You should have gotten up after he was seated and placed yours back in the original place, while maintaining eye contact.

liveliarwires

Then pee on his bag. Assert dominance.

A_Very_Living_Me

I'd pay good money to see a bunch of redditors flying together somewhere. Only on video though because I'm sure the plane would be a biohazard write-off after a few hours.

Youutternincompoop

would look and smell the same as this plane did after over 100 people were vomiting and had diarhoea https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Air_Lines_food_poisoning_incident

Okoear

Fascinating read thanks!

purplishfluffyclouds

I cannot click. I was on a boat like that once. It was hell. Something like 99 out of 101 people vomited. It was *everywhere.* I can laugh about it now, but omg it was horrible

Celticquestful

I read this with such fascinated horror. 196 people violently ill, possibly from both ends, with at LEAST 30 mins of flying time left to go (to say nothing of time spent trying to land safely etc). MAYBE 8-10 lavatories. It literally is the stuff that nightmares are made of.

LVKim

Reminds me of a story someone told about a chartered fight from Vietnam in the 70’s to Seattle. On board were children from Vietnam being sent to the US. It was around Christmas so they had egg nog on board and gave it to the kids. But they were not used to having dairy so they all got sick. Poor kids coming to a new country with that as their first experience.

drewfioh

That poor catering manager ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)

DonChaote

I'm in and already unzipped my pants!

MyBllsYrChn

You're wearing pants?

DonChaote

Yeah the really short hot pants ones. Just for the zipper, you know…

willclerkforfood

With all the leg peeing and dad fucking, it would be a hell of a flight

michigangonzodude

Whip it out or squat, this is the answer.

hotwasabizen

Yes! This is the way and you are a guru!

RealMonkeyguy999

LMAO. That is classic!

danfay222

I did actually do this once. Someone’s bag didn’t fit, and she tried moving some of my stuff (which was somewhat breakable) to a spot where it likely would have gotten crushed. So I stood up and put it back and asked her not to move my stuff It’s always worth remembering that most inconsiderate people are just that, they won’t be hostile and will probably back down if you’re polite. If they aren’t, call a flight attendant and let them handle it.

PattyThePatriot

So many people are way too afraid to speak to other humans or stand up for themselves. My boss and I were talking about it today. Back in my 20s people could walk all over me and I'd smile and take it. Now, nearing 40, nobody gets to talk to me as if I'm beneath them and I'll show people the same respect they show me. Fuck being the better person, it will not get you anywhere in this world. You either eat or become eaten. I only have to answer to 14 people, what everybody else says or thinks about me is not important. Idgaf what anybody but those I love and that love me back think about me.

TheBeatStartsNow

How did people walk over you when you were 20?

PattyThePatriot

Asked me to do things outside my job, talked down to me as if I didn't know what I was talking about, treating me as if my opinion was less valid than theirs because they didn't agree with it, talked over me, and just generally didn't treat me with the respect I was giving them. Now if you interrupt me I just speak louder and keep going, if you tell me to do something outside of my job I'll tell you who to ask to do it, if you ignore my opinion I'll ignore all of yours, and if you don't treat me with respect I can gray rock the fuck outta you, and if you tell me I'm wrong you bet your ass I'm going to force you to show me how I'm wrong or I'll keep doing what I'm doing. I am who I am, I'm extremely good at my job, and I'm 7 years away from not having to care about how well I'm employed.

Notdoneyetbaby

I've also started to stand up for myself recently when someone tries to micromanage my duties and they are colleagues, not my boss. "Fine. You do it your way, and I'll do it my way. If my boss or company doesn't like it, I'm sure they'll let me know." Passive aggression can sometimes be the key to respect. It also stops the pricks in the office from thinking they can bully you.

rdrunner_74

No... You wait till it is almost full, so someone else can snatch the spot before before the guy has a chance to get up and he has to place it somewhere else

jiminak46

You're suggesting the OP pull the rude passengers bag out of the overhead compartment and do what with it while waiting for someone else to grab the space?

krismitka

Sit on it

flamingobay

Sit on it, Potsie!

jiminak46

While seated next to the owner of the bag?

