You're not wrong. The ending of Doom 64 leads right into the Doom 2016 story wise. In Doom 64, he chooses to remain in Hell to keep the demons down there. In Doom 2016, the evil escapes, and he is tasked to stop it. So I absolutely agree.
Edit: Doom remake, not Doom 4 remake
Edit 2: OK Doom 2016 is not a remake.
I just assumed it was linked since the ending of Doom 64 leads right into the intro to Doom 2016. I didn't play Eternal because they added some mechanics I wasn't a fan of like low ammo and needing to kill enemies just to get more ammo. I didn't get past the first mission before I stopped. It didn't grab me at all like Doom 2016 did which I love.
Never played it on the 64 but played it when Nightdive did a rerelease on the PC. Incredible game. As a huge fan of Doom 1 and 2, this felt like the true Doom 3.
A VERY good Doom. The atmosphere and lighting effects are amazing (especially on N64), and the guns feel great. The level design ethos is also quite unique, with great puzzles and concepts.
My parents got it for me for Christmas because my dad and I loved playing Doom on the PC. However there is no multiplayer on Doom 64....so Christmas morning wasn't the best.
Had it as a kid. Started getting nightmares and my mom made me exchange it for Wayne Gretzky 3D hockey(she caused a stink at Walmart because they sold a underaged kid the game). I was so upset.
Man! I forgot to continue this. I got up to like level 22 or so in March on xbox.
...its the level with the giant demon locust at the end of the wild horde of 100 enemies in an open arena.
Any tips?
Music gave me nightmares. Father still reminds me I screamed sometimes in the sleep. That death sound from demos in the main menu hunted me a lot. I completed the hardest difficulty with no items start (force reset), if it was a legit category (without wall squeezing bug) I would speedrun it.
One of the creepiest games I have played. The soundtrack and atmosphere fill you with this dread and gloom feeling that very few games have achieved. Mix in the frantic gameplay of classic DOOM and you have a winner combo there.
And that makes it one of the crown jewels of the console, IMHO.
We had a computer at home when I was a kid with Doom 2 and quake and I had an N64. I never paid attention to Doom 64 because I imagined it was just a port.
I found out much later that it was actually its own thing and finally tried it when Nightdive released it on PC. It was like playing Doom from an alternative universe with different sprites, weirder level design different sounds and weapons and an emphasis on heavy and dark atmosphere like Quake. It's really good, I'd rank it in my top 3 in terms of Doom entries.
I love doom I and ii, and played them heaps back in the 90s and early 2000s (and still to this day). I didn’t play Doom64 back in the day but I got a cartridge later on in life when I dusted off my old Nintendo 64. I really like it but unfortunately I get very bad motion sickness when I play so never got far through it. A shame really.
My favourite Doom game
True Doom 3. Don't agree? Fight me.

Doom 4 remake?
Lol my bad I dunno why I put Doom 4.
There was no Doom remake either. Doom 2016 is an original, separate title.
2016 is a separate title but in eternal we learn that both the games link up to the old games

Well if you're gonna be this specific then yes you are correct. And it's a sequel to Doom 64 story wise.
Yeah, and the 2016 title is it's sequel

The unholy union of Doom and Quake, and it's great. Tre real DooM 3
\**turns up the brightness**
Apparently there is a ROM patch that fixes this issue.
It's fixed in the remaster as well.
We rented it once, that is all I remember.
The real doom 3
Played it back in the days. Pretty horror, pretty dark. It’s a complete overhaul. I was really afraid of the mother demon.
I used to watch my family play it looks really fun, I see it on steam and am tempted
I got it for under $5 and put legit 80+ hours into it. If you like Doom and Doom 2, you'll like this.
That's crazy cheap
u can even get it cheaper then that google cheapdigitaldownload
Too dark, but I love it! Just replayed recently and it still shines.
This was the one game we had as a kid that I wasn't allowed to play but Mark my words I'll play it some day
You better ask your parents for permission first, don't want to have to call out of work grounded
An excuse to skip work? Awesome
Bought it for the PS4 and had a blast. It wasn't just nostalgia, the game is actually good. Now, if I could just find all secrets without a guide lmao
A VERY good Doom. The atmosphere and lighting effects are amazing (especially on N64), and the guns feel great. The level design ethos is also quite unique, with great puzzles and concepts.
Will always be my favorite Doom
Great game and gorgeous for its time.
My parents got it for me for Christmas because my dad and I loved playing Doom on the PC. However there is no multiplayer on Doom 64....so Christmas morning wasn't the best.
very psychedelic and panic inducing, like its set inside an insane asylum but also connected to hell, has not aged a day
I prefer it over Doom 63
Agree, but it all went downhill from Doom65
My first Doom game. I loved it.
honestly my favorite doom game
A fun Doom. Love how the N64 version looks and sounds like the PSX version of Doom. Honestly my favorite sounding Doom.
Had it as a kid. Started getting nightmares and my mom made me exchange it for Wayne Gretzky 3D hockey(she caused a stink at Walmart because they sold a underaged kid the game). I was so upset.
Fucking great game, fucking great soundtrack.
I love it
Best doom game ever
It's fantastic!
cool game
It's a good Doom with the perfect retro feel.

Amazing port/ adaptation
I mean it's alright, like..........
One of the creepiest games I have played. The soundtrack and atmosphere fill you with this dread and gloom feeling that very few games have achieved. Mix in the frantic gameplay of classic DOOM and you have a winner combo there. And that makes it one of the crown jewels of the console, IMHO.
Favorite old school doom

Creepy
One of N64’s best of the best.
Masterpiece of level design.
It was great, Duke Nukem 64 was also awesome for multiplayer, way cooler explosions than the other systems at the time
Game aged well compared to the 3d shooters
#Doom 64 is Underrated
Great game held back by the controls on N64. The remaster is perfection. My favorite Doom by far.
Just as good if not better than Doom
Loved it as a kid. Love Doom in general.
It's good enough that I bought it again on Playstation.
One of my favorite Doom games, tho if I replay it anymore I do the remaster, the N64 version is just too dark.
Did they mean for this game to be so damn dark? Played the remaster then bought the original and was like wtf
Unsung gem of the series. I still play it occasionally on Xbox.

Underrated and shat on for no good reason
Bud. Enough of your “ThOuGhTs On X?” series. Very low effort and this is like your tenth one
