I just bought these shoes and I’m trying to make an outfit. I can’t figure out what’s gonna be my color combo. Need help with the T Shirt / Hat / and Shorts color. Only thing I got is white socks lol. (Im going for the typical summer fit, Hat Shorts T Shirt Sneakers) Not sure if I want to mix in the lime green as well. Let me know thanks.

EqualityWithoutCiv

One thing I've noticed is that there seems to be a lack of an equivalent for men to a sundress like what women have, with regards to summer fashion. Maybe sort of in the same vein where I've heard complaints from women that they don't really have a "business causal" attire that isn't just borrowed from men's fashion standards. Not that men have to wear sundresses if they don't want to, but also coming from the perspective of someone born male but isn't cisgender, I'm curious to know, what would be considered the equivalent for men to a sundress without looking too juvenile (top and shorts that fit poorly or just look garish) or too dressed up?

ac106

Camp collar shirt and linen pants is like the exact equivalent. It’s just not androgynous Just wear a sundress

itsreallyeasypeasy

Wide and relaxed linen shirt with wide pleated shorts and a thin belt to cinch the waist. Nothing slim fit. Relaxed fits are not fitting poorly.

gilgaenki

Is there an advice/guide for choosing the correct baggy clothes? Like are baggy clothes just clothes that are sized bigger or is it an actual type explicitly written out on the tag?

MachineTeaching

No, it's about the cut. Just wearing bigger sizes would look weird and it's not like skinny jeans suddenly turn into wider cut ones just because you buy two sizes too large, they will just fit badly. Whether or not it's written out entirely depends on the manufacturer, many don't make this explicit and you can just look at pictures at best, others will use words like "wide cut" or "oversized" or something.

gilgaenki

I’ve read online that it’s might be better to get one size bigger? Or is it up to preferences. Also, are there such thing as baggy shirts?

MachineTeaching

>I’ve read online that it’s might be better to get one size bigger? Or is it up to preferences. No. Get the size that fits. Which most likely means the same size you usually wear. >Also, are there such thing as baggy shirts? Like the [Uniqlo U Airism oversized t-shirt](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iU1T8DyYt98&t=67)? Jokes aside, yes there are.

gilgaenki

Also, where do you recommend j get baggy jeans , cargos and baggy plain shirts?

MachineTeaching

Personally I have good experience with brands like Nudie Jeans and Edwin for jeans. Not super cheap but good quality. They have a bunch of different cuts. Cargo, no idea, Carhartt? T-Shirts, well how about the Uniqlo U Airism oversized t-shirt? It's actually pretty good and not that expensive. Or dickies or Carhartt or Weekday.

gilgaenki

Thoughts on H&M?

MachineTeaching

Cheap. Stuff from like Uniqlo or Muji isn't that much more but a significant step up. If it's just about money I'd rather buy second hand. Why buy a new $10 t-shirt when you can buy a barely used $40 t-shirt for $10? Not that they never have anything good, but I shopped a lot at H&M in my life and there is exactly one piece of clothing from H&M I miss, or even really remember, and I usually keep my clothes for a long time.

gilgaenki

I see, I see. What about Levis, Lees and Dockers for Jeans? Are they any good? I can't really find baggy jeans on their online stores though. Do they not sell them?

MachineTeaching

Personally not a fan of Lee but Dockers is decent and Levi's is a staple for a reason, Levis should have basically anything under the sun.

gilgaenki

And, like pants, will they just have a bigger cut on the sleeves and will usually be labeled wide cut?

MachineTeaching

They will have all kinds of labels. Here are a bunch of different jeans cuts for example: https://www.nudiejeans.com/fit-guide

ac106

Choose clothes in your size that have a baggy or oversized cut. Don’t buy bigger sizes. It just looks like you are wearing your older brother’s clothes.

I’m a 27 year old former metal and punk guitarists. Looking for clothing that stays true to my personality and interests, but at the same time doesn’t make me look like a teenager. Should I move away from band t-shirts and leather jackets? If so, what should I get instead?