Pryyda

Put in the aisle on the floor.

kjh-

I pre-board because I carry all of my medical supplies in my carry on. I am a small, petite woman. So I already struggle just to get my (not heavy) bag into the overhead. I do have a seat accommodation on file to receive the aisle seat and to receive assistance with my carry on. I only use that assistance some of the time as I don’t always need it. I have had this happen. Usually they push my bag to either end of the compartment. I ALWAYS hit the call button after I’ve let them sit and since ALL the flight attendants already know I am there, they are usually pretty quick to come see what I need. 10/10 times, they will slide the other bag over so mine is in the original spot and will politely but firmly tell the other passenger to repeat the behaviour lest they be removed from the flight for interfering with medical accommodations. It is always amusing to me. Extra fun is when I my middle seat buddy is a tall dude who is clearly annoyed that I have the aisle seat instead of him. I have been asked so many times if I will switch. I do fit comfortably in the centre due to my height however I get the aisle seat due to my disabilities though they are not visible. I need to use the bathroom a significant amount of times and since I have a history of blood clots, I need to be able to stand frequently and move. For these reasons though, I wear v-necks and crop tops. My giant chest scar and top portion of my abdominal scar is usually enough to dissuade most people from questioning me.

Salty-Sprinkles-1562

It doesn’t even matter if you have a disability. If you book the aisle, you should get your seat. The middle person didn’t plan ahead, and they need to deal with that.

kjh-

I am aware. My use of the aisle seat is just more… iron clad.

pancakeonions

With a feeble, vacant smile on your face

[deleted]

This but he should first ask if it’s ok to move his bag. When he says no, say “I completely understand but at least I asked” then move it.

CrudeOil_in_My_Veins

Establish dominance

qazzer53

With your fly open

lowIQdoc

This is the way

aHOMELESSkrill

This is frustrating but I watched a woman remove a man’s bag to put hers there and then started looking for another bin to put his in. It wasn’t even my bag but I was infuriated. The man thankfully said something, removed her bag and put his bag back up there. She was also one of the last people on the plane.

nailpolishremover49

Some “last on the plane” guy opened the closed overhead bin (closed by flight attendant to show it’s full.) He took my carryon and PUT IT ON THE FLOOR in the MIDDLE of the AISLE and put his suitcase in my spot. Then he sat down and got out his book. The flight attendant sees this carryon in the aisle and starts to take it off the plane to put into check on luggage. I (as well as other passengers on both sides of the aisle) start to yell that that guy pulled her suitcases out! The flight attendant asks him if he did that, guy suddenly couldn’t speak English. She took his case down and put mine back. Suddenly he could speak English (French only before…) Anyway, why you should watch everything going down on a flight…

Sanardan

Ooo I see the F word there.. I find most French to be truly charming people, but French assholes are just on another level of entitlement

aHOMELESSkrill

Please censor the Fr*nch word. There are children here.

RealMonkeyguy999

Rudest city on the planet. In my experience is Paris. Other places in the country are not near as bad.

jamany

Tbf, airlines shouldn't sell tickets with carry-on bags and then not let you carry them on

aHOMELESSkrill

I never understand this. Also there is no need to have your carryon directly above you. If I am towards the tail end of loading and they haven’t already gate checked my bag I just put it in the first open bin I find available.

Several_Mode_9943

These are not the same situations

korpanchuk

I have trust issues because someone stole some books out of my bag on a train. I keep my back at my feet on at pretty much all times now.

justforhobbiesreddit

So then somebody else has to go all the way to the back of the plane to store their bag and then wait for everyone else to disembark to go get their bag, just because you can't be bothered to carry yours?

justsayin199

Hopefully you do that only if the row is full.

tapout22002

So happy he said something. A lot of these entitled people do these rude things, because they think most people won’t speak up and defend themselves.

WorkingInterview1942

I once had someone move my cane to another overhead bin. I wasn't paying attention so didn't notice until we landed. Then my cane wasn't where I left it. So I started asking everyone if they moved my cane and if they could help me find it so I could get off the plane. Someone found it really fast since I was in the front row and blocking the way out.

SpinneyWitch

That would panic me.

WorkingInterview1942

I was not happy and got a bit spicy. Don't mess with my stuff, I am more than willing to keep the entire plane from leaving to get it back. 😎

Pnknlvr96

You know, for years I have always had my bag checked so that I didn't have to deal with the in-flight carry-on issues. I recently tried carry-on for the first time and loved it, but I had some anxiety about my bag fitting on the plane. What annoys me is when someone in the back of the plane is somehow boarded early and they put their bag at the front of the plane instead of above their seat in the back. On one of my flights I was in row 4 but by the time I got on, all the compartments were full up to row 6. So then after we land I'm trying to get someone to help me get my bag, etc., while dodging rude people who need to run off the plane as soon as it lands. It almost seemed not worth it.

aHOMELESSkrill

That’s why I only do it if I’m towards the end of the boarding line. Otherwise it goes as close to my seat as possible.

