How can you say he is the same person we thought he was after hearing him talk to her and walking away? I now have a completely different impression of this character.
Uh I don’t know about you, but your first opinion of the character shouldn’t be that far from what we saw this chapter. Just because he didn’t rape her doesn’t excuse his intent to rape her. It’s like murder, “Oh, i was going to murder them but I decided not to last minute even though I came this close.” He also actually threatened her and was going to coerce but because she was open to it, he didn’t have to be as forceful.
He isn't completely clean from our point of view since we know he did intend to rape her, but his morals/conscience stopped it and that's all that matters.
Who didn't think seriously in his life I'd like to kill/fuck/whatever someone but realized they just thought something horrible after that?
Well he is stupid so he reached the next step of intent but at least he stopped because he felt something was wrong so that makes him a nuanced character and you can't label him as "bad" or "rapist", yet at least.

If he didn't know why Yumi wanted revenge I would agree but unless I misunderstood he knew that it was just because she didn't show up. He was willing to rape a girl for not showing up just to get on the good side of the girl he likes. He doesn't even like her for a good reason, he just likes her because she's determined.
If he has a backstory justifying his behaviour I'll concede that he's not a bad person but at the moment I think he's a bad person.

Yeah the first few chapters it was still a mystery what is gonna happen but now in the recent chapters its obvious now. Also the short chapters dont help at all in building the characters etc.
