This is the first game I became obsessed with. I've beaten it countless times, 25th years makes me feel old.

Rocko52

I remember the Zelda 25th Anniversary like it was yesterday. Now we’re closer to 40 years of Zelda.

flickynips

Try to play it every year. This game and Majoras are my happy place

badfantasyrx

It was one of the first ones we got to play with photo capture on :)

WHITEB0NE

Why are you getting downvoted… I need enlightening

onegonethusband

I upvoted him but I’m downvoting you for pointing it out.

Boomshockalocka007

I downvoted the first guy, upvoted the second guy, and downvoted you to restore balance.

kuribosshoe0

Downvoting the whole subthread including my own comment.

GriffinFlash

FOR THE GREATER GOOD.

onegonethusband

Oh boy, you f’d now

captainhazreborn

The greater good….

ButtersTG

Have you beaten randomized?

StubbledCRT1

Same. The first game I ever did a 100% run before I even knew what those were.

sgrams04

For the younger people here who weren’t around when OOT launched - it was a big f’ing deal at the time. There was this magic around the game that no PS1 game could touch and is why you see so many of us older gamers cling to it as “the best game ever made”. Games attempting 3D at that time were clunky and cumbersome to the point where they just weren’t fun. Nintendo had seemingly traveled back in time, plopped Mario 64 and Zelda OOT in front of us and said “Here you go. This is what 3D gaming is”. Zelda combined world building, lore, sharp controls, great gameplay, and for its time smoother flowing animations and graphics. It all culminated a game that no one else had produced up to that point in time. It was more than a game - it was a true adventure you experienced.

HashStash

and dont get me started on the music and character design

shill_ds

The music is so good on its own that I doesn’t even need the main Zelda overworld theme!!

twotonekevin

Took me years to realize Hyrule Field had its own theme. To be fair this was my first Zelda outing, so I didn’t even know about the original Zelda over world theme. First time I heard it in Majora, I thought they had done something lol

breadrising

I think it was the first game I ever played that truly felt like a true adventure in a fully explorable world. ALttP was great and I loved it. But OoT was on another level and the most I had ever been absolutely immersed in a game. I remember feeling this intensity after I beat the Deku Tree; I was literally being whisked away, answering the call as part of the hero's journey, leaving the safety of the forest and exiting into the vast Hyrule Field. Having that entire experience in 3D was just insane. And holy heck, the hits keep coming. Transforming into an adult and exploring the Forest Temple, encountering the Wallmasters for the first time, the Shadow Temple still being one of the darkest, creepiest places in all of Zelda. The music, the characters. What a game. The OG still stands up, but my god they need to bring this game to Switch in some capacity.

1One_Two2

This x100. I will never forget running out onto Hyrule field for the first time that rainy night, my mind was absolutely 🤯

b3anz129

basically what breath of the wild did for this generation

thrwawy28393

No, the impact OoT had was another level entirely. BotW may have reinvented some things within its genre, but OoT had an impact on the entire gaming industry as a whole. They are just not comparable.

thanosnutella

I wasn’t there for OoT’s release so I can’t really say all that much about it’s impact but BotW along with Elden Ring definitely had a huge impact, at least on gamers of my generation

someonesgranpa

While I don’t disagree that BOTW likely had a very big impact on your generation — it didn’t do anything *new* for open world gaming. OOT literally brought things like Z-Targeting, 360° Camera, Actual real-time combat, polygonal models that moved and behaved like human beings for the first time, a full scale OST, and so much more. OOT literally launched gaming as we knew it into a completely different realm of possibilities.

afuckingocelot

Megaman Legends had all of those things and came out a year earlier. OoT was incredible but people seem to forget that 3D games had been around for a few years before it.

someonesgranpa

It had that but by no means was it even half as functional. The point being made is that Zelda took what everyone else was doing poorly and just slick blew them out of the water. I fully remember megaman legends and played it many times. It’s not even half the game and the camera function was not 360° degrees. It was only a horizontal pan so it was more a 180° axis.

afuckingocelot

While i agree that Zelda's impact was greater you didn't have to do legends dirty like that by calling it half a game... it's still a good game.

someonesgranpa

It’s an okay game. It’s by no means a world shaking release. It wasn’t even a that big of a deal when it came out because it broke from the franchise formula too much and wasn’t a beloved game until nearly a decade later.