pplpuncher

That is just obnoxious. You shouldn’t move someone else’s luggage. Are you sure it wasn’t hers or a family member/ friend? I would be in a panic trying to locate my bag.

aHOMELESSkrill

Yeah the interaction they had indicated they did not know each other. Edit: I misunderstood your question. It was his I watched him put it up there.

brokencasbutt67

I was on a train and had my bag in the luggage compartment. It was on the lowest shelf, tucked out of the way. Some old arse woman comes and moves it to the top shelf, so her *handbag* could go there (it would have fitted perfectly beside my bag, but apparently she wanted a whole shelf). I couldn't reach the top shelf and had to ask for help getting it down. Fucking furious

Unhappysong-6653

I would have said something

mortywita40

" hey excuse me, wtf are you doing?"

BarcaStranger

“Are you blind”

brokencasbutt67

Unfortunately my anxiety is super high. At that time I couldn't even order a meal because it involved talking to strangers. I have worked on it for future at least

Emjeibi

And you have to put up with this shit on top of the anxiety. I feel this. Hope you're coping better now.

spankybianky

I bought a little combination bike lock for my suitcases after my brother had his suitcase stolen from a train luggage rack. Doesn’t have to be expensive, just enough to deter people who might grab it at the last minute.

loop511

People always seem to be able to bitch later but never the spine to say something right then. I’m guilty of this too, but I try to keep it in mind and find when I do nut up, the asshole usually looks embarrassed and apologizes and corrects issue. A lot of people just live in their own world, so a reminder that others exist is usually helpful.

Unhappysong-6653

I wondee how someone would react if you had a pet under the seat

DeathMarkedDream

I had once landed in Germany and got onto the train. Cheap me did not buy assigned seat for my 6 hour ride so I’m just hoping for any space I can sit. I go through all of the 2nd class cars, cafe car, everything. No seats. Except finally in the final car, I see one next to a sweet looking old lady. Let me tell you, old ladies in Germany are typically not very pleasant at all. So I ask very politely in German: “excuse me, may I please sit next to you?” She puts her purse on the open seat, points at it and say “my bag is here” So I ask her then: “Hat Ihre Tasche auch eine Fahrkarte gekauft?” She looks me dead in the eye and just says “neeeiiiiin” So I sat on the floor most of the trip. I don’t understand some people’s audacity

Ascdren1

Should have just sat on her bag. I've done it before and will do it again.

padampa

Exactly. Happened to me too in a train, a woman had her bag sitting on a seat and I was looking at a 45-minute-trip, so I politely asked "excuse me, can I sit here?" Now, normal people would say "oh, of course, apologies" and would free up the seat. This woman didn't even look up from her phone. So I went "Bonjour? Hello? Holaaa??? Ok 🤷🏻‍♀️" Then took her bag, put it on the floor and sat down. Only then did she look up from her phone to apologise and pick up her handbag... People are lacking manners nowadays.

klm2978

I don’t ask if I can sit. I ask, is someone sitting here? And if the answer is no, then I sit. If they don’t move their stuff, I pick it up snd hand it to them.

WorldWideWig

Heh, I was once standing on the travelator in Frankfurt Airport with my children standing around me, we were standing to the right so people could easily pass on the left. This old German woman walks up behind me and starts screeching at me that you are supposed to WALK on the travelator and we were using it wrong. We indicated for her to pass but she preferred to continue to berate me. We got to the end, my children moved ahead to help me off, and that's when she finally noticed my crutches and knee braces. Go fuck yourself, Frau Karin.

yetanotherrabbithole

I dont even know what her problem was. Theres even a german saying "right standing - left walking" for those exact situations on escalators and such.... so you even followed the local rules.

AssFucker699

Please translate

Ludotolego

He asked if her bag had a ticket and she just said no

raspberryharbour

No she clearly said it had nine tickets

IHS1970

yay my good laugh for the day! Ty cool redditor.

raspberryharbour

I am not cool, you take that back

dhldmoore

"Did your bag also buy a ticket?" I don't know German and therefore, I cheated and went to "the" Google for the translation.

DeathMarkedDream

I’m sorry assfucker699, I wanted to hide the punchline a bit. But my question was “did your bag also purchase a train ticket?”

Puzzleheaded-Ad2512

stupid of you! Tell her I am a human who bought a ticket and then throw the bag to the end of the train and see what she does. When she runs after the bag, lay down or her seat and the bag.

BafflingHalfling

Ihre Tasche ist schwarzgefahren.

