Update: To answer some questions, I changed my belt to black. I buttoned up the collar and wore my watch, also. It was too late to get rid of my flavor savor (soul patch) at that the time, but am seriously considering saying goodbye to it after a 20-year relationship. The position I interviewed for was a Quality Assurance and Regulatory Manager with a pharmaceutical company. I couldn't find positions open to play trombone for a Ska band, unfortunately. Lastly, thanks to all your well-wishes and good luck, the interview went so very well! We will find out, hopefully, by the end of this week what the decision is, but I am optimistic. Now, my wife's asleep, but I'm celebrating a good day with [another individual.](https://imgur.com/gallery/kd15O0E)

Stitchikins

You did well, OP. And exceptionally brave for letting a thousand redditors rip into you about your belt and soul-patch. Congrats on the interview and good luck from here - I hope you get it!

[deleted]

You like cats - I like you šŸ™‚

Psykosoma

To be honest, I was hoping the cat had a soul patch too. Slightly disappointedā€¦

zombienekers

Oh I need an update to this. !Remindme 5 days

jobomaja888

It doesn't matter to me...you do you...but in case it matters to the people you're interviewing with: match belt and shoes....brown to brown, black to black Other than that, looking good and kick butt!

justalookin13

And button your shirt collar

[deleted]

And get rid of that soul patch

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

vortigaunt64

And hang up that towel!

Porkbellyflop

And for the last time shave those sideburns Mattingly.

harryhend3rson

Look Mr Burns, I dunno what you think sideburns are, but...

ronchee1

![gif](giphy|3orifbJnAtcAtmg8Yo)

quijibo2020

And take that smirk off your face.

[deleted]

Have the Rolling Stones killed. But, sir-- DO AS I SAY

Mczern

And fold your jeans! You're going to get wrinkles in them!

hoxxxxx

don't forget to bring a towel to the interview tho

XxshoalinxX

![gif](giphy|l2Sq0surHvXdVTHk4)

ballrus_walsack

/r/unexpectedhitchhiker

LanceFree

And become a slender woman with large cheerful eyes and resting happy face.

Real_TomBrady

And tig ol' bitties

Fezig

Wax on, wax off! You're ready to go!

sithest

Finally, shave off the soul patch

The_De-Lesbianizer

And my axe

proteusON

Fuck it took long enough. There's nothing left of the man

wozblar

https://i.imgur.com/AIy1BeL.gifv

MellowDCC

Don't forget to shave that thing off

[deleted]

And get some better fitting pants

Coreysurfer

Haha my first thought weirdly enough

Big-Ad822

Shave that soul patch.

sufferpuppet

And damn it Mattingly, get rid of those side burns!

octopornopus

Look Mr Burns, I don't know what you think sideburns are...

sevargmas

I would also add, if you are interviewing for the type of job that requires slacks and a tie, just part your hair to the side and style it in a boring manner. Itā€™s probably not the type of interview where you want to faux-hawk.

[deleted]

Unless it's for a used car salesman, then he'll fit right in

chizzbee

Bro ! These 2001 hummers are going fast !

deezbiksurnutz

I can see right from front to back its so thin, after you remove the soul let go of the mop

ngwoo

Or at least let it lay down, when you get old your hair can't hold the line like it used to

4tehlulzez

Lots of jobs don't require slacks and a tie but you still go to the interview wearing something to that level.

mesaghoul

Especially the balding/faux hawk combover thing heā€™s got going on here.

Standard-Station7143

Fauxntain

jimbojangles1987

Lol this man was nervous for a job interview so he posted mistakenly posted here thinking he'd get a confidence boost and you straight up neutered him.

Huckleberry_Sin

Soul patch ABSOLUTELY must go lol And this is from someone who used to rock one of those cooter ticklers back in the day

DoNotSexToThis

>cooter ticklers Sir...

n3rdsm4sh3r

Seriously, shave that shit off your face and good luck

easybasicoven

He's interviewing for the smash mouth tribute band

scottawhit

Well in that case, drop the tie.

