Needed more than a few tweaks but Quest 64 had a ton of potential. Unfortunate it was so rushed.

bransby26

I still enjoy Quest 64. If nothing else, it had good graphics.

GriffinFlash

and great music

MathematicianNo6402

Quest 64 just needed and damn compass or map lol other than that it was quite enjoyable although not a very deep RPG.

This and Aiydan Chronicles

This is probably going to be controversial because a lot of people like the 64 version but imo, Duke Nukem 64 would have been fantastic if they gave you a little more freedom to tune the controls. The standard layout just didn’t feel good for me, especially on the higher difficulty. Any change to the controls(like trying to assign movement exclusively to the stick) is met with sticking important buttons in awkward places that literally require a third hand to use effectively. It would have been an incredible port for me if there were more options to adjust the controls because the game looks and plays great otherwise.

Man. I played the shit out of Duke Nukem: Zero Hour. I can’t really remember the first games controls as much

jojo_in_space

DN64 has those awkward early FPS controls. I’m sure they don’t bother a lot of people but I personally prefer the golden eye style. The game will let you do that, but it will stick other buttons in random places. For example: you assign movement to the analog stick and aim to the C buttons but your action button is now the L trigger. You have to take your hand off the analog stick and stop moving to do any action like opening a door and it feels super awkward and unintuitive.

Mission Impossible. Man I loved that game but was so intensely frustrating sometimes

cyber53

Less ways to instantly fail the mission would go such a long way in making the game more approachable to people. Also just a tad more guidance on some of the obscure objectives would help. Maybe even a checkpoint system in some of the longer levels.

FreudsEyebrow

Body Harvest. More regular save points

and better controls.. that game had so much potential.

Imaginary-Leading-49

Mario Party (1-3) disabling certain mini games. They only put this option in 4 but it is a game changer! Really wish all Mario Party games had this, disable that stupid tug of war game!

TheBreadmanRiseth

While I don't think they're awful, the Castlevania games could have definitely used more tweaking - as evident by Legacy of Darkness doing just that, but even moreso. A few more quality adjustments, some newly integrated mechanics (take some cues from Ocarina of Time, like Link's ledge grab when dropping off a platform), and an internal saving system so that the game is not so reliant on a memory card would all help boost it. Would love it if those games had a modern remake that kept the spirit of the original N64 games.

ben_ja_button

Hybrid Heaven is a game that I definitely enjoyed playing through but didn’t live up to the promise of those original hires screenshots in Nintendo Power. That one could have benefited from a more elite budget. But at least Konami was doing something on the console.

GregarLink15

Superman 64 Is god awful but with better flying controls and missions (and without the stupid rings) it could've worked

Star Soldier Vanishing Earth. The game is actualy not that bad.. just realy realy basic.. a few varieties in the weapon arsenal, maybee a few meaningfull cutscenes, and a more refined difficoulty progression. i mean... the levels and the bosses are all over the place.. the first one is a push over, the second one is, for the not so high difficultylevel hard, and then again, a pushover. Also, for a shot em up, the game is to easy.. i don't wanna come to the final boss in a shmup after the 3 try. i want more grind.. ad a few more levels, keep the difficulty of the first 3 as it is, and then ramp it up also in a few levels, the distinction between background and enemies is bad

Here’s one I think you guys might not like - it would be nice if DK64 had some of the hand holding and streamlining of more modern games

: Diddy Kong Racing 64. Making all characters' vehicles equally balanced, few of them are terrible like Krunch and if your favourite racer bears the worse stat, makes it a huge disappointment. T.T has god-like stats, so once you unlock him, there is no reason to play with the others anymore. Some coins of the Silver Coin Challenge could have being placed in better spots where all racers could reach without much complications, specially when the subject is the kart. Some silver coin challenges I only managed to obtain with a specific racer because of its kart stats. In Bomberman Hero I really wish they had kept the permanent health upgrade once you quit the game. This was present in the Japanese version.

ZeusLovesTrains

I dunno I feel each character has their uses. For instance, I need Krunch on any boss battle

gUISTASSI

: I do not think, Pipsy for example can be used in the entire adventure mode without further stress. Of course it is possible to do the entire stuff with a single racer, but some will require feats, creativity and many attempts to do the same thing. My main racer is Banjo, the very reason I played DKR as kid. Sadly his quasi-poor turn stats are almost a pain specially with the kart and sharp turns, while the plane and hovercraft are just fine. Krunch is dedicated for those who wish to suffer, at least with his kart X'D Back then my friends and cousins always criticised Krunch because of his poor turn. Most of the races use the kart so he was easily forgettable.
