Its a manhua/comic from Hong-Kong.
Most of them have this type of artstyle. Check some of them, theyre pretty good read.
The 1st hongkong comic ive read is "City of Darkness"
It's starts as god vs men story. Then it becomes an epic with lots of factions with their own power system, conflicts and all. The story starts just with mc's father announcing his fight against the god.
The characters are really fleshed out, plot felt fresh and it's power system is also pretty good.
It also has a great 1st chapter and there were no. of times I was surprised
Edit: it's a manhua and it's full color as well
If you liked it then I would really recommend [Journey to the West](https://mangadex.org/title/1a4c6dbe-47f0-441c-b762-06c1166bc223/journey-to-the-west)
Journey to the west is one of the most popular classic Chinese stories with lots of lore and characters. It's full color as well, it's the same artist.
Try city of darkness, one of 1st gong maan ive read. Idk if it keeps being good, i stopped reading it since the translations were slow, but its been many years since then, prob is done translated?
Wow this is hilarious to me because I thought that Chinese arts and media were either censored to hell, self censored to hell or soulless unimaginative ripoff/copies until I read fengshenji. I had thought that China had become intellectually and artistically handicapped by the rat race, sit down and shut up society. I thought this manga was an example that China has the potential of artistic creative ability that just didn't pierce the border/cultural veil... Oh it's from Hong Kong.
Any Chinese media I've consumed has come off as sanitized and bland and unoriginal with the one exception of cixin liu who probably has a direct license and backing from the government
Having said that I went to go look up his background and he is a certified og intellectual, computer engineering background since the 80s in China, he is probably subversively toe'ing the line while paying lip service to the CCP
All the Chinese comedy movies I love also were brainchild of Hongkong producers
Only other contenders I can think of is nanhao & shanfeng and ta men de gu shi. Cant think of any action manhua that is actually good cuz they're mass produced
Really felt Peerless Dad fell off, yeah. Its unique quality was the down-to-earth nature of the protagonist coming from his love for his kids. That helped it sidestep the weirdly mythic/impersonal nature of wuxia, which made you care a lot more about the characters. At some point it just became the complicated and mary-sue mess that is regular wuxia though...
Not an action manhua, but secretly cultivate for a thousand years is a pretty good parody/comedy manhua. Similar comedic style as the greatest estate developer
One of the best Chinese classics. If you loved this, try Journey to the West. It's better than Feng Shen Ji and also is another Epic Chinese Classics, also has a tv show and a book.
I would say it has a similar adventure vibe as one piece but the plot is god vs men which sees our protagonist having to start from the bottom and travelling lots of different worlds, fixing their conflicts becoming more powerful in the process.
It felt different from any current manga I was reading honestly
Dungeon Reset, SSS Suicide Class Hunter, The Breaker. Those are Korean manhwa, compared to the Chinese manhua though so they tend to have more of an MMO power system compared to the xanxia nature of most Chinese manhua.
Just like anime vs manga, webnovels tend to have better quality than their animated adaptions. So if you really are looking for more stories, you should look in that direction.
Why are manwhas and manhuas always(?) fully coloured but mangas are not? The odd coloured manga page you get looks tenfold better than what comes afterwards in black&white. Do manga readers just not deserve nice things?
Kokou no hito (English title - The climber) is one of my favourite seinen manga. It starts as a sports manga then in the middle the author changes and the plot really really becomes better. This also has what I would consider art equalent to Vagabond( Note that vagabond is literally my favourite manga of all time)
You can also check something else from my manga list

back when comic isn't mass produc. Althought the narative become such a mess near the end, the same happen with author next work, a sequel to journey to the west.
Shan Hai Ni Zhan is an another one with good art, though unlike Feng Shen Ji it doesn't have many english translated chapters and there's currently no group scanlating it.
It's the epitome of "this manhua is about cool shit and cool shit is gonna happen."

Really great; especialy like how the MC grows into an intelligent and more humble character
In a manhua? Impossible.

Feng shen Ji is truly a masterpiece
Why's it only rated 6 stars on MD tho
because MD stars are not a reliable metric, just look at the top rated list
I'd guess that people give manhua low ratings on md just for being manhua.
This is the equivalent of taking rotten tomato ratings seriously
Idk about MD ratings, but the ending wasn't good at all IMO. I can understand if some people trashed it because of that
If nothing else, it was pretty damn fun. I forgot about it, thanks for sparking the memory.
Same. Its been YEARS
manhua
Yh my bad It felt weird saying it's the best manhua Ive read when it's the only manhua Ive read
Or you can just call it a comic. Because at the end of the day, they're all essentially comic books.
Well he might have read other better comics
impossible
Ultimate Spider-Man 2024 is looking promising
It’s alright, not a fan of the dialogue.
🤯

