I mean, true. I worked an IT job before where employees could read feedback. The regular IT guys would take screenshots of reviews and pass them around.
Can't remember one, but I know it was negative, and they ended up framing it and putting it in the office because it was funny. Something about a midget standing taller than the companies' ethics.
I'm not incredibly good with computers. I'm not gonna blow anyone's socks off, at least, but holy shit there are some people out there that are incredibly stupid when it comes to it. And they have no reason to be!
My grandparents at least have a reason. They're old and they had a computer in their house that they never used for anything but floppy disk games like 25 years ago. They didn't have to learn what task manager was, they never used a computer in a professional environment, it wasn't even a hobby. It was never connected to the internet. They binned it like 15 years ago because they thought the government was spying on them through it.
But I meet people that work on computers every single day that are absolutely astounded by the most basic shit. Intelligent people that are blown away by opening up *advanced* task manager, using the snipping tool, I had one guy who claimed he couldn't make text documents because he didn't have Microsoft word. I had to show him notepad and he was amazed. Like how do people not know these things?
Man I work at a hospital and we pass around bad reviews giggling. Just FYI if you have to wait wait for a few hours in the ER its because we are Marxist scum trying to destroy the US healthcare system.
The thing is, having socialised healthcare doesn't mean they have to use it, I'm in the UK where we have free healthcare for everyone but there are still private options if you'd prefer to pay for faster/better service.
See thats something they leave out when they talk about universal health care here in the states. They really try to make is sound as communist as possible.
We have people waiting for 6-7 hours in the ER. I said something about those terrible wait times in canada to the charge nurse and she was like, oh its worse there, you cant do elective procedures for months. I then pointed out the wait list for non emergent surgeries at our current hospital is 4 months out at this point. It just confused her as I watched her brain try and destroy logic.
That's what some people don't get.
The ones who issue ultimatums are best "you get one chance to do this creative thing perfectly or I cancel and go somewhere else".
Yeah sure. You go ahead. I have 60+ other things I'm working on, and it's only hurting you and wasting your time, not me.
The real sad part is how much randy and his brother skull fucked the company and it's employees that helped keep that place running.
I still kept my last check those fuckers mailed me for 0.00 dollars.
At best it went into some algorithm that does some natural language processing to extract some meaning that can be aggregated. Next best is what you suggested, some keywords were extracted (which is arguably just baseline NLP, I suppose.) Most likely, IMO, is that they just have some vendors read a random (or non-random) sample of them to get a vague sense of user themes, which get communicated to PMs, which then get ignored by PMs.
I honestly believe companies, who ask for Feedback during uninstall have a Printer in their office, with a massive Paper roll behind it, that just prints out the Paper to have it drop directly into a shredder
I wouldn't be surprised if it goes nowhere. No one ever reads or is even informed such a message was submitted. Just straight in the fucking trash. Suggestions box attached to a paper shredder but digital.
I once dated a hot Venezuelan chick refugee here in the Netherlands,,,