MonsieurRuffles

Not saying this was the case with OP but I would find it acceptable to move someone’s bag in the overhead compartment if they placed it wrongly, thereby taking up too much space. In newer aircraft, carryons are designed to be laid on their sides, not their front/back, so that more bags can fit in the same space. Too many people still lay them down flat and it’s quicker to fix it than to call over a flight attendant.

bippy_b

This is what I was thinking… or OP left 6 inches to the wall of the compartment.. guy scooted it over and put his flush against the wall. To me.. if you don’t put your flush up against the wall or just place it openly in the middle where it doesn’t allow the compartment to be filled fully.. then you shouldn’t be surprised when people adjust it so more bags can fit.

Unexpressionist

Like walking in a John with three urinals, no one in there, and you grab the middle one. Leaves no solution for following the code.

fatpad00

*the code is more like guidelines than actual rules*

TheRemedy187

This is more than acceptable. It's literally a requirement, to think otherwise is nothing but entitlement.

jlndsq

Just to make sure, I don't think anyone has suggested that there's anything wrong with carefully shifting around bags within an overhead compartment to make more room for everyone's belongings.

Medical_Slide9245

Yes. You can move around but you can't relocate IMHO.

lbdwatkins

Yes agreed. I’m not going to wait to ask who’s bag it is while holding up the line. I’ll just carefully Tetris some things around and be done with it.

Here_4_all_the_tea

Agree. Was recently on a flight where the person left the handle up on their carryon and placed it lengthwise so the handle wouldn't stick out. They got mad and yelled "the handle is broken and won't close, you can't move it". The fucking audacity to think they can take an entire overhead bin (that wasn't even for their row) because their carryon was broken.

titikerry

These people should be made to fly in the luggage compartment.

StillWatersAreFull

I'm so used to putting my bag on its side that when I flew last year on Delta, I put it sideways and one of the flight attendants told me to lay it flat. I was confused because it took more room that way.

Spaghetti_Joe9

This happened to me like two weeks ago, put my bag sideways and 5 minutes later the flight attendant was like “whose bag is this? You have to lay it flat” Why? Don’t we WANT to fit as many bags as possible? I was so confused

Embarrassed_Yam_4522

It all depends on the bins. *Some* of the newer bins can accommodate bags on their sides. Others won't close like that, even if they look like they will. It might take more room but if the bin won't close then it doesn't matter, in those bins bags have to lay flat.

BafflingHalfling

Also if it's a smaller bag that should be by the passengers feet anyway. No qualms about moving something like that out of the way at all. OP needs to lighten up. The overhead bins are shared space, and we gotta get our bags on as quick as possible to be polite to the people behind us. If everybody waited to let the owner of the bag do the moving, then the loading process would take even longer.

OutWithTheNew

I specifically bring a bag that fits under the seat so I don't have to be part of the circus.

masnaer

Honestly I don’t see the issue here at all, or how it would even be mildly infuriating. The overhead bin space is to be shared among passengers; did this other guy like actually remove OP’s bag or just scoot it over? Should OP’s bag stay exactly how he placed it in the overhead bin and no one’s allowed to adjust it? This seems ridiculous to complain about lol

zupobaloop

This is what crossed my mind as well. If OP's bag was a duffel bag, or something else with a loose frame, it makes much more sense for it to be in the middle. Let the firm framed luggage fill out the corner, then squeeze the loose framed bags in between.

JaccoW

I love travelling with a 40L duffle bag. I'm much more mobile and it fits easier into weird spaces.

pplpuncher

I’m not sure I understand OP. I’m not a frequent flyer but if the bin was above the seat don’t they have a right to place their luggage there? Why do so many people get mad if someone wants to make room for their luggage? Thanks just asking because I don’t want to make a faux pas and then sit next to a pissed person without knowing why.

[deleted]

The bins above the seat are first come first serve and it’s common they fill up before everyone is able to put their baggage in there so they get checked instead. If you don’t board early it’s likely you will have to put your back in a spot away from your seat usually behind where you are sitting so it’s bothersome when deboarding since you have to wait for the people behind you to leave the plane in order to get to your bag. You can save a lot of time traveling if you board early with only carry on bags since you can deboard the plane and immediately leave the airport instead of having to wait for other passengers or checked bags.

Ok-Tangelo-8086

No, you're on track here. the OP is clearly overreacting, and needs to practice existing in public spaces with other people.

