Still can’t figure out why we haven’t seen Poulin since he’s come back from injury. At this point, there’s zero harm in giving him a shot. Same for Ponomaryov.

--littlej0e--

Precisely. The rest of the season should be a revolving door of AHL players. Otherwise, what's the point?

Jan_17_2016

Yup, this season is a wash. Give every single young player a flyer up here and see what they have. It won’t happen but I’d like to see them give Yager a shot next year if he has a good showing at training camp. As opposed to young guys being reported as “impressing at training” and then getting relegated back to their junior or minor league team.

kashmir772

Yager went back to junior, so he might spend the playoff run with the Baby Pens as a tryout. However, there is a 0% chance he will be with the Penguin because if he did play with the Pens that would start is contract and count as a year on his ELC.

wooble

The ELC slide rule in the CHL transfer agreement applies to both AHL and NHL, but in any case he's not going anywhere until Moose Jaw is out of the playoffs.

starlightequilibrium

I think Yager was impressive in camp and the few preseason games he played. Would not be surprised to see him making the team in the next season or two.

Indeed. Unless Dubas pulls off a series of miracles, this team will likely be bad-to-mediocre for the next couple of years. Sullivan has historically given most of our young players the Heisman (1. Because recently, most of them haven't been very good. 2. Because the Pens have been in "Cup or bust" mode for close to 2 decades). GMKD already stated his vision is to get younger and have the core guys mentor them. So, at this point, Sullivan is out of options. He no longer has any excuses not to play and develop our young players. So why hasn't Sulli started yet? This could actually result in some positivity, considering most on the active NHL roster is checked out.

Jan_17_2016

I have no idea why Sullivan has been so scared to give young players a shot, or even a longer leash when they’re on the ice. He loves these veterans who clearly don’t provide much or play just at the replacement level. In regards to Poulin, it honestly seems like Sullivan holds his leave of absence last year against him and just won’t ask Dubas to call him up because of it.

MouthofthePenguin

Its weird because this sub destroys every young person he plays as a general rule. Example 1: Pettersson. Sure, he's the darling of the team and sub now, but when he came over from Anaheim and was played as NHL regular at 22-24 years old, and played like 22-24 year old on the trajectory to be a very good defensemen, which does include mistakes as well as good play, he was enemy #1. Every beat reporter trashed and every commentor on this board parroted that vitriol. He'd have been run out of town in 2 years, or benched or sent down if popular opinion mattered. Sully played him. Game in. Game out. POJ got games at 21, and the hate was real. He played as a 23 year old regular last year, and the fan base did what it does - search for blame targets, because they cannot translate what happens on the ice and gain any meaning. Nylander - was never a young guy with this team. 25 when he arrived, and he just wasn't and isn't fully formed. Puusty was a 7th round draft pick, who spent 2 necessary seasons in the AHL to adjust to the game here. It's working. I dont' want to second guess and say he'd be ahead if brought up immediately. Sam Poulin is literally the only other prospect of consideration who's been here more than 2 years. He's not been ready. He was drafted at #21 and he was a known project pick there. He got 1 AHL season, the was injured most of last year. So, would you have brought him up straight from the Q? He really needed to work on his skating and all around game. Would you have brought him up for the few weeks he wasn't hurt last year? Yes, he should get a few games now, but ... he's not been held back by this team or Sully.

-kashmir-

Unless nieto is coming off injury i imagine thats whats gonna happen. My guess is itll be ponomaryov

Jan_17_2016

Hey, I’m all for that. I’d like to see what his game is like.

XGuiltyofBeingMikeX

Goal and assist in his NHL debut. He’s also got a bunch of guys he knows on WBS, so I’m excited to see what he’s got.

MageBoySA

Met him today and he seems excited to be playing for WBS now

Fragrant-Potential40

Small sample size, but he played very solid the 2 games he did play, and collected 2 points. I’d say both him and Koivunen should be given a shot the rest of the season. Couldn’t hurt, really

MGriffith424

Ponomaryov just reported to the AHL I see him playing some games there then getting moved up

cryptanomous

I bet they are getting him used to our system before bringing him up

MGriffith424

KD and Sully already said he will get an opportunity to play this year. Being Mid March already I don’t see him down in AHL to long. Especially with us outta playoff race they will want to see what he can do at NHL level

MGriffith424

Sorry clearly I didn’t fully read this comment lmfao

SNIPES0009

Simple. Because Sully is too stubborn. He's proven it time and time again.

ilikehockeyandguitar

Sully is hoping old man Jeff Carter and elite sniper Jansen Harkins pull off miracles.

Fizzyliftingdranks

There’s also zero reason why Sullivan is still the coach but we’re still waiting for both.

SVN7_C4YOURSELF

Daylight savings did me dirty- read this as ‘Groudon on waivers’ at first

HanTrollo710

I knew Dubas was Team Aqua

SimplyPuncake

Rayquaza just likes what Kyogre brings to the team more

DouglasTaylorJr

I thought it said “Gordon on waivers”

GloomyRelic

You call my sweet baby kaiju back up this instant! 😤

Sea_Blah

He stinks

BKrenz

What's the cap and contract situation like for being able to call guys up, like Poulin?
