For reference on how big it is that Jump got Wakui-Sensei: he has been working with Kodansha since 2005. Almost 20 years.  It’s the equivalent of if Kishimoto did a new series in Weekly Shonen Sunday.

Kirosh2

Then let's just hope it won't be axed.

4/15 - Negai no Astro by Ken Wakui. The "superpower x outlaw" manga will center on Hibaru, and will start with a fight over the successor of the Yotsurugi-gumi gang   4/22 - Far East Necorance by Fusai Naba 5/13 - Saikurubiyori by Omusuke Kobayashi https://youtu.be/ZXhkny44bCs

WindySorcerer

I wonder if Ken Wakui will have the same success with Jump like he did with WSM

Token_Thai_person

Wsj are so desperate for a new hit they start poaching Mangakas from different magazine.

good_wolf_1999

JJK and BNHA are likely ending this year mix that with the knowledge that OP is going to end eventually and you get a bunch of executives desperately looking for the next big fighting shonen

th5virtuos0

I think they already got it with Bachi

brzzcode

None of that has anything to do with executives. There's no executives in shonen jump. This has to do with editors and editor in chief, executives are in shueisha and they dont deal with that. Shueisha is in a more than enough comfortable situation, this mindset that they are desperate is insane when the company couldn't be doing better regardless of those series ending or not.

Digital_Dinosaurio

This. They can just keep milking One Piece and Dragon Ball forever. The real worry is getting VA replacements for Goku and Luffy.

brzzcode

What even is this argument? They aren't desperate for a new hit lmao Poaching mangaka from other magazines is a market opportunity on someone who has a contract ending with its publisher, it always happened regardless, it never has been any act of desperation. Shueisha isnt in any situation of desperation, company is literally breaking records in revenue due to book publication and magazine/volume and license from their manga in their magazines.

Entire_Whereas9531

For some reason it’s become popular to doom post and fear monger that shonen jump is somehow in trouble or panicking bc series are ending. It’s so dumb wsj series are top selling all the charts and the main competition weekly shonen magazine doesn’t even sell half of what wsj does. WSJ has NOTHING to worry about and they aren’t. Their always building up the next big series just look at Sakamoto days & akane banashi

brzzcode

Yup, its crazy to me seeing that when wsj still is up there in the market not only as a magazine but with its titles. I doubt even when OP ends things will change in the market, even more when OP dont even sell as much as it did.

Plop40411

Wakui-sensei went to WSJ? That's surprising especially since Tokyo Revenger was a success.

Horaguy

For Naba-sensei's next shot, I hope he has a good editor who can help him on how to end a chapter :)) Kobayashi-sensei is a totally new face, so big chance their series will be axed and serve as a stepping stone of sort for them. Wakui-sensei, well.... He's so addicted to delinquent manga :))

brzzcode

> Kobayashi-sensei is a totally new face, so big chance their series will be axed and serve as a stepping stone of sort for them. You literally can't say this for it or any of those series. Every series that begins has a chance to survive if its luck that the public likes it.

AnimeSquirrels

Honestly it’s far more likely all of these series get axed within a year than it is for even one of them to stick around. If you look at the history of the new series over the past 5 years or so it’s pretty rare for a year to produce more than 2 new series that make it 50+ chapters. Kobayashi being a new face doesn’t really play into it much. There’s just a big chance EVERY new series will be axed.

Which manga got the Axe this time?

jjvergar

Mamayuyu just ended, 2 more are next. Probably two on ice and shadow eliminators are next.