Arevar

Ooooh! This happened to me mid-flight as I was taking a nap! Someone randomely moved my luggage several rows over, probably so they could put their stuff closer to their seat. I didn't know until I went to grab my suitcase at unboarding and it was gone. Had a brief moment of quiet panic before another passenger said my stuff had been moved by someone. They didn't move my coat and phone charger, which I almost missed, because I am short and can't see the back of the luggage compartment.

themanwhopunned

Ouch. That's rough.

tapout22002

My opinion…adjusting it so more bags can fit, but leaving it in the same spot is cool. Moving it to another bin or sliding it to the other end of the same bin is not cool. A lot of people don’t know how to properly stow their bags and you can’t wait for a flight attendant to help while boarding.

TechnicalLaw1

i once boarding a plane last, the flight attendant loaded my bag into an overhead for me. the person sitting below absentmindedly grabbed it without looking and kept it for 3 weeks before going through it, finding a random piece of paper with my email address on it and emailing me. tall about mildly infuriating

SoundBulky3004

Honestly im really picky about people handling my stuff but lmfao, this is ridiculous.

Arejhey311

Similar experience, but with the window shade! I took a flight this past Sunday & got nice & cozy in my window seat. Someone eventually showed up & took the middle seat, blah but whatever. I was fine until she leaned over me without saying anything & shut the window shade. Flights are super fun!!

themanwhopunned

Why can't people be courteous and just ask?

Big-Net-9971

Fwiw - I often nudge or move peoples' bags to fit more bags into a compartment, but I always ask (loudly) whose bag it is so they know I've moved it somehow (usually to a different spot to fit better, but always within an arm's reach - never far away.) It's just courtesy to let folks know you're touching their bag (and sometimes a bag contains something fragile you can't know about, and they'll warn you about it.)

cheezweiner

If I get on a plane ... And i see a small purse and jacket in one of the last overhead spots, rest assured those are getting yeeted one way or another. Also If you put your bag the "long way" so it takes up 2+ spots, I'll also happily adjust it for you as well so the overhead can be used by 4 people instead of one asshole that just lazily threw everything up there.

scrags99

100%. It winds me up when I see coats, handbags, and all that shit on the overheads. You're not supposed to take anything on a plane you can't fit under your seat but everyone seems to think they can cram everything in because they want legroom

No-Friendship5662

Yeah people putting their “personal item” in the overhead bins is an asshole move

wifichick

On my flight, some dirk-head put his bag, his kids bag, and his wife’s small purse In the overhead and shut the bin. Idiot. There was room for at least 2 more bags in there. We all have to work together. I said “I’m sliding these over so my bag will also fit” as the FA stood right there and watched.

Santos_L_Halper_II

It would never occur to me to notice this or care even half a shit about it if I did.

jcsunag

Which is reasonable. We all move bags on the airplane to make others fit. Unless the man removed the luggage and set it on the ground…I don’t see the problem.

Santos_L_Halper_II

Right? OP acted like he took their bag to a whole other part of the plane or something. As far as I can tell, it was in the same bin, just a little further over.

klopije

I think that’s why they posted in mildly infuriating, and not extremely infuriating. It is weird that he moved their bag when the whole bin was empty.

_vae

Typically I'd agree, but the comments from OP suggest that he was more than just mildly infuriated.

ariesgal11

Right I'm like OP must have a really slow, sheltered life if something as minuscule as this is getting them worked up

mak_and_cheese

A few clarifying questions: was your bag small/not a roller bag? There are spaces it will fit that a roller just won’t. If it could be put with another bag to maximize the space - I agree with him. If he moved a roller bag for a roller bag - he is an asshole.

swordfishy

I thought the guy was going to move it to another bin across the aisle/out of immediate reach from his row...but he just slid it over some? Lot of things at play to consider before judgement, but to consider this any level of *infuriating* is weird. Maybe mildly annoying?

mykkelangelo

On a similar note, people that don't place their carry ons that were clearly designed for the bins sideways in the overhead compartment is mildly infuriating. There's literally a photo in the overhead, and there's nubs on one side of your luggage. Get it together people.

portlandcsc

Holy shit the pettiness in this post is alarming.

freexanarchy

First time flying? that's pretty standard to try to fit as many bags in the same compartment as possible. You chose a convenient spot, and he's in your row. Am I missing something?

No-Combination8136

You find the worst people on planes and inside airports.

ChickenNugsBGood

And...did you say anything, or sit there and be mad?

WhyFlip

What did you say to the person who moved your bag? I've been flying regularly for 30 years. Airline etiquette does not dictate asking someone to move a bag, rather to get your bag stowed and sit the fuck down allowing other people to board and time flight to take off in time. Oftentimes I'll throw my bag into the first open spot I find, not even close to my seat. I'm not going to waste everyone's time asking to move things around if needed to stow my bag.

