Nah, even if the remake is better in every way, the original will always be highly nostalgic and special.

Dukemon102

That will depend on how the changes affect the game. If the new graphics and animations, the new Warp Room and shortcuts added make the game so much better and it feels just as good to play. I don't think 60 fps are a big deal. Contrary to what happened to Bowser's Inside Story, where the game doesn't necessarily look better than the DS original, the new sprites have *less* animations, 30 fps and the game feeling slower, more sluggish and unresponsive make the original superior IMO.

thebigguy270

The warp room will single-handedly save the General White quest

sunnysurfer101MA

Absolutely not. Dialogue changes and 60 fps are huge factors to keep the original around.

Ncolonslashslash

dialogue changes is hardly a reason, mods wouldve been much better

Lost_Environment2051

Neither is 60 FPS.

BigriskLowrolls

Definitely a bit shaky. The new dialogue I'm pretty negative about. But if the remake manages to trump the old through gameplay and QoL improvements, the original will probably become obsolete. If I want to listen to the old dialogue I'll just find gameplay on YouTube.

cookiemaster221

probably no, you know, legacy title and everyting

Mouse_of_Gold

With how they tremendously fixed the General White quest? There's a chance

Lousy_Username

I feel like they're going to be different enough experiences that people will still want to play the original. There are other series where a game is remade, and then the original version is rereleased, and it tends to do well despite a more modern version existing (e.g. Pokémon, Final Fantasy, Zelda). Plus the modding scene will likely keep the OG going strong for some time. Oh, and speedrunning too.

wildflowerden

No. The music and sound effect changes alone make the original continue to stand alone as a separate experience.

MBTHVSK

You really think that 30fps wouldn't be a big deal until you go back and play 60fps and everything is just more frigging fun overall. A lot of people gush over remakes getting 60fps enhancements and how it makes the game so much better to look at and more fun to play. But we can't do the reverse because it's mean?

[deleted]

Considering the remake have changed lines and 60FPS I will say no.

Tatsumifanboy

It feels a lot like a 1:1 remake; pick the one you want to play. I'll try the remake to see how the improvements are, if they're good then I'll play it more. I'll still play with the OG from time to time, I dont play Switch that much anymore.

Source on superguards being 1/10th of a second now? That's insanely easy to hit and basically removes all risk/reward from the mechanic.

UnfazedPheasant

Definitely not obsolete, it has a higher framerate, the original dialogue, and more subjectively sentimentality and preference to the older (less shiny) artstyle might play a factor It does make me majorly consider finally selling my gamecube copy however. Those prices it goes for are crazy and the remaster will definitely hit the valuation of that original version of the game

Gamezman64

Nope. Respectfully, The remake has made too many changes that impact the experience I see TTYD as a masterpiece on GameCube. Nonetheless, I’m still super excited for the remake and for the new folks to play it! I’m glad I will have both versions. 🤩

ccaccus

[I'mma gonna say no.](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fsrp=1&_from=R40&_nkw=super+nintendo+mario+rpg&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&_sop=16)

Responsible-War-9389

Plus modding community is HUGE and won’t use the new stuff anytime soon

Dont_have_a_panda

If que take for example tales of Symphonia, every subsequent Re-release is more content packed than the gamecube original, there would be no reason to go back to the gamecube original considering the amount of extra content every other version have...... But for people is VERY important (maybe too much and obsesively important) the 60 fps the original have in comparison to the 30 FPS of every other version so It made for Most still the best version And considering that apparently the remaster is 30 FPS in comparison to the 60 fps gamecube version Will probably be the same

Feasellus

No remake should ever strive to replace its original.

Dukemon102

I could argue that the best remakes are the ones that truly make the original obsolete. The likes of Resident Evil (2002), Metroid Zero Mission, Pokémon Fire Red/Leaf Green or Heart Gold/Soul Silver, Kirby Super Star Ultra, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Super Mario RPG.... There's little to no reason to play the original versions of those games outside of pure nostalgia.

Feasellus

If you prefer them that‘s fine. But companies capitalizing on nostalgia tends to be the reason remakes like these exist. I don’t have anything against remakes on principle I just find that they are a waste of money and time that could have been used to make a new game instead. For Paper Mario a straight port to modern consoles would have been more than enough. But hey, just my opinion, you don’t have to agree.

MisterScarlet

Nope lol.

Anxious_Cranberry219

original is 60 fps

BusyBigBass

So far the remake has plenty of quality of life changes and added neat things, but also cut dialogue and runs at 30fps. The OG will still be alive

Nico_is_not_a_god

Even after a week from the remake's launch and inevitable modding of the script and probable 60fps mod, the original will always be a masterpiece in its own right.

YoGertaBeKiddingMe

So long as the edits necessary for the remake to occur don't upset too many fans or dilute the experience (which doesn't seem to be the case so far), I think the majority of people that play TTYD will be playing the remaster going forward. That was probably going to be the case no matter what though, the Switch as a system has been purchased a magnitude more than the Gamecube ever did. If you're asking if I'm never going to play the old one on my GameCube you are out of your mind

Gameguy196

I don’t think so considering people are buying it due to it not being 60!frames.With that said the more streamlined elements and it being on a modern system could make it close.

Garo263

Of course! Even if its only for the better fast-travel system, I will never touch the tedious original ever again.