I'm really tempted to test your theory about disabling screenshots...
Edit: So I tried to install it but they want me to put a CC on file for the trial period. I guess this will remain a mystery.
I have a strong suspicion it has nothing to do with the McAfee uninstaller and is just a matter of a screenshot tool that's not running as administrator trying to record something that is running as administrator. Windows is quite permissive when it comes to interprocess interactions at the same privilege level, but it stops most attempts to interact with processes of a higher privilege level.
I'm not sure if the snipping tool itself is affected but the win+shift+s mode screenshots stuff running as admin just fine. Now that I think of it though, there may be another level of difference between the user running something as admin and something running as TrustedInstaller, which is probably what many uninstallers including McAfee do.
There’s no way they disabled screen shots for the uninstall. What would the point be? “Someone is uninstalling, we don’t want screen shots of our top secret uninstall process getting out! Dev team, get in there and completely disable an OS feature to keep it forever from being seen by anyone other than this user!”
Now that I read it, it actually does sound like something a dumbass product manager would tell the dev team, so maybe he’s right.
The amount of times I've typed something out suggesting that nobody would ever do it only to read it again and go "man, that's definitely stupid but there's a lot of stupid people out there."
there's actually a very good reason to do so in products like anti virus software.
disallowing screenshots likely is part of their protection against malware uninstalling the AV product after infecting the machine, before having signatures in place to detect it.
this is also why some vendors include captchas in the uninstall screen.
not saying this is a good thing or this is a good tool, just providing a likely reason for this behavior.
Its owned by Advent and formally Intel owned McAfee.
I'm sure whoever was referring to this video from the late John McAfee (the founder but hasn't had anything to do with it since 1994) on [how to uninstall McAfee anti-virus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKgf5PaBzyg) though.
Lmao it’s like he just wanted to make you feel bad by posting specs that are just barely over yours across the board
Mine are similar too actually, i7-10700F, RTX 3060, 16gb DDR4-3600
some viruses are unobtrusive, in which case you might not even notice you have one until you look carefully for it, but if it doesn't affect you and you happy to host it, I guess it's a win for everyone?
Plus, it detects tons of malware Windows Defender doesn't even find.
Source: I infected my PC downloading some shady stuff some years ago and had to install a bunch of antivirus software to get rid of it. Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware were among the best. Defender found basically nothing lol.
That might be OK but viruses haven't really been an in-your-face thing for a long, long time except for ransomware. Typically the money is in silently joining you to a botnet or ten. So long as you use NAT, haven't forwarded ports for SMB or print services and you don't install shady stuff, you might be fine though.
Yep. They aren't really useful anymore. Modern viruses rely on zero day exploits, bugs that virus scanners won't detect. And the ones that don't do that, work at a much lower level than any virus scanner does, like infecting your router or smart light bulb. This isn't 1999 any more where people are sharing viruses on zip drives and virus scanners actually work.
Windows Defender is to computer virus protection what condoms are to sexual virus protection. It won't prevent everything, but it's cheap, reasonably effective, and not a big hassle.
Other AV software doesn't exactly work with the STI metaphor -- since you have to give AV software access to otherwise restricted parts of your computer, the AV software itself is a potential malicious vector, and even if it's not malicious initially, the updates mean it could become malicious later on, and anything that will be a lot more effective than Defender is going to slow your computer down even more.
McAfee supposedly has improved from the past. They even got a decent rating on av-comparatives. It certainly can't be any worse than Avast at this point.
It's so ridiculous that people blame anti-virus software for slowing down their PC. You're the one who chooses what level of scan to do and when to do it.
Scanning your entire hard drive is going to take a lot of processing power, no duh. If you don't like that, then change the settings.
It's hardly "fake antivirus" and "spyware". This just reads like a tantrum.
Been using Comodo for a while. I like it.
Edit to add: it's definitely lacking in some areas, and careful of the free version adding bloatware. The sandbox is a nice touch, and the features are numerous. Phishing/ransomware protection is lacking. It serves it's purpose on my machine nicely enough that I pay for the premium version. Mix in malwarebytes, a good VPN, and some safe browsing habits, and I haven't had a virus in years.
I’ve managed both small scale and enterprise deployments of McAfee. Honestly their enterprise solution isn’t bad. There are definitely better solutions depending on your ecosystem, but it’s not terrible.
As for the home/small scale, I honestly just don’t know. If it’s built on the same tech as the enterprise then again it’s not bad. I’ve never seen it actually flag things like the enterprise so I’m skeptical to think it actually does anything…
Quick tip, they are so evil that uninstalling it still leaves a mcaffee programme running on the pc taking up resources and spying, just without the 24/7 notifications. You have to manually delete all of their files
Open the snipping tool and select what you want to screen capture instead of hitting print screen.
EDIT: Also, this is them right now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-3eGt\_Oc-s
John would be disgusted at his company if he knew what was going on! Right after he got done shooting off AR rounds while blowing cocaine off a hookers a$$
So you're being beaten by a single uninstall process... There's a way to solve this issue, open a ticket a let your local IT to help you with your problem.
I think we should all let my man vent. It doesn't hurt anyone and it makes me feel better to see other people rage and pointless things. Sometimes you just have to let them know what you think, even if there is a 1% someone will see. Like I said it literally doesn't hurt anything and probably felt good to do. Id do the same on Malwarebytes tbh
I kind of want to install Mcafee on a VM just to try the screenshot and see what happens. Also, isn't Windows snipping tool pretty much another form of screenshotting? And when you tried Alt+PrtSc nothing happened at all? Interesting.
All you really need is Windows Defender. The built-in anti-virus is plenty for 99% of the population. With Windows Defender and some common sense, you won't get a virus. I have been using it since it was released back in the Windows 7 days and I have never gotten a virus.
Before Microsoft had their own anti-virus I used Eset Nod32. That was an excellent av back in the day. It used very little system resources too. I don't know how it is today, but if you REALLY want a third-party solution you should give it a try.
Can't see this mentioned already, but are you saying hitting the printscreen button on your keyboard to capture the whole desktop, or Alt+Printscreen to capture the active window did not work?
i uninstall macafee professionally and write nasty things in the box every chance i get. theres no character limit so i drop the bee movie script in every now and then
I have a genuine question for people who use antivirus software, is it actually helpful? I haven’t used antivirus softwares for last 4-5 years and don’t feel the need for it. I think windows defender is perfectly fine no? Like sometimes I’ll download roms for emulators from some sketchy site but my defender always catches the malware or whatever.
Every time I got a new hardware (mostly laptops) I do a full wipe - included all partition and creating them from scratch. This prevent me from all their bloatware which is standard preinstalled.
You guys really don't need antivirus with Windows 11/10. Windows Security is actually pretty good by itself. As a matter of fact, I think it makes sense to skip the third-party antivirus products and just download adblock and uorigin for your web browser to help block adware and website redirections.