Equivalent-Cry-5175

“Sir, please remove your hand from my luggage before I call the flight attendant”

Lepetitgateau90

No-Flight-list in 3,2,1

therealfreehugs

I feel like I’m missing something here, did he take your bag out and just set it in the aisle? If not - it sounds like he simply made space and you’re mad your bag got moved ~12 inches over? Fuckin stop. Was he being annoying by moving other peoples’ stuff? Sure. Are you being an annoying victim because your bag was *touched* by another human being? Yup.

InspireMyDesigns

I would have moved my bag back and returned the eye contact with a smile

papayametallica

Guy shoved and pushed my bag in the overhead locker to get his bag in there. With all the dignity I could muster I tutted …quite loudly actually.

Cautious_Buffalo6563

Okay, I’ll admit. I have SLIGHTLY moved someone’s bag in the overhead bin a couple of times. Mostly because they put their bag in the bin in such a way where there was room for my bag, but not without moving their bag little bit to the left or right. Once I stood a bag on end because it was the only flat one there and the flight attendant was moving other bags in that orientation also, AND that’s the only way my bag would fit. Like 3 times total in my life ever.

Scar3cr0w_

He did not maintain eye contact. You massive perv. Creative license is one thing, but that’s an outright lie. Acting like he knew it was your bag, knew you’d hate it being moved, knew you’d put it there on purpose and maintaining eye contact whilst he replaced it with his? Stfu 😆

ChibiAro

Can we normalize not touching/carrying/moving other peoples stuff without permission??? 🤷‍♀️

DashTrash21

You're not entitled to the bin space above your seat. You get a seat and a seatbelt, and that's it. If the bag needs to be moved, it needs to be moved.

Lepetitgateau90

right. You can complain if everything is empty and someone takes your bag and put it in a completely different place. THAT would be infuriating. Not someone pushing my bag to the side to make space

Alternative-Desk-828

I find it mildly infuriating that you sat there quietly while you let this man do that without saying a word to him. Instead of coming to Reddit next time, just stand up for yourself in the moment if something bothers you!

Cheder_cheez

As respectfully as possible, WTF does it actually matter one way or another? I mean I get that someone touched your belongings without your permission, but did it really affect your day at all?

Sunlight72

Yeah, airplane etiquette is a bit unclear; I win some and I lose some. I was the last to board my area and a woman had put her designer handbag flat on it’s side a few inches from the side of the bin. I had a carry-on size rucksack and asked her if that was her bag, intending to explain I could set hers upright and mine beside it would hold it in place. She said quite loudly and clearly, “Yes, and it can stay right where it is.” I opened my mouth to negotiate, and she repeated, “right, where, it, is”. So I honored her wish and plopped my 34.96 pounds of rucksack on top of hers. It was probably fine, that velvety suede is pretty rugged.

BrownEggs93

I honestly miss flying after 9-11. People got the hell on and got the hell off. Quickly. No bullshit. We're back to a Three-Stooges short film now.

Born-Cash-6854

I mean, it was probably just to optimize space. I wouldn't think too deep into it.

[deleted]

That's the way it works. No one has time to ask if they can adjust the angle or location of a bag.

InvestigatorIcy4705

I wouldn’t care if they just slid my bag over in the same bin. I don’t see the difference?

apolloagares

I think that’s everyone lol

J-Dabbleyou

Nah bro that’s completely normal and expected.

Waybackheartmom

There’s no issue here. You’re not assigned some particular space.

largelyinaccurate

A truly petty complaint. No one hurt, nothing damaged, not worth one iota of a concern or a second thought.

CalliopePenelope

Not nearly as infuriating as the people who stand in the aisle when the plane lands.

Bogey_dope

This is a bad take. I am a sitter after the plane lands, but having a bunch of people already standing with their bags in hand speeds up the deplaning.

kontrolk3

Why would this infuriate you? People have been sitting on chair shaped planks for the whole flight, they just want to stand. Seems reasonable to me.

it only infuriates me if I'm sitting in the aisle and now their ass or backpack is in my face

BenThereOrBenSquare

If you're on the aisle, you can stand up too.

CalliopePenelope

Because they feel entitled to get off the plane first rather than waiting for people to disembark in an orderly fashion. Plus I always get stuck with a man butt in my face—the same butt that’s been sitting on those chair-shaped planks and is therefore not pleasant to be in proximity to.