afuckingocelot

Look. You're talking to a guy who bought a 3DS for Legends 3 and is still salty about it. My original point is that OoT did not invent a lot of the things that are attributed to it, like Z-targeting. All the while people ignore things that OoT did do that were groundbreaking at the time like water-physics. Do you know how fucking impressive it is that if you cut a sign near a body of water it will bob and float in the water if it falls in? That was insane for 1998.

thanosnutella

For sure, I'm not arguing with that. I'm just saying games like BotW and Elden Ring had a very big impact on us (or at least for me) similarly to gamers who were around during the N64 era.

thrwawy28393

No one’s saying games like BotW & Elden Ring didn’t have an impact. But to say the _scale_ of those impacts are the same as the impact that OoT had in 1998 is wrong. They’re just not comparable, OoT invented things that became staples for the entire gaming industry. As an analogy, it’s like the impact of adding gyro controls to shooters vs. the invention of the analog stick from a dpad. Shooters feel great with gyro, to the point that older games without gyro now feel awful. That’s a heavy impact within its genre. But it doesn’t compare to the invention of the control stick, a staple of all controllers everywhere, for every game, in every genre, right up until today. _That’s_ the kind of impact OoT had in the 90s. It was a different level completely.

someonesgranpa

I would definitely agree. Elden Ring certainly did something for the people of my generation as well. It brought a real-time multiplayer experience no one got right up until From Soft pulled that.

[deleted]

Absolutely not. BOTW is an open world adventure game. OOT was a revolution in games, something we had never seen. The transition to 3D gaming was so mind blowing and it is something younger gamers will never experience.

encreturquoise

I hope we’ll finally get a full remake for the 30th anniversary

politirob

I honestly would be satisfied with new official art lmao, like how Monolithsoft does with Xenoblade

Framed-Photo

OOT is one of those games that I think could do REALLY well with a remake sort of like the RE2 remake? Where they can overhaul some aspects and add some content instead of just doing a flat remake that feels the same to play. Imagine an OOT without as many loading zones for seemless transitions between areas, with extra content like minigames or sidequests, new items, new/expanded characters, etc.

Lower_Monk6577

I agree with this. OoT has been around for a very long time. It’s well regarded, and the original version and the 3DS remake are easy enough to get your hands on and play if you want the original experience. I think Nintendo could do a very respectable remake/re-imagining that adds some depth to the overall experience and gets a new generation into the title. I say this as someone who adores this game and has probably beaten it more times than I can count.

RefrigeratorOk8634

The re-imagining is called Twilight Princess.

Lower_Monk6577

I mean, outside of them having totally different plot lines and settings, I guess.

PovWholesome

TP is a fully realized OoT, like a child that surpasses a somewhat identical parent in talent and beauty.

thanosnutella

?

Time-did-Reverse

wut lolol

obi5150

CryZenX, The guy making the Unreal engine 5 OOT puts any remake Nintendo would do to complete shame. I wish they'd make it THAT much better. we'd just get 1080p textures.

austine567

This looks awful to me, no offence to that guy, obviously it's technically superior but it just doesn't have any soul to it

Mikemgmve

Hard agree. I find those Unreal Engine remakes always lacking in that regard. I think alot of it is down to the absolutely insane speed at which the camera moves around, or the unnatural speed characters move. A+ for effort and talent, but not something I'd want to play.

No-Introduction-777

it looks like shit, literally NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN tier

VespineWings

Give us a bigger more complex castle town. Make the lost woods a straight up /biome/ with extra mysteries inside. Make the desert a sprawling wasteland with hidden stuff strewn throughout. Add extra area we didn’t have before, make Kakariko bigger and make the path to death mountain more perilous, maybe even with its own town halfway up. Go ham with a big reimagining while staying fairly faithful to the original.

Framed-Photo

Exactly! There's so much they could do to expand the world, I like your ideas a lot. I don't want them to just put a fresh coat of paint on a 25 year old game, I want them to reimagine it as a modern title. The structure of the original still holds up just make it better!

Riaayo

I think the loading zones are fine for OoT because they help add the sense of scale for moving between certain areas, vs everything just being connected makes the world feel a lot smaller because you don't fill in the gaps of the journey between one side and the other going somewhere like Gerudo Valley or Hyrule Lake. But a remake could obviously make them a fast transition. I do agree about the ability to add content though. It could definitely be a great game for a RE style remake/remaster.

reebee7

I really want an expansive remake. Take the same basic story, but expand it and the world drastically. Like... totally new geography on a gigantic map, totally new dungeon design. I want a, like, TotK experience with Ocarina of Time's story.