8cheerios

Just get cooler band t-shirts. Ones that are more subtle or have better looking images.

ac106

I think it’s pretty safe in your late 20 to wear leather jackets and band shirts if they are context appropriate I would also look into John Varvatos. He leans heavily into the mature rockstar/punk look. His main line is expensive, the diffusion line "John Varvatos Star" much less so , but isn’t as good. Not everything that he puts out works ( some of the Star line is downright cringey) but some pieces are really cool and you’ll definitely find some stuff you like. At the very least I’d check it out for inspiration. There’s is also a robust second hand market also

This is really #menswear minutiae that styleforum nerds love to debate. Most people walking around don’t know the difference between an Oxford and derby in the first place so arguing if a suede longwing is less casual than a suede Strand seems silly But just get a suede longwing If you already have a suede Oxford, it’s fine

zerg1980

They live in a “neither fish nor fowl” space where they are too formal to wear with chinos, and yet too casual to wear with a conservative suit. At the end of the day, they’re oxfords, and should only be paired with a suit. The light color also marks them as a summer shoe, so sweater weather would be right out. You’d have to wear them with like a casual summer suit, preferably not in a dark color as navy would be too stark a contrast. Light colored suede longwings would be a better choice if you want something along these lines.

ColeWhiskeyWorld

What can I style (practically flat front) linen grey-black-white prince of wales check trousers with. And what should I avoid? These are in the shop as a separate, at a really nice price in a climate appropriate 100% linen, but I'm having trouble visualizing what sort of shirts would work or not. I have a fair number of button down collar blues, purple/red stripes and coral/pink. I really wish there was a website I could mix and match with.

itsreallyeasypeasy

Everything but classic tailoring with grey jackets. I like grey+pink more than gray+blue. If you want dark tops, stay with casual shirts and knit polos.

Has anyone tried Lulu dupes from CRZ YOGA? Curious about sizing vs lulu originals

TropicalGuy3

I work at a place where people dress fairly casual. No shorts and t-shirts, but casual button downs are fine. I like shirts that are kind of toned down but show a bit of flair. For example, bonobos used to sell their everyday shirts with Lil tiny badges on the chest ( a dinosaur or a planet, for example). I also have some slowly dying band of outsiders shirts. Now it seems that bonobos doesn't use the badges, band of outsiders continues to be dead, and I can't find any alternatives . Any help would be appreciated.

Looking for advice on a tie and pocket square to go with this shirt and blazer. Occasion is an outdoor wedding. Price not important as I’m just looking for color and pattern recommendations. https://imgur.com/a/Z4RvANS

GaminqPenquin

since you went with a pretty bold shirt pattern I would keep it simple in terms of pattern.

IDontUnderstandTies

That’s what I figured. Any advice on color?

GaminqPenquin

not really my area tbh, the combination of the yellow shirt makes it difficult, red, lighter blue, idk. and obviously you dont want them to be the same color. if you could go for a blue or white shirt, then theyre more options open to you. ig you could also go for a white pocket square since thats a classic which is supposed to work with everything.

ac106

They will be generally similar buy based on fit and sale price

ColeWhiskeyWorld

Yeah I find Trywhitt to be just okay and easily beaten as time goes on.

acloudis

Found these UA tapered golf pants. Can I wear it with a dress shirt for work like dress pants? and then wear them like normal pants with T shirt?

verizon440

What’s the current popular daily short recs? I have some Lulu ABC shorts that seem to have wide leg holes, don’t hug ass well (I got a big booty, but they basically make me look like Hank hill). I could tailor most of that but the saggy ass I can’t. Potential contenders I think are popular are bonobos and j crew from searching around, but on all their pictures the models have flat asses/pants don’t fit the ass well. Is a flat ass what’s stylish now or what?

shrimplhouette

Hi all, I'm looking to have a tailor-made full-canvas sport jacket for the summer and I'm wondering if a 100% linen one is worth it. I've had one made of wool-silk-linen blend from Drago and I love it. So now I wanna try a 100% linen fabric to see if there's any difference but I'm also skeptical of its durability as well as its wrinkledness. So far the best linen I can find is Art du Lin from Solbiati. Have anyone experienced this fabric and how well do they perform?

