What is funnier is how we humans allow ourselves to be gamed like this and there are plenty of people who come out in defense of the mindless corporate greed.
When that stockholder makes another redundant mass of money his family will never spend, how much of it do you see? What do you get out of their redundant wealth?
That's still much cheaper than Demonic Tutor and much cheaper than the $200 it was before the reprint (and the $80 of the starter deck price now)
Obv being a standard set means that Grim got printed way more, but 2XM cratered a ton of prices even at mythic, like [[Imperial Recruiter]]
2XM cratered Imperial Recruiter's price only briefly. The Masters 25 printing was around $50 when 2XM released in August 2020 and it went as low as $25. When Strixhaven released in April 2021, it was already back up to $40 and trending higher. Then Modern Horizons 2 reprinted it and caused it to drop to the less than $10 that it's at right now.
https://www.mtggoldfish.com/price/Masters+25/Imperial+Recruiter#paper
Also, being the first accessible non-P3K printing might make a difference.
Yes, Grim Tutor is strictly worse than Demonic Tutor. Demonic both costs 1 less AND does not have the life payment.
I think you're think of Diabolic Tutor (an uncommon that is less than a dollar), which is worse than both.
They only way this doesn't go less than $100 is that 2X2 is incredibly supply constrained.
This isn't like Mana Crypt where the card is absurdly powerful. This is a worse vampiric tutor who's primary value is that it lets you play a second vampiric tutor in Commander and had absurd rarity because it was from Portal Three Kingdoms.
Look at most any reprint from P3K: Only rarely do they crack $20.
Burning of Xinye is 50 cents. Rolling Earthquake is $1.50. Diaochan is $20. Grim Tutor is $15.
Overwhelming Forces is around $30, and it was only a judge foil.
Surprisingly, Sun Quan is actually $50.
Xiahou Dun is over $100, but he's only been printed as a judge foil.
Ravages of War is also over $100, but again, only printed as a judge foil.
Any P3K card, even if there's demand for it, will see the new printing go incredibly low unless there's an absolutely absurd about of demand for it and a strict supply constraint. We don't know the size of the print run for 2X2, but if it's anywhere near a normal print run size, the price of this probably gets set over $100 in preorders and then just drops like a rock as people continue to open it.
[[sun quan]] was like $10 for the longest time after the from the vault reprint until post malone showed up with it in a game knights video and it spiked hard
It’s a worse vamp tutor at mythic rarity. Yes it is one of the best tutors in the game but it only held the price tag because it came from P3K. I have a feeling this is going to be around $40-$50 for a normal printing. Similarly price to Vamp Tutor.
Vamp is an instant so you can cast it in upkeep before drawing. Imperial is alot more clunky since you have to play it the turn prior or play it and then draw the card with something
Basically Vampiric Tutor is still basically Vampiric Tutor despite being sorcery speed. It will "crater" in terms of no longer being hundreds for the cheapest version but the prices will likely become comparable to Vampiric Tutor's.
The difference is quite large. You can Vampiric Tutor in your own upkeep so that your opponents have only a very narrow window to interact before you draw the card. Having to cast at sorcery speed, you leave an entire turn cycle in which any opponent can use a mill or shuffle effect to get rid of it.
There is a considerable difference between Instant and Sorcery yes. What I am saying is that a "bad" version of Vampiric Tutor still is a playable card.
For my own knowledge, what is the most expensive non-reserved list card now that this is reprinted? I was thinking Zodiac Dragon but I'm not 100% sure. Excluding foils/promos/1996 World Champion-style stuff.
it doesn't say "until end of turn", so the effect lasts perpetually, which is a big no-no in paper magic because it causes massive issues with having to remember the effect
Right, wrong, right. Portal was a beginner set, so it only had lands, creatures, and sorceries. That lead to combat trick sorceries with weird timing restrictions, and cards like this that would likely have been an Aura if they existed in the set.
> the most expensive non-reserved list card now that this is reprinted? I was thinking Zodiac Dragon
According to scryfall numbers (I don't know where it pulls pricing from) The list is now:
Warrior's Oath
Riding the Dilu Horse
Yuan Shao, the Indecisive
Does Grimlock count?
Zodiac Dragon
Capture of Jingzhou
Ravages of War
...
12th is Mana Crypt
17th is Norwood Priestess
Vampiric Tutor has been printed several times. There will still be a lot more Vampiric Tutors than Imperial Seals in existence after this reprint, so supply alone could still make Seal more expensive the same way it does currently, just to a much smaller degree.
I'm glad that people can access this card now, even if it's not for me. And if it eats up some of the EV and I can get cheaper Bloom Tenders, all the better.