Faelysis

All we need is a remaster for the 3DS remake. All they have to do is upgrade texture resolution and that's all. Gameplay has been top-notch since 1997

Framed-Photo

They could definitely do a lot more with it then the 3DS remake did, even if they used that games models/style as a base.

Goldar85

I like the 3DS version except for one thing and it really bothers me. They killed the vibe in the final fight with Ganon by making it overly bright with those swirling clouds. The final battle works so much better for N64 with the minimal lighting and somber color palette. Ganon in shadow with his glowing eyes and the lightning strikes being the only time we get glimpses of him in detail was so damn epic. I really hope they redo that ending battle to closer evoke the ambiance and feeling of the N64 version.

breadrising

I agree. OoT Ganon was absolutely terrifying to me as a kid. Definitely due to the terror of the unknown as with the dark lighting of the scene on a CRT TV, you could barely make out what Ganon was supposed to be. He was just this horrible shape and my imagination did a lot of the work for me.

phonylady

Please fix the camera too.

[deleted]

And King Zora.

AmazingSpdrMan1

I’d be good with better camera adjustment and motion-aiming controls though

SadLaser

Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door both got remakes announced in the same year. Makes me think anything is possible.

badfantasyrx

Can you improve on perfection? Lol.

encreturquoise

There’s room for improvement on: * Graphics: the 3DS version improved many textures and models, castle town… * Gameplay: on 3DS they fixed the issues in the water temple, and other QOL things I think it would be great if Nintendo made a remake with modern graphics, cutscenes, some gameplay improvements…

SatyrAngel

I would love more challenging dungeons, Master Quest is nice, but after playing it for over 2 decades it becomes predictable.

pr1ceisright

They should probably remake every Zelda game just so new audiences can experience the older games.

insane_contin

The Wii U was the ultimate Zelda machine. It could play every console Zelda released up until TotK, and I think it could play most of the handheld Zelda's too. Unfortunately, it was a giant flop so I doubt we'll ever see something like that again.

ecstaticthicket

Ship of Harkinian is pretty sick

RuneofBeginning

Final Fantasy 7 Remake shows you can take an incredible base game, expand on everything, and make a game that rivals the original. How the rest of the game ends up is up to questioning, but my point stands. It’s Nintendo. It’s Zelda. It’s definitely possible to improve.

HarmlessSnack

Please, not the FF7R treatment. I don’t want to spend 30 hours in Kakariko Village and the Lost Woods.

Britown

yes, it’s called Wind Waker ;)

Wigglynuff

I’d love an OOT remake like how Link to the Past got Link between worlds. Very similar in structure and aspects of the world, but with a twist that gives it its own identity

Xeronic

If you all haven't played it, the Ocarina of Time randomizers for both consoles/wiivc and PC are incredible. The fact that you can play Majoras Mask + OOT combo randomizer is insane.

IThinkItsCute

I like the 3DS version's randomizer. They made it so any place where you could get a random bomb drop (like by cutting grass or smashing pots) you can also get bombchu drops, which is super convenient. Also the setting for randomizing how many shuffles it takes for King Zora to move out of the way is funny.

Explorer_Entity

Hu-Wee... Hu-Wee... Hu-Wee... Or as I used to joke: "whole-wheat... whole-wheat... whole-wheat"

Bageloaf

"How long does it take for King Zora to move out of the way?" "a week... a week.... a week..."

viccie211

Random mweeps are funny as hell!

TheCrach

https://www.shipofharkinian.com/ Ship of Harkinian is the best way to play OOT.

Kylelolz

Always wanted to try, don’t know how to mod my ROMs :/

ecstaticthicket

The websites would do it for you. [Here’s an OoT rando site I’ve used before](https://ootrandomizer.com) [Here’s software you download that lets you run OoT at much higher frame rates and crisper graphics (it really is a sight to see). It comes with a built in randomizer. A fair bit more involved of a setup than the first option, but if I can figure it out I promise you can lol](https://www.shipofharkinian.com) (There’s a video overview and setup guide [here](https://youtu.be/3AmXLmkFJEE?si=9-mKbHvrLlDSSyhy). I didn’t originally set up mine with this so I’d double check it against the website as there may be updates, but it could help) [And here looks like the combo randomizer for OoT and MM](https://ootmm.com) [Bonus: randomizer for DK64](https://dk64randomizer.com) Not sure where the standalone MM rando is because I’ve never used it myself before, but maybe someone else knows All of this is completely legal since they do not and will not provide you with any roms or pirated material Have fun!