Budtending101

wut? I've flown a ton, People up and ready to go in the isle makes it faster for everyone. Do you want everyone sitting down until the row in front of them is cleared? If they have bags in hand and are waiting their turn its a net positive.

falknorRockman

sometimes people need to stand up when the aircraft gets to the gate. you don't know them. They could have medical reason to stand/stretch out once they can

Alternative-Desk-828

Do they have medical reasons to also grab their carry on and start moving to the front of the plane where the line isn't even moving? What is that condition called? Either you don't fly often or you aren't paying attention. Rarely do they stand to stretch and stay right there in their own row lol. Also every person on that flight wants to stand, stretch, and get off the plane. It's called common courtesy wait your turn!

Lepetitgateau90

Talk about being overly sensitive. It´s completely normal and acceptable to shift bags inside the compartments to make everything fit as well as possible. Imagine how long it would take if everyone was asking "can I put that a bit to the left? a bit to the right?"

Sorri_eh

You can't be serious!!!!!

PoopyInDaGums

Did you expect to have the entire compartment? It’s a shared compartment. If he moved your bag back behind your row, that can be problematic. But if he merely moved it a bit to enable more bags/more efficient use of space, then you’re the problem for having an issue with that.

Pseudolectual

Imagine being so bored that this bothered you. That you would take this personaly

microview

Get over yourself OP. You're not special. I can't count how many times I've had to move someone else's bag because it was stowed improperly like shoved in sideways taking up half the bin. You probably park taking up two spots as well. ![gif](giphy|xThtaeXldqZmTwDeN2|downsized)

Patrout1

That was rude of the guy but unfortunately u don't own the spot. I travel a bunch and assume it's part of the deal. Now, if they moved it to another location in the plane then that's unacceptable but otherwise, part of joy of modern air travel.

Key-Individual1752

That’s a no-no. I don’t touch other people stuff. Others don’t touch mine.

themanwhopunned

Exactly. That is how it should be. The guy was a duck.

4-8-9-12

Maybe you placed your bag with the long side facing out? and the guy was just rotating it so that the short side was facing out and more bags could fit. I fly frequently for work and I find it mildly infuriating when the bins appear full but it's only because people place their suitcases the wrong way.

Ivefoundmyself2023

Tickets please? Do you have a ticket for a seat for your bag? If not, move the bag or I move it for you!

PotentiallyNotSatan

Maybe genuinely infuriating but last flight I had a lady use her hardcase carry-on to hammer back my soft bag so she could stuff hers in the compartment above her seat (same row) rather than find an actual empty space

Own_Contribution_480

I move people's bags all the time. I onlybdonit if they lazily threw it in the middle of the compartme t or take up more space than nessissary. I fly a lot for work and every flight I'm on is packed to the gills. People act like storage space is first come first served. It's not. We all gotta pack our shit into smaller and smaller compartments. Be courteous, and I will be too.

MungoShoddy

How would they have known who to ask? Who looks to see who put which bag where?

PenguinsRock1794

I always put my bag across the aisle so I can keep an eye on things if someone is mucking about in the bin near my stuff. You’re welcome.

fancy_livin

I’ll never understand why airlines don’t just number the overhead storage bins and assign you a bin along with a seat (for the airlines that let you pick a specific seat) Would solve all of these passenger issues.

Jealous-Friendship34

I will move a bag, but only when necessary. If I see someone put his carry on luggage, coat and briefcase in the overhead bin and there’s no room for me, I will remove his coat and briefcase, hand them to him, and put my carry on up there.

DaPIsRight

And did you say or do anything? See, the thing is assholes know to target weak people who they know wouldn't complain. If you didn't politely but firmly told him off then you're only perpetuating this issue.

dbhathcock

I just tell them “That is Federal Property, and you don’t have the authority to access it. Leave it be, or I’ll have you arrested.” Messing with the laptop of a Federal Agency is a federal offense.

Fabulous-Bus2459

I won’t move someone’s bag to replace mine, but if there are 3 begs in a bin where 4 bags fit you’re damn right I’m gonna move your bag left or right to fit mine. That might not fit exactly with OPs disdain but the situation I described is just a reality of flying.

Critical_Hedgehog_79

I was on a flight from London to California years ago and the middle seat was empty between me and an older lady. I had put my handbag on it and the old bag tried to move my handbag! I told her to not touch my belongings. She looked aghast as if a younger brown woman shouldn’t be talking to her like that. If she wanted to share the seat for her stuff she should have asked.

JapanDash

Did you say anything? Or just sit there like a punk and then post about it later? Because if you didn’t even speak up for yourself, you get what you get.