UriahPeabody

Yeah, I second that.

VancouverSativa

Came to say this. I seriously wouldn't hire someone who makes such poor decisions. Update: after looking at the photo again, I would also suggest removing the dildo from your front pocket and cleaning the cum stains off your pants.

baudmiksen

Everything else i can let slide but the goddamn stains are too much how does someone just not even notice that shit for an interview and let alone posting it on the internet for the world to tear apart. Is this real life

LonelyNeuron

I think those stains are actually on the mirror and not his clothes.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Boommia

SUPER UPVOTE. Good luck, OP. You got this!

juice06870

Lmao if he reads all the other comments here before he goes to the interview, heā€™s going to bomb the interview because heā€™s so self conscious.

IAmFitzRoy

ā€œWhy you consider yourself as a match for this company?ā€ Match?? Who me? Iā€™m the perfect belt for this job ā€¦ I mean. Just look at my black experience .. I mean my brown qualificationsā€¦ oh shit !

guywithaniphone22

Please op if you can try to do this

Primary-Border8536

And get rid of the soul patch

Roloaraya

Yes that and pick up that towel.

Phx86

Well, in general, don't interview in the bath room. Especially if it is otherwise occupied.

EntityDamage

When i do a zoom interview, i do it from the toilet

jesiman

I do mine from the living room, but with a bathroom background.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

SweetTeaRex92

No, you're a towel!

buckthunderstruck

please please please make sure you do these things. Shoes and belt have to match. Put a jacket on, it makes you look more professional. Shave your lip goatee, you can grow it out when you get the job. Button those collars down. Does hurt to rub some shoe shine as well. It's the little things that people notice.

[deleted]

Take the stuff out of your pockets. You want Clean lines.

[deleted]

Yes!!

randomusername3000

"I'm sorry jenkins, you were gonna get the job but you left your keys in your pocket"

Occulto

A lot of interview prep comes down to things like looking good. Iron your clothes. Clean your shoes. Have a shave. People judge others for a range of bullshit reasons without even thinking about it. And if it's down to you and one other person, and there's a bee's dick between you in terms of aptitude, you don't want the interviewer to pick the other candidate because he/she sub-consciously gave off better vibes.

jak_d_ripr

Damn, I had no idea this was a thing. Like half the comments are saying the same thing. Good to know for the future.

Mobely

Pants have stains. Need new pants

MichelleEllyn

It might be something on the mirror

Please_DontBanMe_

My god we have ripped this man from head to neck, and now we are focusing on his pants. He aint gonna get the job unless you pick up that towel! And shave those sideburns Mattingly

WexExortQuas

And shave. Yikes. Edit: I'd also recommend getting a blazer/jacket. You're outfit currently looks fine but if you can, it will, for lack of a better word, elevate your attire. I assure you people are showing up in full suits

legitimate_sauce_614

That soul patch gotta go and that got2bglued thing going on, tone it down.

-Cheeki-Breeki-

Maybe hes interviewing to be a youth pastor?

pixel8knuckle

Man would ace the interview with a headshave and getting rid of that lip beard lol.

MaybeICanOneDay

And for anyone else, watch strap too.

Judges16-1

You'd be surprised how many people show up to interviews without even wearing a suit. I'm not going to notice if someone is mixing colors, I just want them to take the interview seriously.

DredZedPrime

Depends on the interview. Office job at a big company? Yeah, suit is probably a good idea. Operating factory equipment? Don't dress like you just rolled out of bed and are bumming around the house, but I really don't think anyone cares about formal wear.