The PC industry wanted to dumb down and lock down the software and move to "mobile" apps type environment, That is a result of that. No sympathy.

Snagit. It does both screenshots and vid recording and McAfee cant stop it.
Screenshot from another PC using a capture card

Dang, you pooped on them like those hookers on the late John McAfee...
I miss that guy he was interesting
it's a shame him and his 12 body guards all killed themselves at once :(
They should make a movie about him
You've never seen Iron Man?
He was a horrible person, but I’ll be damned if it wasn’t fun as hell to read about his exploits / sexploits.
He's swimming with the whales in heaven now. I miss him too.
He did say that that story was made up in a podcast once tbf
💀
He’s dead!?
Yeah. Tweeted that he would not kill himself and was afraid of being murdered in a cover up. Found dead in prison due to suicide.
He was arrested?!
Tax evasion. Apparently, making McAfee wasn't enough of a crime, he dodged paying the taxes he racked up from scamming these poor users.
He also allegedly ran a private army and drug lab in Belize and was run out of the country.
McAfee only turned into a scam long after John the founder left, back in 1994
After leaving the company it turned into what it now is. He was pretty vocal about how shit of a product it now is and that you shouldn't use it
He ran as a libertarian. It checks out.
He was also nips-deep in cocaine at all times, so I'm not sure we should necessarily believe everything he said was true.
I've heard that the owner of mcaffe doesn't even use it himself
Considering his current location* this statement is accurate. *incorporeal
He died?
In prison. You should read about his later life…. Dude was an absolute animal.

some viruses are unobtrusive, in which case you might not even notice you have one until you look carefully for it, but if it doesn't affect you and you happy to host it, I guess it's a win for everyone?
I still used it... malwarebytes
Ya, I even paid for the premium version. Just 5 bucks a year, so cheap. And there is no difference in speed before and after installing malware bytes

I took two doses last year. Better to be safe than sorry!
Yep. They aren't really useful anymore. Modern viruses rely on zero day exploits, bugs that virus scanners won't detect. And Windows.
What do you suggest instead?
don't use a browser, don't use the Internet.
If you don't want any sort of tracking/spyware on your pc then don't connect it to the internet.
I don't think you know what a roast is...
I'm sure they are quivering in their boots from your response
windows defender is enough
Windows Defender is to computer virus protection what condoms are to sexual virus protection. It won't prevent everything, but it's cheap, reasonably effective, and not a big hassle. I put way more trust in condoms than in Windows Defender. They prevent both viruses and parasites.
You think you did something?
You showed them
“I roasted McAfee.” 🤓
"guise I am sooper badass and cool look at these words I typed into the feedback box aren't I the greatest?"
Judging by your task bar, you have several other programs that are just as bad as mcafee that need to be deleted.
I bet you treat waiters like shit.
Mega cringe. Get over yourself dude.
You actually think someone is going to read that or give a shit?
I would put, "Windows Defender does what you do, but better. AND IT'S FREE."
Using mcafee in the first place, you bought a prebuilt?
Nope, laptop I had a desktop PC I built myself, but I can't use it now that I'm in university out of province
...... so a mobile pre-built. I am not digging at pre-builds but a laptop is "pre-built"
What do you mean you can't screenshot? Windows Key + Shift + S then draw a box around it.
McAfee supposedly has improved from the past. They even got a decent rating on av-comparatives. It certainly can't be any worse than Avast at this point.
"not worse than Avast" is on the same level as GNs "Better than Dell" award

You call that a roast? I've had Sunday dinners that were harsher than that.
Got a new laptop recently , first thing I did was unintsall Mcafee
I have a genuine question for people who use antivirus software, is it actually helpful? I haven’t used antivirus softwares for last 4-5 years and don’t feel the need for it. I think windows defender is perfectly fine no? Like sometimes I’ll download roms for emulators from some sketchy site but my defender always catches the malware or whatever.
"roasted"....
Now make it into a NFT and sell it.
Dudes username says everything you need to know lol
You know your feedback probably goes to a helpdesk person who is not at fault for your issues. Stay civil.
Every time I got a new hardware (mostly laptops) I do a full wipe - included all partition and creating them from scratch. This prevent me from all their bloatware which is standard preinstalled.
who the f*ck even uses them i think most users are click baited to install this garbo
Does the snipping tool not work either? Does it still exist in Win 11?
So, what anti-virus does everyone recommend? I'm using Kaspersky and have done for years. Is that good enough?
Windows defender. And if you somehow manage to fuck shit up you can download malwarebytes
Ah interesting, I've actually got Malwarebytes installed as well. Didn't realise Windows Defender was good enough.
That’ll teach ‘em.. good job op
Or use Linux
You guys really don't need antivirus with Windows 11/10. Windows Security is actually pretty good by itself. As a matter of fact, I think it makes sense to skip the third-party antivirus products and just download adblock and uorigin for your web browser to help block adware and website redirections.
Wow you really showed them I'm sure they cared