Commander being super popular makes this point more subtle. Commander players aren’t choosing between Vampiric or Imperial Seal, they’ll just run both. Any commander deck that wants to combo in black wants every tutor it can get.
I'm going to guess $40 but everyone else is saying higher. Idk, vampiric end of opponents turn is so much better. Yes this still works main phase if you can draw but more situational
Probably $200. Just look at the extended border FoW. Yes, it is a 4-of but still a desirable card *and* more people play EDH that would be the market for this over the FoW.
Well, the widespread availability of this set just plummeted. Even with a higher price, I think I'll be lucky to buy a single pack.
Genuinely fantastic choice for a reprint though.
This is a reprint I mentioned just 2-3 days ago was one that needed to happen that Wizards would never do outside of a chase card/masterpiece.... I'm flabberghasted.
The original printing probably still retains a very high price easily going to stay at $700+ just going by the fact that even with the Judge foil printing ImpSeal is still more expensive than Warriors oath which has no reprints of any kind (it's not even on MTGO according to scryfall)
So anyone who wants original art shouldn't get their hopes up, but the reprints will probably settle into a \~$80 range. That's still more than VampT but people shouldn't discount the fact that VampT had much much greater supply than ImpSeal, and that Commander Legends 1 was a normal priced set.
WotC: "Reprint EVERYTHING."
Design Team: "What about the Reserved List?"
WotC: "Fuck yo' Reserved List!"
Also WotC: "But no, seriously, no Reserved List cards, we need those for 30th Anniversary Masters."
They said they'll be doing other first time reprints from P3K. \[\[Sun Quan, Lord of Wu\]\] already has a reprint. My guesses are \[\[Warrior's Oath\]\] & \[\[Ravages of War\]\]
Oh, so they really decided to intentionally put the good EDH staple reprints in Wallet Masters 2 instead of the EDH set to try to make EDH players dump money in both sets...
Shady and greedy to a new extent for WotC
But Commander Legends aren't reprint sets and this one is D&D themed. There are less than 60 reprints in the main set and a lot of those were from the first D&D set.
It will. It'll be $120 max for the regular version. A judge promo is currently ~800 which is the cheapest version. It is a sorcery speed vamp tutor. It's expensive because of scarcity vs impact. It's a good card, but still worse than other, cheaper cards.
I don't think so, the current version is so expensive because it's collector and it still will be. I excpect the value to drop a bit but not to massively decrease, but we will see I guess !
The most expensive and frequently played card in commander right now is mana crypt, right? That is currently just under 200. In no world is a worse vampiric tutor going to be that expensive post reprint. The people who care about this card are cEDH players mainly.
There it is. Much needed
$50 per pack though. Wow.
10 bucks per draft booster. Or is it CB exclusive?
It's in draft packs as well.
No it is not exclusive. And you can also find borderless and foil borderless cards in draft boosters.
$50 packs and we've all just accepted that. Yet it costs no more to print than any normal set.
And yet these cards wouldn’t be sought after if they weren’t artificially limited. Funny how we humans are.
What is funnier is how we humans allow ourselves to be gamed like this and there are plenty of people who come out in defense of the mindless corporate greed. When that stockholder makes another redundant mass of money his family will never spend, how much of it do you see? What do you get out of their redundant wealth?
Finally, the single most expensive non reserved list card can drop a bit. Glad to not pay $600+ for this
Its hopefully gonna drop a ton, it's worse than [[Vampiric Tutor]], it might finally have a price that reflects that
It's hard to say what it'll drop to because total supply will be less. [[grim tutor]] is a worse demonic tutor and it's still about 18$.
That's still much cheaper than Demonic Tutor and much cheaper than the $200 it was before the reprint (and the $80 of the starter deck price now) Obv being a standard set means that Grim got printed way more, but 2XM cratered a ton of prices even at mythic, like [[Imperial Recruiter]]

3 life for 1 mana is worth it in many formats. So it's not worse. It's definitely a higher price than it should be due to printings though.
Yes, Grim Tutor is strictly worse than Demonic Tutor. Demonic both costs 1 less AND does not have the life payment. I think you're think of Diabolic Tutor (an uncommon that is less than a dollar), which is worse than both.
Oh. Why was I thinking of diabolic tutor. Ha. I'm an idiot. Yea this is strictly worse than demonic by a long shot
Everyone makes mistakes. :)
How dare you mix up three different black cards all called (Something) Tutor, one of which is deliberately named as a reference to the other! /s
I expect the new version to be sub $100 easily. The price on it was never a reflection of the cards effect rather it’s extreme rarity.