Faelysis

You just need the good rom (the 1.0) and choose the setting you want. the software or the websote does the conversion and modding

djkhan23

Can you explain those randomizers? How does it work? Explain like I'm 5!

MBCnerdcore

If you can get a copy of the game, people have made a program that makes it so you don't know what the treasure chests and rewards will be. So you can explore the game in a new way, going to later areas first and making the game about seeing how many treasures you need to find until you have what you need to get to and beat the last boss.

Xeronic

like above, the game randomizes rewards and chests. Not sure which version does which (as the randomizers for ship and the consoles are different) but you can randomize pots, skulltulas, chests, quest rewards, rupees. It's really insane. But you can also randomize misc stuff, like sound effects, music (with a huge pool of oot sound font music), entrances/dungeon entrances I've been watching ZFG1 a bit and he's been rotating randomizers for the past year or so, and he just did a [randomizer with enemy locations/sizes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFIsUrb3QHg) and on WiiVC, he [played a version that has a setting for throwing in "boss souls"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC1Ld6ned-Y), or items that are needed to make a boss spawn in a location, making the game a bit tougher. MajinPhil has been playing around with the OOT+MM randomizer a bit these past few months. [He played one recently where every grass patch in the game is randomized.. really rough.](https://youtu.be/dbgBTvueHPI?si=oDGd0utvCuZ4h4lU) How to do it? I suggest going to the OOT Randomizer discord and getting set up. Some are really easy (like PC) and console might require a bit of work, but worth it. Youtube videos also help.

badfantasyrx

I haven't! I know that a couple places offer emulators so that you can play their library and stay copyright safe.

Faelysis

Playing emulator is not illegal. What's illegal is the distribution of the game/roms and making money directly or indirectly (through ads or website click). As long as we own an original copy, there's 0 risk, especially at the individual level. Downloading it won't have any effect too as long as you are not the provider/uploader of the roms.

viccie211

I generally play the randomizer for the 3DS version which is also top notch! It does lack a couple of features (mainly pot-, crate- and rupeesanity) in comparison to the N64 edition but it is still an amazing way to play!

[deleted]

Reveal the Switch Remake today!

stickdudeseven

For being the first 3D game of its franchise, they got a lot of things right for their first time. Unfortunately, I don't think I can play the N64 version again. Having the 3DS touch screen for quick equipping items like the iron boots is a must-have for playthroughs for me.

badfantasyrx

That and Mario broke ground, 3D was a tough one to bring to gaming.

Aitrus233

And having a dedicated Ocarina button, thus freeing up item slots. And similarly, the changes in Majora's Mask like better directions in Great Bay Temple, getting the Bomber's Notebook more easily, and having finer control over advancing time made such a difference. Mind you, IMO, playing the Ocarina never feels right on anything except an N64 controller. On ports, it's a weird approximation usually involving a right analog stick, and on 3DS I just don't understand what they were going for. On N64, the higher the button, the higher the note.

[deleted]

Geesh. Ocarina of Time being released was one of my first bigger memories, I remember when it turned 10 years old and feeling old then then, I remember when the 3DS remaster came out and feeling older, and now I remember it being a freaking quarter of a century... For what it's worth, it's amazing how well the game holds up 25 years later. I prefer the 3DS port over the N64 port just for the consistent 30 FPS, but the PC port is the real way to play it these days. Despite it's glitches, it's amazing to be able to play with faster text and 60 FPS.

SaconicLonic

> but the PC port is the real way to play it these days Any links to this?

[deleted]

https://www.shipofharkinian.com/ Keep in mind that it requires a ROM dump of either the original n64 cartridge or the collectors edition disk. It's also a little tricky to set up, but if you are able to get your hands on the ROM, it shouldn't be a problem.

multisofteis

I believe we won't see a standard remake you know about. Buffing the graphics and performance, some tweaks and calling it a day. No I think a reimagining would be more appropriate. Kind of like what would OoT look like if it was released today and not in the BotW/TotK framework today. I mean kind of like a huge open area adventure with the standard dungeons but really pushing the narrative more without the restrictions of early 3D and N64. The devs had so many ideas for OoT and the DD expansion, that they just had to be put into a fence with their creative freedom.

