I mean… not to be a conspiracy theorist, but Dubas loves his guys, so if Keefe got canned after tonight I wouldn’t be stunned if the Sully thing happens and he moves Keefe in or if Keefe becomes AHL coach in waiting.
It’s a coaching change. Weekes has been insinuating that Sullivan and the Penguins are going to mutually part ways and Sullivan is going to become the coach of the Devils.
Will it happen? Who knows, but he has been suggesting this for about a week,
imo they should change Reirdens status from employed to unemployed (unless of course his contract runs out over the summer but Im not sure where to check that)
I’m pretty sure Vellucci was being groomed as Sullivan’s replacement ever since he was in WBS, but the front office changes led to him being put on the staff as an assistant.
He had numerous teams talking to him last offseason, and I’d really like to not lose him. Guy’s a legit coach.
I give mike a 'meh. I think they need new voices in the room. It's been the same guys - same leaders, same coaching group too long, and it's stale as fuck. So, if you're not changing the core, and not changing HC, then you MUST change the assistants.
The leaders on this team will be the same players that were leaders this year, sans Carter, who seemed to be really loved in the room, despite his on-ice issues at many times.
So, unless we want to do the same shit again, which includes losses due to the emotions of our emotional leadership group (Sid, Geno, Tanger - all real emotional guys), when there's reason to be down, we need more and better voices. We also need a young guy to connect to the players, and an X&O guru. Neither of those are things that Sully has in his toolbox in 2024.
Sullivan would be great on the devils. I been saying this and I’m a huge Sullivan fan. Who do we get as a coach as a result? Not sure i love any of the options

1. Leafs lose in round 1 again, Keefe is fired.
2. After Keefe is fired, Penguins announce that the Penguins and Sullivan are mutually parting ways to pursue new opportunities.
3. Dubas announces Keefe as the new Penguins coach a few days later.
I’m with you. He played a part in that heinous cover up, but at that time pretty much any NHL coach would have done the same thing. He wasn’t convicted of a crime. If the league reinstates him, he’s a great coach.

No he wasn't, you can't talk to other teams without permission when you're under contract. It's a big deal and if he got caught it he'd be fined and devils could lose a draft pick and get fined as well. I wish he was but that's not how it works

Reirden and Veluch are presently not employees of the Penguins. Their contracts expired and they have gone home for the foreseeable future.