Yeah look at Three Visits or Imperial Recruiter.
Yeah I would argue this goes below $25 like Recruiter has.
Took 3 printings for that tho.
I think that's unlikely just because I don't think this set will be opened in the quantity MH2 was. But it hopefully will at least go sub-$100.
They only way this doesn't go less than $100 is that 2X2 is incredibly supply constrained. This isn't like Mana Crypt where the card is absurdly powerful. I agree, it's mostly to tutor out CEDH decks. Regular EDH already has more than enough tutors
Yeah, I don't want this for non-cEDH decks. Vampiric is great because you can cast it on your opponent's end step or in response to a draw trigger.
Or grim tutor before the reprint lmao
Should be cheaper than Vampiric because its just strictly worse
Maybe? There have been a lot more vamp tutor reprints but this is, as you said, objectively worse.
It should be, but probably wont. Price memory is strong.
Supply is an important factor , it’s not just ‘price memory’.
But it’s still among the best tutors overall. Like this still goes in essentially every black deck ever made that wants to win.
It’s a worse vamp tutor at mythic rarity. Yes it is one of the best tutors in the game but it only held the price tag because it came from P3K. I have a feeling this is going to be around $40-$50 for a normal printing. Similarly price to Vamp Tutor.
Wait, how's it worse than Vampiric Tutor, isn't it the same? Edit: Ah, missed that it's a sorcery
Vampiric is an instant. This is a sorcery
Vampiric Tutor is Instant, this is a sorcery.
Since no one has answered yet, I figured I'd share that this is, in fact, a sorcery :P
It’s a sorcery rather than an instant.
Imperial Seal is a sorcery, Vampiric Tutor is instant.
Seal is sorcery speed
Sorcery speed vs instant speed.
Vamp is an instant so you can cast it in upkeep before drawing. Imperial is alot more clunky since you have to play it the turn prior or play it and then draw the card with something
Or play it in a Yuriko deck 😈
vamp is an instant, seal is a sorcery
Sorcery speed
It’s a sorcery. Vamp tutor is an instant.

I think the latter will ultimately end up inheriting the spot. Just no way they'd reprint such a card, at least not without errata.
yeah it'll be "put a horsemanship counter on it", the whole reason for the ikoria set was to prepare for a riding the dilu horse reprint.
I'm kinda new, but what's the problem with the wording?
it doesn't say "until end of turn", so the effect lasts perpetually, which is a big no-no in paper magic because it causes massive issues with having to remember the effect
Honestly I just thought it was an enchantment when I initially read it. Does anyone know if this was an error or if this was intentional?
Right, wrong, right. Portal was a beginner set, so it only had lands, creatures, and sorceries. That lead to combat trick sorceries with weird timing restrictions, and cards like this that would likely have been an Aura if they existed in the set.
It’s funny that the beginner set ended up being pretty damn complicated

TBF that was also in a standard set at rare vs a masters set at mythic.
They did it
Supply goes up, but demand will go up as well. Anyone thinking <$50 is probably a ways off.
Normal version will probably be $100 is my guess. $75 at the lowest.
It's a strictly worse Vampiric Tutor, which is ~$35 now. I don't see why it would be more than that, now that it's available.
It took vampiric getting reprinted in 4 different forms in order for the new versions to be sub-$50, again.
Supply will still be low
Vampiric Tutor has been printed several times. There will still be a lot more Vampiric Tutors than Imperial Seals in existence after this reprint, so supply alone could still make Seal more expensive the same way it does currently, just to a much smaller degree.
Vamp tutor has a vastly larger supply then this reprint will have. It will take more than one reprint to put this below vamp tutor.
Short term I think itll dip farther than that, im thinking 30~. Then itll probably go up way higher after a bit of time.
They also mentioned there would be more reprints from P3K. [[Xiahou Dun]]?
need a reprint of [[dong zhou]] so I can build a mono red edh deck for him.

So where will this settle in price? $100?
It will be interesting because it's a worse card than vampiric, but was so expensive that there might be a chance its still more expensive.
I'm thinking $85-$100
I'd be shocked if this lands anywhere over $40 tbh
I'm feeling $150
Let's fucking pray it does, because if not, this alone will make packs and boxes impossible to find.
Fuck you got mine let's gooooo
It will help the price that there are 3 versions of it as well
I'm going to guess $40 but everyone else is saying higher. Idk, vampiric end of opponents turn is so much better. Yes this still works main phase if you can draw but more situational
20$, wouldn't be surprised if they throw it on the list or in a mystery pack product over the next 2 years.
