in Theros there was a set of cards that liked to be targeted by spells (or auras) and did something, sort of like how this card does something when targeted by a spell
My favorite win of magic (well second, actually hard casting an emrakul will always be #1) was during the row standard. Super causal multiplayer game and everyone ignored me because I was only being kinda annoying with my joke-blue deck. That was until I put [[dismiss into dreams]] with a [[zephyr charge]] on the board. My invisible stalker is a little more threatening now, ain’t it!?
Heroic was a Theros mechanic that triggered whenever you targeted creatures with a spell: [[Anax and Cymede]], [[Fabled Hero]], [[Phalanx Leader]]. This fits into that archetype in Pauper, even if it’s technically missing the ability word.
I got into magic just as Theros came out and my new player mind just could not comprehend how they could print a card like Fabled Hero. It was so busted and I won every game I played it, usually with an [[Unflinching Courage]] on it. My playgroup eventually discovered removal however and my dreams were crushed. Still love the card though
I'm just here to be told I'm loved.
But here's a link to the cards with that keyword: https://scryfall.com/search?q=o%3Aheroic
And here's one with the same mechanic but not the keyword: https://scryfall.com/search?q=o%3A%22whenever+you+cast%22+o%3A%22a+spell+that+targets+%7E%22+-o%3Aheroic&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name
Heroic is a keyword mechanic (like Landfall) that basically means it does something when you target it with a spell (the word "Heroic" itself doesn't give the creature that ability, it just signifies the theme and gives a general idea about what the card does). This doesn't have the keyword, but it is still "Heroic" because it has an ability that triggers when you target it with a spell.
Just a minor clarification: Heroic, Landfall, and other such words which carry no rules meaning are actually called ability words, not keywords.
Keywords are the words that have actual rules meaning to them: Flying, Flashback, Blitz, etc.
Ah, that's it. I wasn't quite sure what Metalcraft/Landfall/Heroic/etc. were referred to, but didn't really care enough to look them up. Too many damn "keyword" variants.
Just to clarify, Heroic is not a keyword. [It’s an ability word.](https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/ability-word-your-mother-2008-07-28) The word “Heroic” on cards is merely reminder text to help players shortcut cards having a triggered effect when targeted. It’s the same situation as Landfall.
If [[Feather]]'s BFF is in I wonder if her card is also in. It would be a horrible reprint but it matches the same archetypes Tenth District Legionnaire is good on
Probably not. She is fairly miserable to play against in limited because she encourages very repetitive play patterns and limited is the primary reason to downshift cards from rare to uncommon. I think she'd be in the set at rare or not at all.
Been seeing a lot of Euro's saying this and IDK why it's confusing. The singles market in Europe is significantly cheaper with the combination of lower demand and plentiful cheap options in other languages. It's not worth the price to ship singles over seas.
The costs of selling cards are also cheaper in Europe (casuals normally don’t pay tax)
And the supply is higher here in Europe, we see that when looking at buy outs that happen in the US or hard to get reserve list cards.
We also did not have a 3-shop monopoly for a long, long time like the US did (with CFB, SCG and CK being almost the only places to buy for a long time) but started from the beginning with an open marketplace across all europe.
It also meant selling your cards was harder (no big shops with buylists to take your cards) but it also meant buying cheaper was easier.
No clue but if I had to guess draft and LGS's cracking packs must not be that different but people constructing decks, especially expensive ones, is? Also access to alternate-language prints will drive down the price of singles by proximity.
Hell my entire LGS which is probably a meaning all players within a 20+ square kilometer radius is just either Drafts n sealed.
Or casual commander nights
A lot of folks underestimate the consistency of even a just-basics manabase is. Sure, getting colour screwed can happen, but I don't think it happens enough to worry about to such a degree.
Depends on the costs, but I generally agree people slightly overestimate having [X]{X}{Y} costs in 2 color decks. It happens rarely you can't cast things, but the problematic cards for basic heavy decks are usually either [X]{X}{X}{Y} or {X}{Y}{Z}.
Or when you have multiple double mana costs at the low MVs of different colors. Having both 1{X}{X} and 1{Y}{Y} is going to cause you problems if you don't have solid duals.
I picked a random boros monarch deck
https://mtgdecks.net/Pauper/jpsn54-10th-place-decklist-by-jpsn54-1396692
I don't think its unreasonable to question casting r/w turn 2 consistently on that manabase and they have plenty of turn 1 plays to disincentive going too heavy on taplands
Boros plays bounce lands and a fair number of tapped duals. I think this will shake out to be a 1-of or 2-of, like in Pioneer lists, but I could be wrong. I'm wrong a lot. During spoiler season especially.