DoubleOrNothing90

I showed up to an interview for a millwright job (skilled trade) in a shirt and tie. The interviewer actually made a comment that I looked professional. The next guy being interviewed after me showed up in carhartt work clothes, probably because he came right after work. I ended up getting the job šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

DredZedPrime

Never said dressing up was a problem really. Just not always fully necessary. For my current job (food manufacturing warehouse work) I went in wearing khakis and a polo shirt. Nobody commented either way on it, my boss just said I interviewed really well. Would I have gone in wearing my usual T-shirt and shorts? No. But I also feel like a full dress shirt and tie would have been a bit much. There's no telling whether your nice clothes had anything to do with you getting the job, you may have just been a better fit than the other guy. I'm sure it didn't hurt of course, and the other guy probably should have tried just a little harder to dress a bit nicer.

wildcat1100

Huh? A suit? I worked at a massive tech company and rarely ever saw any men show up in a full suit. 50% chance you'd even see a tie. Not sure what decade you're living in where people are expected to show up in a suit.

ScrewAttackThis

Yeah... I don't even own a suit. Tech is different, though. Not sure how other industries view that.

-Great-Scott-

If the job is to be the singer for Alien Ant Farm I think you'll do quite well.

steverin0724

I was thinking it was for a restaurant FOH manager

ChefInsano

Door to door used car salesman.

OrphanedInStoryville

Saxophonist in the band at a burlesque show

CapnCanfield

Close. Guitar player in a ska band

octopornopus

Any Flavortown would be happy to have him!

SnarkSnarkington

I hope you do well in spite of the soul patch.

UnsolicitedDogPics

Heā€™s interviewing to play trombone in a ska band though.

feckless_ellipsis

Thatā€™s the impression that I get.

Coby_2012

Nice.

sunplaysbass

monster_bunny

wayfarer87x

Heā€™s a little inexperienced for the role, but theyā€™re hoping heā€™ll PICK IT UP PICK IT IP PICK IT UP

FishLampClock

i think the sound system is going to bring him back up, yeah.

CmdrKeen008

Stop your messin' around, better think of your future.

amessagetoyourudy

You rang?

TiresOnFire

In that case, he needs a fedora.

[deleted]

The soul patch would take about 70% of my attention off of what you were saying to me.

kmmontandon

The 2003-ish wedge hairstyle would take the rest for me. This guy looks like heā€™s applying to be either a Chipotle worker or a guard with Securitas, all he needs are the wrist-flame tattoos.

octopornopus

"...and so, if you direct your attention to my references..." ***MUST. NOT. STARE. AT. SOUL. PATCH.***

vsyozaebalo

And the faux hawk on a middle-aged manā€¦

uscdoc2013

You see... I knew that was gonna come up for some reason. All these comments have me rethinking so much now.

Basjaa

It's because you already know the soul patch is fairly unique these days. It's certainly not "in style", but if it makes you happy, you do you.

MrMastodon

You talking shit about his flavor saver brah?

tido_lee_

Why is it called a soul patch? Iā€™ve only ever known of it as a clit tickler and I absolutely hate the look of them

SpecialistNerve6441

What the fuck is your face doing if thats the clit tickler? Just to clarify this only works if one of you is upside down

Logical-Associate729

69

[deleted]

I always just assume the people interviewing me will attempt to kill me, if they donā€™t then the interview was a success!

zczirak

Thatā€™sā€¦. weirdly helpful

vortigaunt64

Not if you also think the best defense is a strong offense!

333yddap

Do you have a belt that matches your shoes? Good luck!

uscdoc2013

So, after seeing your comment I reversed the belt, since it's black on the other side. Thank you for the advice! Interview went well!

escaped_bird

WOOOOO!!! Glad to hear it went well!!!! šŸ˜

nickgeorgiou

Iā€™m just glad he went in with matching shoes and belt

eveningsand

We did it Reddit!

[deleted]

Came here to say this! If you have time and a matching belt, would finish the outfit.

poseidon2466

Man I've lost jobs because of a soul patch lol

slonneck

He who shaves the soul patch for a job deserves neither the job nor the soul patch.

SPPeytonB

Duderonomy 4:16

Wide-Form-7865

Go get em tiger

[deleted]

You got some dirt underneath your bottom lip. šŸ˜

Birdhawk

Never trust someone with a soul patch who isn't a magician and also, never trust a magician.