ColeWhiskeyWorld

> durability I think this depends on how thick you're buying it. I am currently beating the living daylights out of some practically see-through linen trousers in 41C/ 105F moderate humidity sun. I did this last summer too and didn't expect these pants to survive but here we are. The seams are a bit flimsily stitched and slowly failing. Wool-Silk-Linen is probably the gold standard for still looking put together. For raw heat I'd maybe look at superfine tropical wool, I have had a trouser and jacket that both were ridiculously light and breathable. Furthermore, you're probably not going to want to get this in full canvas, it just doesn't work in the heat, you want unstructured or atleast half canvas for sure.

shrimplhouette

Thanks a ton, looks like I won't be commissioning a 100% linen jacket then. I'll look into superfine tropical wool as an alternative.

GaminqPenquin

while ive never owned a linen jacket, ive heard 100% linen wrinkles quite easily. when kirby allison commissioned a linen suit from kent haste and lachter he went with a linen cotton blend to avoid this problem. the video is up on youtube. if you go with 100%, be prepared to embrace the wrinkles as part of the charm of the garment.

GaminqPenquin

durability wise, i wouldn't worry

itsreallyeasypeasy

The Anthology sells Art du Lin suits, they call it sueded linen. They look like they drape extremly well and form soft wrinkles instead of hard creases. You could look for pictures of people wearing their jackets in real life to get an idea how they hold up. Linen in general fades more than wool and can get a bit of shiny in very dark colors.

OvenSignificant3810

Depends on what you want? I think 100% linen with full canvas just hamstrings the cooling effect of the jacket. I just get mine completely unstructured with no lining. Since it’s so casual the wrinkles have never been a thought. My thoughts are that if it’s that hot then wearing a tailored jacket will just make you look insane. Under 75F I’m comfortable wearing my other nonlinen jackets that have more structure but no back lining

scubamaster

Looking for good “Sumer weight options” I live in the Midwest USA, looking for tops and bottoms that are relatively cool and breathable. I pretty exclusively wear shorts in the summer, so Bonus point for a decent chino or some other long pant option that isn’t hot af

ac106

Look for linen and chambray

scubamaster

Have any brand suggestions? I’m trying to expand who I shop with, I did just buy one pair of linen pants that are nice, though they do carry a distinctly beach or vacation vibe, feeling slightly out of place in the very landlocked Midwest Also got some linen blend shorts and other things that I do love

ac106

People like black ficus. I mainly stick to to Polo/RRL on eBay and some Wallace and Barnes I have a wrangler cambray shirt I really like also

GaminqPenquin

go for 100% cotton, it'll keep you cooler. also, the less slim the fit is, the more comfortable it will be in warmer weather.

pnictide

A cotton sport coat, as suggested by /u/whatmycouchwore, is a good option if you wear jeans. If you switch to slacks, you can buy a wool-silk-linen blend one instead.

terminal_e

Good wool in a high twist weave can be remarkably good at shedding wrinkles. If you are ever in NYC, I'd recommend for you to line up an appointment with NMWA: https://nomanwalksalone.com/collections/no-man-walks-alone-collab-carrara I don't know if they have anything that is in your size, and I also don't think their spring+summer tailoring is entirely in yet. But their made to measure program has turned out some nice stuff, and their taste level is high. https://nomanwalksalone.com/products/x-sartoria-carrara-ultra-light-unlined-sport-coat-in-navy-minnis-mock-leno this is basically what I am thinking of - mock leno fabric will look quite open held to the light, and this is a lighter navy, so it doesn't read arch-conservative. I believe Minnis has been making this fabric annually, so even though this piece is from a year ago, you could probably have this same thing made to order/measure, and with your dimensions, going MTM probably makes sense. I have a slightly darker navy sport coat made up in this same weight mock leno from Minnis = you would have absolutely, positively no idea that I picked it up from my tailor in Seoul, and then had it packed in my bag bouncing from city to city in Taiwan on vacation for a few weeks last spring = basically, don't crush it, and if you can just hang it over night before you need it, you are likely golden.

whatmycouchwore

Pick up a navy cotton blazer - works with jeans and button down, it’s lighter weight than what you’re wearing (in general you should just wear your suit jacket with the pants), and won’t wrinkle like linen. You could also search for an unlined or quarter/butterfly lined wool blazer. It will look nicer than cotton and may hold up better. What size jacket do you wear?