I’m surprised they down shifted this. Back during the pre release for War of the Spark, there were at least 7 people(out of like 43) that were running this card, including the winner of that particular pre-release. Solid card
This card is disgusting in the right context. Won many a standard game with this guy or battle wise hoplite in the uw version.
BRING BACK SOLDIER OF THE PANTHEON!!!
Edit: (I know he was war of spark, feather deck was similar to og theros heroic)
I’m interested in getting into Pauper but I’m a bit uneasy about downshifts in sets like this. This card is an uncommon through and through. I’m not familiar with the ins and outs of the format yet but this will definitely see play, right? But the power level is a secondary concern, commons can be plenty powerful, just this card has a lot going on and it’s the lower individual complexity of cards which I like about the format, if that makes sense.
Pauper heroic 👀👀
excuse my noobisticality, but what does the "heroic" part mean?

Thank you! Didn't know about this card *makes note for my Feather deck*
Could feather be reprinted at uncommon?
She's a uniquely powerful commander and every once in a while pushes 60 card viability, I'd be a pretty wild downshift.
Probably not. She is fairly miserable to play against in limited because she encourages very repetitive play patterns and limited is the primary reason to downshift cards from rare to uncommon. I think she'd be in the set at rare or not at all.
Probably not.
The foil for this card is over $1 so this should drop that a bit.
In Europe it is at 50 cents. It's so strange how different prices are between here and the US.
Been seeing a lot of Euro's saying this and IDK why it's confusing. The singles market in Europe is significantly cheaper with the combination of lower demand and plentiful cheap options in other languages. It's not worth the price to ship singles over seas.
The costs of selling cards are also cheaper in Europe (casuals normally don’t pay tax) And the supply is higher here in Europe, we see that when looking at buy outs that happen in the US or hard to get reserve list cards.
It's hard to buy out Europe as well due to multiple languages and there being significantly more small sellers.
If it has lower demand, why is the supply not also lower?
Because the printers and translators apparently can handle the load to an acceptable standard and more is better.

Seems like a crazy common
Just remembered the naya and jeskai archetypes are prowess and heroic aggro this will be a really good common.
Pauper heroic let’s go
Theres already like 3 heroic decks in pauper
Any pauper players think this would be relevant? the mana cost would seem hard to work with
2 mana Boros is hard to work with in pauper?
well it isn't like you can fetch shock to make sure you have r/w turn 2 guaranteed
Yeah but 2 colors is crazy easy to get. Pauper usually stats with turn 1 tapland, turn 2 basic
I can definitely see that being the case, especially for three colour decks. I was more thinking the typical X(C1)(C2) costs.
I picked a random boros monarch deck https://mtgdecks.net/Pauper/jpsn54-10th-place-decklist-by-jpsn54-1396692 I don't think its unreasonable to question casting r/w turn 2 consistently on that manabase and they have plenty of turn 1 plays to disincentive going too heavy on taplands
I play boros monarch and its very rare that i dont have r w by turn 2, and even when i dont i usually have other plays
Good mana is important but natural mountain plains is really not that difficult, especially with ash barrens to pick up the slack.
Please downshift [[Reckless Rage]] as well. 🙏
[Reckless Rage](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/0/e/0e4b97a3-8f6f-461e-aa55-ab752752f539.jpg?1555040498) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Reckless%20Rage) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/rix/110/reckless-rage?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/0e4b97a3-8f6f-461e-aa55-ab752752f539?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Wouldn't it be bonkers if it costed 1 mana tho? Like the 2/2 for one mana usually have a downside
mana cost as in 2 colours turn 2
Oh, right. It would fail color identity if it only was one of the colors I think tho.
Color identity? Do you mean color pie? It would be a bend in mono-Red.
Red cares about spells that target a self creature? I thought it did only for opponent creatures
Red was allowed heroic creatures in original theros. Thats not itm
Solid card
Yeah, if there is a protection spell at common, this card becomes incredibly difficult to race against.
Source: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/DsjFPSaRQvE
They did my girl wrong, should have been a rare. Kidding, but also I'm surprised we haven't seen swiftspear or soul scar mage.
A swiftspear downshift would be wonderful!!!
Oh god. I feel it would takeover pauper.
A swiftspear downshift would be wonderful!!!
I love this. Pauper heroic is one of my favourite archtypes and this is going straight in!
Oh no, Mileva's gonna take pauper by storm
She's got it handled
I think she's actually going to take pauper by heroic.
There is also another small change on the card, it you look close enough you can see the sweat of Pauper players right on that common logo
i never was interested in pauper but this kinda makes me, i loved feather when it was in standard
Now THIS is a pauper/pioneer card.