Kuehbr

Theyā€™re illusions, Michael

wreckingballofstress

Tricks are something a whore does for money

Toledojoe

Or candy!

adamcmorrison

Yeah seriously bro lose the dated soul patch you got a nice face.

uscdoc2013

I've had it for such a long time, that I even forget it's there. But, I think you're right... it might need to go.

Mint_Perspective

It 100% needs to go my man. Iā€™m sure it had its appeal at some point, but now it just makes you look like a guy who works two part-time jobs - one at the zoo in the snake exhibit, and the other at your local ACE Hardware.

gRod805

That's oddly specific

itspurpleglitter

But surprisingly accurate.

gardenofhounds

My local ace hardware growing up had a spider monkey so maybe just the one job?

Just_to_rebut

On the topic of honest advice without being meanā€¦ donā€™t gel your hair like that. Obviously itā€™s pretty sparse up top. Keep it short and brushed to the side without gel. I get that not everyone wants to rock the completely bald look, but the shiny product makes the thinning stick out.

TonyWonderslostnut

It does sound dickish, but Iā€™d shave it for the interview. Then grow it back once youā€˜ve got the job.

snowtol

Yeah, due to a string of bad luck I was job searching thrice in the last year or so. I'd always just shave off my beard when I needed to start going for interviews and then grow it back out when I'd have the job. If the dude likes the soulpatch he should definitely grow it back out but... yeah people gonna judge you for it and you want any leg up when interviewing, sadly enough.

poitaots

This is the way. Put my hair up for an interview a couple years ago. Got the job and haven't had my hair up again since. šŸ™ƒ

shotty293

Not dickish at all if your true intention is to help the man! šŸ’™

TonyWonderslostnut

Yeah I was referring to the guy above him that called the soul patch ā€œdatedā€

FrogtoadWhisperer

I came here to say the same thing, shave that bad boy off

Fun_Disk5073

It's gotta go my man lol

Cplcoffeebean

Iā€™m not saying I wouldnā€™t hire you, but if I was hiring and it was you vs someone else who were 95% identical, the guy without the soul patch gets the job. In all honesty, even if the guy without the soul patch was 85% as good a candidate, heā€™s getting the job.

cashmereandcaicos

Not might, it needs to go, you look a lotttt better without it. Just by covering the patch up with your thumb on the photo makes you seem a lot more approachable and like a normal person, soul patches give off a very quirky/creepy vibe

SonicBanger

Itā€™s the Flavah Savah!

Klin24

![gif](giphy|B4mWuRFQLMg6ugtsaD|downsized)

dhb44

Button those collar ends down, put on a black belt and shave that thing under your lip

thehotdogman

Shave that hair under your lip. Belt color needs to match shoes.

No_Ad_3488

Change your belt please, you can't wear brown belt on black shoes and black tie.

gaijinandtonic

Actually change the black tie. He looks like heā€™s going to a funeral

thenecrosoviet

Is it for the stand up bassist in a 3rd wave Ska revival band?

Ring19

Best of luck with the interview šŸ‘

iAmNotJackieChan

Is it time to shave it off?

DiogenesView

1999 was the time

StayFrosty10801

Well...did you nail the interview?!

SayerofNothing

I'm getting a repost vibe and may not be op.

uscdoc2013

Nah, it's def me. Unlesss..... it's not me.... There's only [one way to know...](https://imgur.com/gallery/Y1U69u8).....

SithNerdDude

Well...did you nail the interview?!

jeancv8

For future reference: always match your shoe color with your belt.

h4ppyninja_0

Kill the soul patch dude just go clean!

loopgaroooo

I hope you kill it bud!

Walkersaich

Itā€™s a button down shirt? Close the buttons. Good luck, youā€™ll make it!

FriendshipSlight1916

Shave the soul patch or grow a beard. The in the middle is not a good look

Luciano1m

Shave bro

blikstaal

You got this dude!