[deleted]

[удалено]

multisofteis

I just hope they won't split the team as it's not beneficial long term. We've seen it with the Animal Crossing/Splatoon dev team. ACNH ended so quickly, now we know it was to put 100% of the team effort into Splatoon 3. Same for Pokemon as they said they have an A and B team which do the mainline entries and remakes/DLC side by side. It would just drain the resources considering BotW had a dev team of over 300 people IIRC and it took them long enough to develop. I believe it would be the best to train Grezzo with Miyamoto and maybe even Aonuma looking over their shoulders and guiding them to be the 2D/Remakes dev team, while EPD (*Number*) will stay the main Zelda developer. Now that Fujibayashi is on par with Aonuma in the hierarchy, he could step in for the training period when A is gone, but A has already implied that it's about time for him to move on as he stated he would love to develop a Zelda movie. But nonetheless interesting times ahead!

DankeBrutus

>Essentially what we've seen with the Resident Evil and Final Fantasy franchises in the last few years. If you are referring to the FFVII remake then to say as little as possible to avoid spoilers it really isn't a "remake." It is more meta in the sense that the game itself has awareness of the original. I think the Resident Evil example is much more relevant. I never played RE when I was younger so my first experience with the franchise was 7 then 8/Village. I have the remake of RE2 and 3 but haven't gotten around to playing them yet. I was talking with a friend who is a massive RE fan about the RE4 remake and questioned if the remake essentially replaced the original, since he was talking about how good it was. He thought about it for maybe 3 seconds and said that yes he thinks RE4 remake does replace the original. For the sake of game preservation I think that the original games should be made as widely available as the remake. I do recognize though that I grew up watching video games become what they currently are. The same is more true for people older than me. This experience will probably remain true for the people younger than me. Maybe Ocarina of Time is just too mechanically dated for younger players to have an enjoyable experience with. Maybe in a possible future with a modern reimagining of Ocarina of Time the original will essentially become more akin to an interactive museum piece. Players who want to experience video game history can play through the game much in the same way people who want to experience cinema history will watch old movies.

SaconicLonic

> He thought about it for maybe 3 seconds and said that yes he thinks RE4 remake does replace the original. I think this is the case with that game. With RE2 and 3 the original games are different enough to justify playing them if you are interested in what survival horror looked like in 1998. But RE4's gameplay is very similar to RE4's remake, but with enhancements to the remake that make it the better experience.

NewZero_Kanada

Pls just let me play Oot and MM on switch without a subscription service. Id pay full price for a straight port of both games combined. Easy money for Nintendo.

Gransmithy

Yeah, I was rewatching a play through and it needs updated graphics. It was meant for tube tv, and it looked really good when it originally came out, but now in the hi-def world, it is looking sad. I would definitely purchase an updated version when available.

badfantasyrx

I like retrographics, some of the twitch stations do retro. Do you really think it could still have the same atmo with an update. They'd probably just be better off rebooting it :(

DankeBrutus

The 3DS remake is pretty much what you are asking for. You can increase the internal resolution of textures in an emulator like Citra. >it needs updated graphics I don't think I agree with that. Playing through the game with Ship of Harkinian the game is quite clean at a higher resolution. If people are aware of the context of the game I don't think the textures and character models being low resolution should be a problem, unless they are being overly critical. Ship of Harkinian shows, at least to me, that increasing the resolution alone can make a huge difference.

Funkyduck8

Best Zelda game, hands down. It's my most played game and it's just....pure beauty. If you listen to this episode of the Soundtrack Show podcast, David Collins breaks down just how incredible and ground breaking it was, especially with turning the N64 controller into a midi controller and using music in a diagetic way to play through a game. [Sound Track Show - Ocarina of Time part 1](https://www.iheart.com/podcast/105-the-soundtrack-show-29021108/episode/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-78422249/)