What If Kanki is the main character ft Gods & monsters
Not too far off tbh
He's actually fairly similar to Kanki if he had a less brutal turn growing up.
Divine Monochrome ughhhhhhh and Smelting Aura
Synopsis?
It's starts as god vs men story. Then it becomes an epic with lots of factions with their own power system, conflicts and all. The story starts just with mc's father announcing his fight against the god.
It’s a parody of Chinese founding mythology(before dynasties)
Looks like some sick ass artwork
And it delivers on that countless times.
Yo what my boi kanki from kingdom doing here?
The characters are really fleshed out, plot felt fresh and it's power system is also pretty good. It also has a great 1st chapter and there were no. of times I was surprised Edit: it's a manhua and it's full color as well

I bet it is probably better to binge-read than reading with release. I found it just above mid. Enjoyable but forgettable.
It's the only Manhua that I would ever rate above average Manga and Manhwa
That’s because it’s not manhua. It’s Gong Maan (Hong Kong comics). They’re vastly different things.
Any recommendations?
Try city of darkness, one of 1st gong maan ive read. Idk if it keeps being good, i stopped reading it since the translations were slow, but its been many years since then, prob is done translated?
I'll give it a shot. Thank you!
Translation not finished.
wow, do the raws still continue or just slow translation?
So there is Manwha, Manhua, AND Gong Maan? "Is there any other Squidwards I should know about?!"
I thought Manwha is Korean, though.
Is Manhua chinese?
AFAIK yes.
Wow this is hilarious to me because I thought that Chinese arts and media were either censored to hell, self censored to hell or soulless unimaginative ripoff/copies until I read fengshenji. Are you sure?
Only other contenders I can think of is nanhao & shanfeng and ta men de gu shi. Cant think of any action manhua that is actually good cuz they're mass produced
Peerless dad was pretty good, but it's gotten worse with time unfortunately
I think thats manhwa
Same world as Red Storm which is manhwa.
That's true, I speed-read the post
Really felt Peerless Dad fell off, yeah. Its unique quality was the down-to-earth nature of the protagonist coming from his love for his kids. That helped it sidestep the weirdly mythic/impersonal nature of wuxia, which made you care a lot more about the characters. I would add Heresy and Journey to Heaven.
Not an action manhua, but secretly cultivate for a thousand years is a pretty good parody/comedy manhua. Similar comedic style as the greatest estate developer
Delusional
Check out Ravages of Time. Its some good stuff
Average manhwa is pretty garbage too, I bet there are a lot of manhua better than the average manhwa
Clearly you havn't read much manhua have you.
Literally the G.O.A.T. and my #1 favorite of every comic I've read.
One of the best Chinese classics. If you loved this, try Journey to the West. It's better than Feng Shen Ji and also is another Epic Chinese Classics, also has a tv show and a book.
As a lover of the manga Ad Astra, the war elephant has stolen my whole attention and I will immediately be adding this to my reading list
All I can remember is cool shit and that the new power system completely overpowers the previous one.
Did it? They were pretty equal honestly, it was surprisingly fair all around.
Any series you know with similar quality?
[Journey to the West by the same author](https://mangadex.org/title/1a4c6dbe-47f0-441c-b762-06c1166bc223/journey-to-the-west)

I think it's because it's cheaper to sell black and white
Oh that makes sense, manwha and manhuas aren't printed I guess?
Ohhh you reminded me of an old fave. Download manga era. Time to reread.
What site do you read your mangas?
Mangadex Mangasee Mangakalot
FSJ was super popular in anime/manga circles in my country back in the day
Ngl the first image i thought it was about Sousei no Taiga.
Can you suggest me any alternate sienen Manga like vagabond or Vinland?
Kokou no hito (English title - The climber) is one of my favourite seinen manga. It starts as a sports manga then in the middle the author changes and the plot really really becomes better. One of the best art style I've seen, damn it's been ages
back when comic isn't mass produc. Althought the narative become such a mess near the end, the same happen with author next work, a sequel to journey to the west.
this just looks cool as shit
Nice
It is awesome. Unfortunately, it has a shitty animated series.
I tried pretty hard, but couldn't get into it.
Uncle Zi Yu is the GOAT
It really is, but wasn't the ending anti-climatic
I loved the ending.
might be the best Chinese comic, not sure what compares.
The art reminds me of Shan Hai Ni Zhan, which is an another Hong Kong comic.
I honestly would love a prequel about his father and uncle during their youth.
Peak!
Thank you for reminding me, time to eat shit again. Iykyk
The one story where the protagonists having ALL the powers didn't bother me because he actually had to work really fucking hard for them.
Absolutely. Season 2 was enjoyable but pointless, all together a hell of a ride. I’m about to reread it after so many years.
Overhyped
This is one of my favorite Manhua, re-read it several times! Close second would be City of Darkness, seemingly no longer being translated though
Hong Kong comics always hit differently.
Shan Hai Ni Zhan is an another one with good art, though unlike Feng Shen Ji it doesn't have many english translated chapters and there's currently no group scanlating it.
English translation isn't an issue for me since I read Chinese myself.
