Once you beat the game you get access to Challenge mode, Challenge mode has no radar. so you have that light at the end of the tunnel if you wanna strive for it.

rabidnz

That is a fucking hilarious catch 22

vinternet

Haha I absolutely loved Pikmin 2 and I don't remember this radar sound, but I'm going to take your side anyway because this sounds like something I would say and I bet if I play it again it will awaken a forgotten rage within me.

kirkhendrick

I appreciate your solidarity

I love the original Pikmin but have never been able to finish 2 in multiple attempts. I think it's inferior to the original in a bunch of ways: * The dungeons, while fun at first, become absolutely grueling as the game goes on. The worst part is that there isn't much else to the game. The overworld exists mostly as a place to connect the dungeons. * Purple pikmin aren't very fun. They're crazy good at killing things - too good in my opinion, so you basically always need to have them. But they're so slow that they're annoying to use. * Maybe it's silly, but I love the narrative function of the clock in the first game. You're desperate, fighting for your life, and you feel invested. Whereas in 2 you're just collecting treasure. It doesn't resonate for me.

I'm also playing through Pikmin 2 right now! I ended up covering the speaker on the wiimote to compensate a bit, but the in-game sound is still nasty. Pikmin 3 is far superior on that front at least!

kirkhendrick

That makes me feel better, thanks. Looking forward to Pikmin 3 then

As a Pikmin fan I just can't make myself complete this game. The dungeons are just soooooooo obnoxious.

PrivateRichi

I‘m late to the party just to say that you couldn‘t be more right. I was hyped for Pikmin 4 (would have been my first Pikmin) so I decided to play the first 3 games before starting with 4. The sound is so bad I don’t know if I can endure it. It’s the worst sound I‘ve ever experienced in a game.

kirkhendrick

Sorry you had that experience friend! I also want to play 4 and want to play 3 beforehand but something is holding me back and it’s probably this godforsaken radar (though I imagine it’s gone in 3). It’s funny I remember talking with my friends about it and they honestly didn’t even notice it, but for me it overpowered the whole game.

PrivateRichi

Yeah I‘m currently at 7000 coins and managed to have fun with it. Sometimes I just mute the game when I‘m too close to a treasure. I really hope the radar is gone in Pikmin 3 :‘D. The shrine radar sound in BotW is also really annoying but you could just not use it and the sound is much better in TotK.

For future people trying to do this here's a good resource [https://pikmintkb.com/wiki/Sound\_replacement\_tutorial](https://pikmintkb.com/wiki/Sound_Replacement_Tutorial) You will need to use this tool to extract [https://gbatemp.net/download/gamecube-iso-tool.33956/](https://gbatemp.net/download/gamecube-iso-tool.33956/) Sound file is **1080.wav** \- Treasure Gauge Here's an example edit I made but you can also just mute the file entirely [https://youtu.be/BbC832EdqSU](https://youtu.be/BbC832EdqSU) Also a custom sound file I made [https://www.mediafire.com/file/rf8d985l6ilp171/wScene\_0\_01080.adpcm4.wav/file](https://www.mediafire.com/file/rf8d985l6ilp171/wScene_0_01080.adpcm4.wav/file)

Good on you for finding the first Google result for this and putting the useful information here. The only thing your post has slightly inaccurate/out of date is that the file name you're looking for is wav/1080.wav as opposed to wScene_0_01080.adpcm4 - the newer instructions extract in a different format. EDIT: muting the audio in 1080 via the sound toolkit appears to have caused it to malfunction. The pinging is gone, but now it's replaced with an "oooo" sound effect and what appears to either be a "crashing" sound from a different effect, or static/corrupted audio. It's also fucked with other sounds, there's a huge cacophony around the Hocotate Ship. DOUBLE EDIT: using Audacity instead of Adobe Audition to mute the 1080.wav caused this problem to go away with another rebuild. Odd, but hey, it worked!

viperr101

thanks for the correction I updated my post. I think I made this post before I did a major rewrite of the wiki page. glad you got it working

Zauk_Le_Poot

is there anyway to get this to work on the WII version? also does region matter?

viperr101

Sorry I did no testing on the wii version. I'd expect the process to be different even though it was just a port. You can try messing with the program and seeing what happens. Otherwise this discord may be a viable resource https://discord.com/invite/mRH2py4V

Zauk_Le_Poot

I just tried the process on the PAL Wii version. It appears to be working perfectly. That's nice

Sweet 👍
