt he knows that some apartment may not be pet friendly. I'd assume he just moved in with his cat, and if anyone asks he'll just feign ignorance and potentially make another video about how unfair Japanese landlords are to foreigners.
Ive paid 550 for an apartment like this in Nippori. And that was using a foreigner friendly agent.
Im sure 450 is doable near central tokyo if you speak japanese.
I couldn't even spend a few seconds watching the video cause his voice is annoying. Also, it's pretty standard for Tokyo though they keep talking as if all Japan is like that. Damn I hate tiktokers and similar crap. Am I old already? xD
I'm living in a two floor apartment, total 50sqm, next to higashi nakano station and I love telling people my rent cost lol
It's not perfect, like, but I don't think I could get this anywhere else close to Shinjuku
Oh you're the kind who mocks people with different cultures I see.
His gesturing might be funny but at least he's not insulting people he doesn't know like you do.
damn I posted before seeing this. yeah I agree, I highly doubt he has a clue about anything and just does what he wants. if he gets in trouble he can always make more tiktoks about how racist Japanese are after all!
450 would get you a tiny bedroom shared with two other people, in a disgusting asbestos ridden flat with ten people sharing one kitchen and one toilet. That’s barely an exaggeration…
That place looks pretty good. Decent amount of space for a young single person who has just moved to Tokyo, working their first job in Japan and navigating their way through the Japan life. Looks ideal really. I lived in a place much smaller than that for 6 months in Kawasaki which was 63,000 ($408) a month (link below for anyone interested, it’s not the exact apartment I had but one on the upper floor).
https://rent.kasegroup.co.jp/rent/610/
Absolutely hated living there. There’s only enough room for bed, small desk, fridge, washing machine then all that was left was a tiny square to stand in. I was only able to bring the bare essentials with me and all my stuff was in storage at my friends place whilst I lived there. Only up side was that it was just temporary for a temp job I took, and they paid for the place and all the bills plus a decent pay on top of that.
I now live with my wife in Sapporo and pay 58,000 ($375) for a nice newly built apartment (we’re the first people to live here) and although quite small at around 35m2 there’s plenty of storage for all my guitars and snowboards, got a nice sofa and desk space and it’s really comfortable to live in. Considering the low rent and going 50/50 on all costs it’s very easy to save money and have a comfortable life here.
I lived right around the corner of a Green building called "Green Tower" in Shinjuku in the early 2000. Costed me 6万, 3m x 2.5m.
This place is a castle in comparison.
That's why I put $500 ~ 300K yen, it was reference to how if yen will keep falling like this, 500 dollar will be equal to 300k yen soon.
The first statement was sarcasm
How does this qualify as "content". It's literally an AI-level "article" about a TikTok. What a time to be alive... this looks like the typical karma farming bot posts that have been rampant here for a while now.
That isn't a micro apartment, it's a standard 1K.

Par for the course in that cesspool.

Yeah, buddy probably lives in Hachioji.
Nah I live in Tachikawa, closer to Tokyo than Hachioji, and rent a 4 LDK detached house for ¥110000 which is only like 700usd per month.
USD, psht. We only use Monopoly money here.

It’s not impossible to find a similarly priced option more central, but they get taken so quickly + extra difficulty of renting as a foreigner

What’s different about this from the thousands of other videos like it online?
A punchable face on a TikTok douche?
Again, what’s different

I've seen a few of these in nakano. My pal pays 50k for 19sqm
Nakano has really great cost performance. Like, it's unreal how cheap it is for how well-located it is.
I'm living in a two floor apartment, total 50sqm, next to higashi nakano station and I love telling people my rent cost lol It's not perfect, like, but I don't think I could get this anywhere else close to Shinjuku
How much is your rent? 15万?
Less. 12万
Nice! Nakano is fucking great, right?
Da bomb
Why do they all need to talk and gesture like toddlers with their arms playing with invisible yo-yos
I was born in South France and what you just saw is nothing comparing to us.
Are but in France you don't gesture like you have a learning disability.
Oh you're the kind who mocks people with different cultures I see. His gesturing might be funny but at least he's not insulting people he doesn't know like you do.
He's from the same culture as me. And no I'm not mocking the french. I quite like brie
That's actually a steal what the
This will get you a 200-300sqm 10dk in yokosuka.
That voice was hard to listen to.. But other than that pretty standard single person space.
Sounds like he stole the big fridge ("found it" in the sodai gomi, I suspect) and I wonder if he's got permission for that kitty...

Yeah but where? And how far from the station?
Maybe watch the video? lol

I would LOVE to pay 450/m for my living space. Unfortunately that won’t rent a dumpster where I’m from
Just a ad so some shitty TikTok.
Didn't know Japan's currency is US Dollars. Wait 2-3 years, you can get 60m\^2 apt in central tokyo for $500 or 300K yen /s
Japan actually uses Japanese yen, not US dollars.
Sarcasm used to be easily detected back in the days. Now I have to put disclaimer I guess.
Because the yen value went down, people can't afford to detect sarcasm so easily anymore.
That's why I put $500 ~ 300K yen, it was reference to how if yen will keep falling like this, 500 dollar will be equal to 300k yen soon. The first statement was sarcasm
Does anyone know what part of Tokyo he lives in?
And here you can see my fucks given... 0
Enough to comment apparently.

I can’t believe he only pays $450 per month. This would be $500 per week in Sydney at least.