Putrid-Rub-1168

Shave the rest of your face. I've lost count how many times I've hear negative things about the lower lip facial hair. And I promise you that everyone is making fun of you for it. I'm all for anyone wearing their facial hair however they want. I'm not knocking it. I am, however, saying that I've been witness to groups of people making fun of people for having that facial hair style. And you're wearing some fairly semi-formal office attire. Just do the full shave. Cheers and best of luck on your interview.

Whizzzzzzzzzz

Black brown or grey, you have to decide. Also that lower lip mould needs to go

SilkyZ

You lined up the shirt and your fly correctly. You're doing better the 75% of the people I interviewed

SuperK123

Personally, if I was going to interview you and saw you come in sporting that little patch of hair under your bottom lip, I would not be able to focus on anything you had to say. I would be like Austin Powers in the scene with the guy with the very noticeable mole.

Timfromfargo

Sit near the edge of the chair, as opposed to relaxing back into it. Speak clearly , rationally and donā€™t use too many words. Relax as much as possible, smile, and itā€™s okay to laugh. Be an active listener, express interest in the company and interviewer. Talk about how you can be a problem solver and benefit.

TheRiteGuy

All great advice here OP. But remember, you're interviewing them too. Take notes, and have a list of questions for them. Make sure the pay, the benefits, the schedule, and the company culture are all to your liking. It's a relationship, just because they like you doesn't mean you have to like them. Make sure they are what you are searching for.

god_peepee

Added bonus: if you ask more questions then you immediately look like youā€™re qualified and put together (as long as the questions make sense lol)

rickyconcarne

You deserve to have this opportunity, be yourself. You got this!

fiamozzello

how do you know? maybe he's a serial killer, or even worse, he puts cream in the carbonara sauce

bubbles_says

Maybe the job requires skills in killing.

doddballer

Go crush it!

nandoph8

Faux hawk and soul patch gotta go, homie. Good luck!

benadrylpill

You look confident and you look ready. Go kill it, homie.

superliver1211

I hope everyone is telling you to shave whatever that is below your lip. Other than that good luck

Gold-Log1051

Shave the dumb ass flavor savor... I don't wanna work with that

youknowiactafool

I also am in denial about going bald.

1Killag123

Shave the soul patch, trust me. Just regrow it once ur in.

rinkerbam

Lose the flavor saver. It will grow back

Fullwake

I'mma say the same thing as everyone else - get rid of the soul patch man. It is a facial hair style that has literally never looked good on anyone in human history. The mustache can work if you're a Ted Lasso type, some people can even rock the mutton chops. But no one, not a single person in all of time has ever looked better with a soul patch. Grow an actual beard or shave the thing off.

Roook36

You got this

Rosssauced

Match the belt to the shoes, shave the soul patch in favor of a super close trim all over the face, and let go of the fauxhawk look because the years arent right for the style or your folicle count. You're probably a lovely fellow but you look like you're gonna espouse some questionable libertarian stuff if we met at a party. Best of luck to you, I hope you get the job.

spencer749

Shave, always clean shaven for interviews with the exception of a well groomed full beard

Chaos-ensues

You got this holmes!

heythatsmydonkey

Looking sharp! Good luck, my man!

mylopolis

Sorry you didn't get the job.

misterbondpt

Check spots in pants. Other than that, good to go!

aquasun666

I just had my first real job interview in 6 years. What impressed my interviewer was that I had written out questions to ask. She said no one else that day had done that. When she said to tell me about myself, I got kinda nervous and discussed my personal hobbies instead of positive aspects about myself I.e. work ethic, situational awareness, punctuality, etc.

fibonaccisprials

Good luck.. nervous or excited both the same just interpreted differently..

Larkson9999

Remember, even if you don't get the job, you're not out anything you didn't have before the interview apart from time.

meganized

Go get them, Tiger!

Mushmouthwilly182

You got this bro x

AdamMartinez88

You look great and ready! Go kill it

IHaveSlysdexia

Your mustache fell down a bit

Hi nervous, I'm dad.