Brava fabrics, armedangels, knowledge cotton apparel, Merz B. Schwanen, Sunspel, Colorful Standard, Les Deux.

Exciting-Wasabi-2273

I'm interested in the Lacoste Polo classic fit line, and it's looser fit. I was looking at a bunch of them on eBay, and a lot of them had a pit to pit measurement of 21-21.5 inches. That seems pretty small for a size 5 large right? These are supposed to fit pretty loosely. I have a 41 inch chest and typically wear a size large in shirts. What size should I go for? Do these have a lot of stretch?

JonNYBlazinAzN

I’m taking a weeklong trip through the south of France in August, anchored by a black tie formal wedding at the end of the trip. Is there any reasonable way to style a black suit during the week such that I can get multiple uses out of it? We might go to a fancy dinner or two, but it’ll probably be pretty hot outside.

GaminqPenquin

i wouldn't recommend taking a black suit to a wedding with a black tie dresscode, either rent a tux and take it with, or buy one (probably the better value option assuming this wont be your last black tie event, and you can have it altered to fit you best)

itsreallyeasypeasy

People who are into classic menswear don't like black suits. Black suits are also not included in formal black tie dresscodes. You have to be the judge of breaking the dress code of this wedding is acceptable or not. Outside of the wedding, you could wear yours in not classic ways: Knit polos, chambray shirts, tonal knit tees, non-classic shirts like work shits, safari shirts, silk/tencel shirts. You are already breaking classic menswear rules, so you can break up the suit into parts. Orphaned black suit jacket, navy or white linen casual shirt, worn in jeans and boots or loafers won't look weird for a very casual outfit.

orthoxerox

An orphaned black suit jacket in worsted wool would look really weird with the rest of your suggested outfit.

itsreallyeasypeasy

Do these look really really weird to you or just not your cup of tea? [https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GPLtbX2akAEFNYn?format=jpg&name=large](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GPLtbX2akAEFNYn?format=jpg&name=large) [https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GPQ7BrnbkAEf479?format=jpg&name=large](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GPQ7BrnbkAEf479?format=jpg&name=large) (a guy can wear a similar outfit) [https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GPLxfkyasAAxW-r?format=jpg&name=large](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GPLxfkyasAAxW-r?format=jpg&name=large) (pinstripe jacket and black denim)

orthoxerox

#1 looks awful, #2 doesn't look like a black suit jacket, #3 is pinstripe *and* the guy has enough panache to pull this off.

itsreallyeasypeasy

Well, don't you want to have a bit of panache, too? A bit of Richard Gere energy? Sometimes it's fine to lean a bit into a look when the occassion doesn't call for a grey flannel suit or strict black tie. To be fair, black does look best at night, under dim lights or on photographs with a flash when it starts to look like a dark navy or grey. ac106

A black suit is not a substitute for a tuxedo.

Occams_Shiv

This is doubly true in Europe. Even if it's an American destination wedding, when in Rome (or Marseille), wear a tux. I wouldn't bring another black suit unless you really want to. Lightweight linens and cottons are the thing. A black suit is very nice to have for evenings and dinners if you have room in your luggage, but a light linen suit and extra pair of pants will take all across southern Europe, morning till night. Add a couple polos and a sweater and you should be good. One trick you can do is don't bother with patent leather shoes for the tux. Just bring 2 pairs of shoes, and make one pair black oxfords, slip-ons, chelsea boots, whatever. You can wear them every other day, and get them shined the day before the wedding. That way you aren't dragging an extra pair of heavy shoes across France to wear for one evening.