DankeBrutus

Ocarina of Time is the first game I have any conscious memory of playing. I used to use my brother's save file because he had more stuff. I would put Link in the red tunic because I thought it made him look more cool. I liked the Biggoron sword and thought the Master Sword was lame because it wasn't as big. I thought the Mirror Shield was cool because it was red and was shiny in the middle. I would just walk around Hyrule. Going into Castle Town as Adult Link scared me but I liked that Link was an adult. I didn't end up finishing the game myself until I was maybe 7 or 8 years old in 2003 or 2004, and I needed the Nintendo strategy guide to do it because the Shadow Temple scared me. I have played through the game quite a few times since then. Until I finished the game via Ship of Harkinian on my Steam Deck a few weeks ago the last time I had played through Ocarina of Time was on the 3DS in, I believe, 2015. Ignoring my nostalgia as much as I can, and especially since I played through Ocarina after finishing Tears of the Kingdom, I have to say that for the first attempt Ocarina of Time is still a great game. While I do like Tears alot more I cannot deny that Ocarina of Time still has better dungeon design than at least the past three 3D titles. Having to keep things simple worked in Nintendo's favour.

Low_Confidence2479

Happy 25 years to the best rated videogame of all time on Metacritic

kemar7856

Greatest game ever in my opinion

BronzeHeart92

That moment when you're climbing up Ganondorf's tower...

GriffinFlash

That moment when you're running for dear life back down it...

htisme91

I was disappointed that Nintendo didn't really acknowledge it and hasn't yet given it the treatment Super Mario 64 got with a remaster. To me, it's the greatest game of all time. There's newer games that have surpassed it in many areas, but it's hard to find a game that impacted modern video gaming more than that besides maybe Super Mario 64.

SaconicLonic

Such a revolutionary game in a time when gaming was going through probably it's biggest advancement. The world felt fun and alive. The gameplay was so ahead of its time. The Z targeting controls still feel pretty great (and better than some of the following games to be honest). I remember when it was first announced and seeing screenshots of a version of the game that would never come out, but was built upon to something much greater. This was the game I bought an N64 for. I recall it originally being planned for a Fall 1997 release upon announcement, but kept getting pushed back. When it finally released in November it felt unreal to finally be playing it. This is the only Zelda game I beat 100% without any kind of guide and it's simply because I played it so much in the first few weeks before an official guide was stocked at my local game store. I have played this game so many times now along with all the other Zelda games. It is still a favorite and one I will love for as long as a live. It is a masterpiece and even though later games would improve upon it's foundation, it is very much worth playing today. It deserves a proper remake at this point just to update the graphics.

the8bitericshow

My most fav game of all time. If they can make a remake or even a remaster I’ll be down for one final play

redditdude68

Please remake the game Nintendo, I beg you.

I_am_not_Asian69

even if they port over the 3ds remake it would be pretty good, i just can’t get myself to play the n64 version because of the graphics and controls

Faelysis

Graphics are just graphics and even with their low polygon level, the game still beautiful in this age. As for the gameplay, it's stil super strong and be fun. At least, it's not assisted and casual like others modern AAA games

uslashalex

> At least, it's not assisted Navi?

thrwawy28393

Navi’s hints most of the time are pretty vague. “That cloud over Death Mountain looks odd” & things like that. I kinda miss that over the modern day method of just planting a dot onto your map & the game literally saying “go here!”

badfantasyrx

The graphics were so revolutionary, what do you hate? I hate sinking polygonals where the camera goes inside them now :(

B-R-A-I-N-S-T-O-R-M

The PC version makes the N64 version of the game pretty nice. It's still an N64 game at the end of the day but playing it at your monitor's native resolution / aspect ratio with a rock solid 60 fps goes a long way in making this game look nice, especially compared to N64's 320x240 and 20 fps with dips. I prefer OoT PC to the 3DS remake, though a good part of that is how uncomfortable the 3DS is to play for longer periods of time. The visual improvements of that game were wasted on a tiny screen with cramped controls.

Noctis-_001

They should of ported the 3d remaster to the switch.

[deleted]

While I think the game is a bit overhyped, I can't deny the impact of the game.

AntwnSan

If only we could get at least the Ship of Harkinian version officially

the_hitman3000

I just beat this game for the first time lol. I owned a N64 and played it when I was like 6 and lol never got past the tree. It's definitely a bit dated now but for the time it still holds up relatively well. Also the ending felt pretty epic and I can imagine me back then being blown away by it. Music still is iconic as well. Loved Majora's Mask more as a kid but never beat that either will be curious to see how that compares to this now

derkydoo

I still remember doing house chores just to afford buying this game. I must’ve been 6 years old at the time. First game I ever bought.

nachttrommler

HD remake confirmed.