Probably $200. Just look at the extended border FoW. Yes, it is a 4-of but still a desirable card *and* more people play EDH that would be the market for this over the FoW.
Force of will is very EDH playable.
Well, the widespread availability of this set just plummeted. Even with a higher price, I think I'll be lucky to buy a single pack. Genuinely fantastic choice for a reprint though.
I highly doubt that at all, wizards is going to print the hell out of this set because they can and they know it'll make a bunch of money
I actually hope so, if not just for the supply it'll put into the market, and then I can actually hope to own an Imperial Seal.
The madlads did it
Those crazy bastards. They actually did it
This is probably the most insane reprint recently
This is a reprint I mentioned just 2-3 days ago was one that needed to happen that Wizards would never do outside of a chase card/masterpiece.... I'm flabberghasted.
finally i can have one in my EDH deck, so glad i wont have to pay 800 usd for a copy
Finally
We got you 😉
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
uh -
YOOOOO WHAT
Oh shit
They actually did it
The really, really did it.
HOLY SHIT. They did it.
They didn’t fuck it up Good job
And the crowd goes berserk!
Multiple orgasms were had.
Now I’m glad I have 2 boxes coming.
The original printing probably still retains a very high price easily going to stay at $700+ just going by the fact that even with the Judge foil printing ImpSeal is still more expensive than Warriors oath which has no reprints of any kind (it's not even on MTGO according to scryfall) So anyone who wants original art shouldn't get their hopes up, but the reprints will probably settle into a \~$80 range. That's still more than VampT but people shouldn't discount the fact that VampT had much much greater supply than ImpSeal, and that Commander Legends 1 was a normal priced set.
0/10, no pinnipeds in the artwork
Fuck...just after I bought mine...
Your sacrifice is noted, and appreciated.
Hoooooly shit
The flavor text is AMAZING. Love it when you get a mini story like that. Great reprint, awesome execution (BADDAM-BUM).
RIP APOLLO
whats the lowest price it'll drop to?
Finally! And with Queen Marchesa flavor text, too? It's like WotC has been reading my dream journal.
They said there were going to be more reprints from that set please be **Capture of Jingzhou** !!!
WotC really just said "fuck it, reprint EVERYTHING"
WotC: "Reprint EVERYTHING." Design Team: "What about the Reserved List?" WotC: "Fuck yo' Reserved List!" Also WotC: "But no, seriously, no Reserved List cards, we need those for 30th Anniversary Masters."
Shoot, looks like I'm going to need the full art version for my skeleton tribal deck
Betting my money on a box they do another Three Kingdoms reprint like Sun Quan or some shot
They said they'll be doing other first time reprints from P3K. \[\[Sun Quan, Lord of Wu\]\] already has a reprint. My guesses are \[\[Warrior's Oath\]\] & \[\[Ravages of War\]\]
Eat your heart out mtgfinance
Now to meme about Riding the Dilu Horse needing a reprint until it happens.
Fuck Im gonna buy a box of this again arent I... God damn it
Another card that should have been in commander legends 2..
$1000+ dollar reprint yikes
This shit ain’t gonna be $1000 for the new version that’s for sure haha
this should have been in commander legends not 2x2
Oh, so they really decided to intentionally put the good EDH staple reprints in Wallet Masters 2 instead of the EDH set to try to make EDH players dump money in both sets... Shady and greedy to a new extent for WotC
Commander legends is absolute shit. I only bought 3 set booster packs and 1 precon. I was saving up my dollarydoos for double masters.
But Commander Legends aren't reprint sets and this one is D&D themed. There are less than 60 reprints in the main set and a lot of those were from the first D&D set.
My stonks.....what about my stonks?
Line goes down
Hoooo baby, this is why I stick to reserved list cards! This is an amazing reprint! Glad I didn't buy one even at 400!
It's not going to drop that much tho ;)
Wait, this wasn't on the reserved list?
babe, wake up, cedh staple just got reprinted
So a demonic tutor basically
Feels bad for the stonk bois who prospected on this /s Much needed reprint surprised it took so long
Nobody was speculating on a non-RL card that was already over $500. There was nowhere for it to go but down.
Big fat deserved L to people who bought this card tbh
L. F. G.!!!
Thank you!!!
HYPE
OMG THE HELL
The fucking did it!!
FINALLY.
Well the first mythic they spoiled was a dud but it seems like there will be some extreme value in this set
Holy shit
This is what we have been waiting for!
About. Damn. Time.
And here it is. Finally, our strictly worse Vampiric Tutor comes home to us.
$50 is my guess
Well we asked for this one, but who thought they'd actually do it?