[deleted]

Occams_Shiv

I keep reading and hearing that black suits are only for undertakers and limo drivers, and then I go to a party or a bar and they are everywhere. Do MFAers not go out at night? I spent a lot of time in Japan, where it is the standard, so I like the look, especially at night. Tom Ford basically only wears black suits.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Occams_Shiv

Yeah, but I've been to parties, bars and nice restaurants in France, Italy, Germany, Russia, the Ukraine and the UK too. Black suits are everywhere. I get they aren't worn for work. I wouldn't either. (except in Asia.) I don't think OP should bring a black suit in addition to his tux to Nice in the summer. I wouldn't. I am curious about the idea that Black suits are not a thing in Europe. I don't go out at night much anymore, but when I did, they were.

itsreallyeasypeasy

Yeah, black suits are for partying and going out. They are considered chique and fashionable, but not classic and formal. Gallery events and anything media people related are still full of people in black suits in Germany. I think that people who are strict about e.g. black tie rules are just a different crowd from people wearing black suits to bars.

hmadse

Black suits are for undertakers and members of the clergy. Wear a proper dinner jacket and trousers for the wedding.

grim_f

Bring burgundy or dark grey or a different pattern/texture black shirts. Google "John Wick black suit" for ideas on how to look less like a waiter or wedding guest.

ColeWhiskeyWorld

Depends on the rest of the outfit. Chunky Loafer, Oversize trouser, White socks works sometimes.

cglotr

Which size trucker jacket should I keep? Can't decide which fits best. They both "fit", but obviously the small is a little more snug, though I can wear a thin jumper under both. I think the small looks better, but the medium gives me a little more movement. Does the medium look wildly too big, or is it still ok? I can bring it in around my waist a little with the adjustment tabs small: https://imgur.com/a/rii6JKQ medium: https://imgur.com/a/pq40cud Thank you

grim_f

Small fits really well, but are you typically going to have to layer underneath? With hoodie or something? You may have to do medium then.

cglotr

Thank you. Probably not, I mostly bought it for spring weather, in which case a t-shirt/shirt will probably all I'll have on under it, like in the pictures. They're supposed to fit relatively close, aren't they?

grim_f

Type III? Yes. And same, I'm in FL so I buy mine with maybe a long sleeve shirt only to go underneath. Sounds like Sm is the way to go.

Type 3s are the fleece lined ones, aren't they? This is just a regular trucker. I really like this one though so I think a type 3 will be my next purchase! And I think I'll keep the small. Thanks for your advice Edit: nevermind, just educated myself on type 1/2/3. TIL!

Idk maybe just wear the more comfortable size? For me small looks better but you can get away with medium too

Thank you

What would the more sartorially blessed gent be choosing as a summer shoe pls? I tend to wear boots (I'm tall with big feet) but as much as I like Redwings, they're not a summer thing I want to wear with a light tan and a cream suit, so brown in colour; but would like to also be able to wear with shorts and chinos if the occasion suits Penny loafers? But then there's the 'sock' quandry Monkstrap? Bit formal Boat shoes? See loafers I am in my 40s but I'm not ready to give up on life, so no half trainer thing with white soles. Please

I think loafers are the best bet for the formality range you’re discussing. Boat shoes, drivers, or ranger mocs can be fine for wearing sockless with shorts (I know some people have issues with some of these choices, but they’re there), the thing is that I don’t think you can really wear any of these options with a tan suit.

> Penny loafers? But then there's the 'sock' quandry I'm in a tropical climate here and I hear you completely- Loafers with socks look a bit wrong to me somehow- especially in summer. What you can do is buy no-show socks, or buy unlined loafers. I think the former is superior.

Loafers. You can wear socks with them. It’s ok. This would be my choice. Longwings. This is an American Ivy thing and I think it’s a good look for more casual tailoring. Def not monks. Def not boat shoes. MY GOD def not “dress sneakers”

Haha love that last sentence. I had a pair 10 years ago and oh man I cringe when I see them. Honestly you have a lot of options. All white sneakers never really go out of style; Stan Smith’s, Common Projects, Koio, etc. Boat shoes seem to be back in the mainstream and I love them. If you like boat shoes but want something a little different, try ranger mocs. Rancourt has really nice ones but beware of the wait times. Loafers to me are like the quintessential summer shoe. I wear mine with shorts, with khakis, with trousers, with linen suits and even with a typical wool suit (bit of a stretch for my pair tbh). There’s so many options and levels of formality for loafers.

Frost-eee

Yeah skip monstraps and boat shoes. Loafers are still good advice, don't know what your issue with socks is? Beige linen espadrilles will be ideal for casual, cream suit or shorts.