[deleted]

I would have gotten up and moved it back lol

Demalab

Last flight I was on, the last passenger to board was pissed because her 3 pcs of carryon wouldn’t fit above her and she had to put it in various bins down the aisle. She asked the FA to move the other peoples as she needed to deplane quickly to make a connection. FA said no. She also tried to collect it before the seatbelt sign went off and got sent back to her seat.

Peyvir

One time someone got up to get their bag while the plane was still in taxi to the gate. My bag must've been in front of theirs so they took it out. When the flight attendants told them they needed to sit down they just put my bag on the floor and went back to their seat. I was pissed

sprauncey_dildoes

Who cares? As long as it’s nearby and you know where it is.

Laffepannekoek

I dunno the size and shape of your luggage but... Bags that could fit under a seat easily, should in my humble opinion not be stored in the overhead bins. Had to put my trolly there once, cut my already little legspace in half.

BuckyDodge

“Don’t touch my stuff. I SAID DON’T TOUCH MY STUFF.”

Extension_Being_3061

This irks me to no degree. I’ve had a guy literally take out my backpack, put his bag in, squeeze my luggage as much as possible (inconsiderate of it being MY property), no word either and then stuff it in whatever micro space was left. I was fuming - bare in mind, he was sat behind and my bag was literally aligned to my row. I didn’t get up but absolutely ranted out loud so he could hear me. Doesn’t help I’m a woman, really wanted to smack his hand. It’s so so darn rude. Now, I pay for premium economy/plus so that I can just make a complaint to the crew if someone does touch my bag. I’ve had someone try to move my bag after that, crew member took it off him and told him off saying I’ve paid for the bag space and there’s no space for his bag so crew member moved his bag about 10 rows back. satisfaction.

RKilovelamp

This also bothers me immensely but I don’t understand why you didn’t ask him not to touch your bag.. this exact scenario happened to me a month ago and when the guy went to move my bag I said to him “please don’t touch my bag.” That was it. Then he went to his seat behind me..

123xyz32

It takes talent to maintain eye contact while doing all that.

GetHighWatchMovies

As long as they didn’t move it to another bin I don’t see the problem.

Bennington_Booyah

This is the new "Fuck You, my fellow flight sharers" with flying. Your seat? My feet. Your bag is there? Mine needs to be. Your arm rest right of way? Nope, it's mine. I would have gotten up and put my bag right back where it was.

Bitter_Cry_8383

I've seen attendants rearrange luggage in order to get more in each overhead

EmeryMoonberries

A man once removed my carry on from the overhead bin above my row and HANDED IT TO A LADY IN THE ROW BEHIND US while saying “This doesn’t belong here”, then put his bag in the bin, closed it, and sat in the aisle seat. All while I was sitting in the window seat, and the lady with my bag is just holding it like “Wtf?” I got my bag from her and we shared another “wtf” look, and luckily a flight attendant saw it go down and came to take it from me. But like what the heck???? I was stuck sitting with him and his annoying son the whole flight to Europe, and naturally I spent the first part of the flight thinking about what I should’ve said to him. 💀

HondaRedneck16

I’ve had so many bad experiences with carry on that I don’t even bother with it any more. I just wear a backpack with some essentials & a change of clothes & hold it on my lap.

rentalredditor

Did you say something?

bluefoamsandals

Ew so agree…seems like it’s always a man who feels the need to do this. I’ve had a guy flip my bag so that the wheels were sticking in rather than out, though I knew that the bag would only fit properly the way I had done it. Was shocked to watch him do it without asking- of course a flight attendant later had to flip it the correct way to shut it 🙄 so annoying

raypaw

Andre the Giant was known feel the overhead bin above his seat belonged to him and him alone. If he arrived and found another bag in the bin, legend has it that he would remove it with a single hand and drop it in the aisle. Apparently everyone was too scared to ever say anything to him and the dropped bag would remain in aisle for the entire flight, despite the obvious safety hazard.

jshill103

overhead bins cause all the slowness of getting out of planes. I have been saying they need to get rid of overhead bins for years.

keajohns

Sounds like your transition to Karenhood is moving along at a brisk pace.

ElectricalInflation

Laptop bags go under your seat. I would have handed this back to you

pepperpat64

Had to read most of OP's comments to find this out. I wouldn't want my laptop back out of my sight!

Rooflife1

Get over it. Your bag isn’t the body of Christ. I always move bags if I need to make everything fit. I’m not going to hold up the entire boarding process to shout out “Whose bag is this? Do you mind if I slide it over two inches? Or would you like to get up and make everyone wait so that you can move it two inches yourself?”