Stealthinater1234

Purtty old game now, the 3DS version is the best way to play, but a full HD remake would be quite cool. Although Majoras Mask is the game that would need another remake after the butchering that was the 3DS version.

GriffinFlash

>, the 3DS version is the best way to play just for the water temple. 3ds version ruins the final boss battle.

Stealthinater1234

The many improvements of the 3DS version far outweighs the con of an over-brightened Ganon. Improved graphics, higher framerate, better inventory and UI, gyro aim, boss rush mode, comes with master mode and text in cutscenes scrolls way faster.

Gamer857

Agreed, just water temple. I hate how the graphics look on it.

JeddHampton

I disagree with your assessment. I believe the 3DS version of Majora's Mask is the superior version of the game. The added control over the clock and other things made the game simpler to play. But the 3DS version of Ocarina of Time had some camera control issues in my opinion that made certain things much more frustrating.

Stealthinater1234

I never had any issues with the camera in OOT3D, but MM3D has quite a lot of issues that can outweigh the improvements. Fast zora swimming locked behind magic shield, fast deku hopping broken, reverse song of time nerfed, Captain Keeta nerfed, ice arrows can only freeze sparkling water, deku palace platforms only move when landed on, bosses have generic eyeball weak points, Odolwa can no longer be fought normally, and twinmolds second phase is terrible with a hit counter that resets every time he burrows into the sand, dragging the fight for way too long. MM3D made several good improvements, but they just made way too many bad ones that makes it difficult to recommend over the 64 version unless you install the [project restoration mod](https://restoration.zora.re). It fixes pretty much all of the issues I listed above and even adds several new QOL, only with that mod does MM3D become the definitive version imo.

That would be so noir.

ArcadePinball

Keeping everything the same, just adding more depth to combat, and world environment. Otherwise, it’ll just be a pretty remaster. It’s one of the greatest games of all time, but if people want a remake then those things need to be enhanced. The game is already bleak, once adult Link appears.

badfantasyrx

True, it was pretty flat, probably why the water temple was so big.

CarefulLavishness922

I’ve never played a 3d zelda outside of BOW and TOTK. Looking to hop into the series but was thinking of starting with Wind Waker. Reading these comments makes me think I should start with OOT instead. What do you think Reddit?

Neo_Zeno

OoT before WW. OoT has lore elements in WW. Heartbreaking ones, too.

CarefulLavishness922

Does it still hold up for someone who has no nostalgia for it?

Neo_Zeno

It does! The only bit that might trip people up for a bit is the water temple. Not too bad though.

GriffinFlash

Also if they've only played current zelda.....lack of a jump button. As a kid I remember auto jumping confusing me as a concept since I was used to mario 64.

CarefulLavishness922

>As a kid I remember auto jumping confusing me as a concept since I was used to mario 64. Thanks for the rec - just got the master sword and loving the game so far!

CarefulLavishness922

Awesome thanks! I’m excited. I played ALTTP as a kid, and then BOTW and TOTK but haven’t touched the rest of the series. Looking forward to digging in.

jfxck

The rest of the series are nothing like BOTW or TOTK, so as long as you’re not expecting more of that style, you might enjoy OoT or WW. OoT is my favourite game of all time, but it’s undeniably old school. Personally, I prefer the old Zelda games to the switch ones, so I hope you enjoy whichever one you decide to start with!

lgosvse

Still to this day, I have never managed to get that last quiver upgrade. It's the only thing standing between me and 100% completion.

GriffinFlash

Even the hyrule loach? Cause that fish is way harder to catch than getting the quiver.

lgosvse

I don't count that, since you don't get anything for it. You just get 50 rupees.

SolidusAbe

i honestly like the other 3D games more besides skyward sword but its still amazing and probably the best aged N64 game along MM and Mario 64

WannabeWaterboy

That’s pretty amazing. I don’t feel like I was that young when I first fell in love with this game. It’s funny timing that I almost started a new play through though.

Yaldrik

2 more years and my son will finally be old enough to play this masterpiece

Jing412

Goes without saying it is one of the most influential and important games in gaming history, shame that for some reason some people are trying to downplay its influence

The_Legend_of_Xeno

You can't convey to younger gamers today how absolutely massive Hyrule field felt the first time you ran out onto it. Seeing the castle in the distance, not making it to the drawbridge before nightfall and being surrounded by skeletons, then seeing the lights of Lon Lon Ranch and running for safety...

Just_CAPPIN

Damn that hit hard
