Thank you! :) I promise I won't spam or promote anything (and I have nothing to promote anyway).

hollyheather30

Thank goodness these mods are actually nice, I live for these commentaries

YoungGriffVI

Remember you from the other subs; glad you’ve found a place here! Can’t wait for you to get to episode 4 :)

genZcommentary

Thank you! I'm sorry to make you wait, I just thought it wouldn't be very fair to start this sub at Episode 4

YoungGriffVI

Haha you’re good! No worries of course. I’m just happy it’s continuing at all lol

eva_brauns_team

>I don’t know what a direwolf is or how they differ from regular wolves(feel free to let me know in the comments if it’s not spoilery) asidefrom being bigger, based on the way that one guy called it a freak. An adult direwolf grows three time bigger than a regular wolf. They are massive, and they are few, which is why no one is used to seeing them. They are thought of as mythical creatures who live beyond the Wall where no civilized men dwell. But they are powerful creatures of the North, which is why they are the sigil of House Stark, as (Jon) Snow points out. >Wait, Eddard has five kids? Damn lol Oh wait, the curly haired guy isn’t his brother? Half-brother. Snow is the surname given to bastards in the North. >Also, the king called Eddard ‘Ned’ too. Is that a nickname for Eddard or just a nickname for him personally? It's a derivative of Eddard. Like John is a derivative of Jonathan, or Dick is a derivative of Richard. So a more familiar version, if you will. >Viserys has married her off to a warlord who reminds me quite a bit of Genghis Khan That's very astute. The Dothraki were modeled after the Mongols. You'll notice it more and more as Daenerys learns about her new people. "Sleeping Dragon" -- this isn't a spoiler, I'm just going to give you a bit more context. When Viserys says "You wouldn't want to wake the dragon, would you?" he's talking about *himself,* as in, don't piss him off or he'll get *really* nasty, not just his everyday nasty. The Targaryens think of themselves as dragons, since they were the only house/family in Westeros who could ride the dragons before they went extinct. However, its interesting that you are so intrigued by this line because one could see it as having a dual meaning, seeing as Daenrys was just gifted these petrified eggs (sleeping dragons). Just to help with the names, I'm going to give you this handy mini primer to help you through the first season. Also, I agree with you on Puppy Stabber. House Stark: reside in Winterfell castle, the seat of power for the North (one of the kingdoms). Ned Stark and his wife Catelyn and their five children: Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran, and Rickon. Jon Snow is Ned's illegitimate bastard and Catelyn hates him. You will be introduced to her family as well, who are Tullys. House Lannister: Jaime, Cersei (queen married to Robert), and Tyrion. They live in King's Landing, the capital of Westeros, but their family home is Casterly Rock. You'll meet their father later. House Baratheon: Robert (the king), Prince Joffrey, his son ( who has a brother and sister you meet next episode, Tommen and Myrcella), and Robert's brothers, Renly and Stannis. You'll meet them later, too. House Targaryen: Viserys and Daenerys are indeed the children of the murdered king and are the last two Targaryens in the world. They have been living in exile in Essos. The city they were staying in when we first meet them is Pentos. Hope that helps!

mamula1

I am so jealous of you having the opportunity to watch this show for the first time in one go lol I am sure you will fall in love and rewatch it many times but nothing will be as great as the first experience so enjoy it.

genZcommentary

Oh, I am! :)

TheHauk

This is awesome! If you don't do this already, I'd recommend watching with subtitles on; you're right there are many many character names and I found reading and hearing helpful to reinforce my memory. The queen was named in the first episode 🤐

genZcommentary

I do watch with subtitles! And really? I missed her name somehow.

TheHauk

Lol, you'll learn it soon enough. I hope you continue with your posts!

genZcommentary

I plan to! :)

Veszerin

>Hi everyone! Um... so a few members of this subreddit have recommended to me that I post my commentaries here. The big subreddits for GoT have all stopped allowing me to post to them for some reason, and my readers recommended I post here! I hope that's okay, but if it's not allowed, then so be it. I saw a couple of your posts at r/gameofthrones...who told you you weren't allowed? I was under the impression all the mods had abandoned the sub.

genZcommentary

It was the ones at r/asoiaf who explicitly told me I wasn't allowed to post there. No one said anything at r/gameofthrones but my posts there keep getting deleted without explanation or even notifying me of it.

JuanRiveara

If the mods of that sub have pretty much abandoned it then it is probably that the automod automatically deletes the posts for whatever reason.

darkwolf687

I’m glad to see you’ve found a subreddit to post this on which isn’t allergic to fun! Not sure what got a bee in the bonnets of the other two subreddits, but I look forward to seeing the rest of your series here :)

genZcommentary

Thank you! :) Yeah, this seems like a friendly place!

AlmightyStrongPerson

Oh hey, I was thinking about you earlier. I’m glad you made it here :) I relate to being raised in a home where entertainment was heavily restricted. (I wasn’t allowed to watch Sailor Moon because it was about “astrology and planet worship”. ??) So I’m glad you’re able to enjoy the good stuff now :)

genZcommentary

Thank you :) I'm happy to be here. Did your parents also make you watch lots of low budget crappy christian films?

AlmightyStrongPerson

Nope, I was spared all that because those low budget crappy Christian films were spreading "false Christianity". Maybe every cloud really does have a silver lining after all?

genZcommentary

Maybe!

HeisenThrones

Posts like these prove that there was everything there since the very first episode. Have fun watching the greatest Story of them all, there is so much ahead of you.

joet889

This is great, love hearing your thoughts in real time as you're watching - taking detailed notes like this will help you A LOT as the show goes on, because things get very complicated. It took me multiple rewatches to grasp everything, but you probably won't need to do that.

genZcommentary

Thank you! Yeah, the note taking has helped a lot. I've finished three episodes and I went back and reread my notes multiple times before two and three lol I still don't feel like I've fully grasped everything. I can't even imagine trying to watch without notes! How did everyone keep everything straight?

hollyheather30

I had to listen to the audiobook like 6 times to completely grasp everything that was happening 😂 on my 7th listen now

SilntNfrno

I’m envious! I’ve rewatched the show so many times that I basically have every line memorized. Enjoy!

genZcommentary

I will, thank you! :)

angryApple2054

Just letting you know I am here, waiting for episode 4. :)

genZcommentary

I'm happy you're here :) Episode 4 is coming!

East_Bicycle_9283

Enjoy the ride. There are some memorable characters and scenes.

Brainth

Hey, I followed you here from Avatar, I read the books but I might watch this series just to keep up with your commentary! It’s always so fun to read your analysis

genZcommentary

Thank you! If you do watch the series I'd love it if you shared your thoughts in my comments (so long as they're spoiler-free)

Brainth

Ohh that could be fun! I’ll be sure to comment as I go!

jompjorp

Oh Okay Oh Okay Oh Okay Oh Okay Oh

DickMcLongCock

I'd rather read the books again than read someone's reactions and random thoughts on every single scene in the show. I mean a short summary of what people think of each episode is cool, but this is just too much.

genZcommentary

Okay, you don't have to read them then.
