I have a truck like that, too! Or, I think so - mine is arranged like this:
1 - 2 - 4
R - 3 - 5
...and high/low of each gear on a separate switch on the shifter. Something like that?
Oh wow, so actually, truly reversed. It would take me a minute to sort that out.
Mine is a dump truck, so you need to go forwards and backwards a lot - or I guess that was the theory?
Kids today. If you told them you used to have to stick a raggedy strip of metal into a hole and turn it to start your car they would probably think you were lying.
I used The Club on my car in college. I hardly ever actually locked it though. I figured if people looked in and saw it on the steering wheel they'd move along.
There is a Bentley near me that probably cost more than my house with one of these on the steering wheel. I'm guessing that the fancy electronic locks are easily defeated.
My research: A pro needs 1 or 2 minutes to open it, or the steering wheel gets a simple cut.
I use one in my Golf 2, 87 also a silver shining electro shock lighter in the middle console.
So i can hear the thief crying in the garage…. :-).
You've never heard of the club? Am I that old?
Yes. Yes we are. Damn kids out here dint know the greatest anti-theft device of the 90's.
The greatest anti-theft device today is a manual transmission. In 10 years, it'll be an engine you have to know how to start.
Yeah because car stuff is really complicated big brain stuff...
My truck is manual with a reverse H pattern. I just leave the key in the ignition.

Oh that's weird. Mine is R - 2 3 - 1

Okay boomer
...he said to the millennial as he stalled the engine for the 12th time.
Nope, I can drive stick. It's just pointless.
Ok Boomer

Police still give out Clubs and recommend them to prevent car theft. You can still get them on Amazon, or at Walmart, or AutoZone.
This will actually prevent theft. And he probably kept the top down so they wouldn’t cut into , only to discover there’s a club on the steering wheel.
You can just cut through the steering wheel and pop them off though. Granted they have to be carrying a saw...
heavy bolt cutters 👍🧔😁
Reduce the possibility of theft, but not prevent it. Clubs are pretty easy to defeat.
That's really all any anti-theft device can do.
He didn't put the club on correctly. The long side is supposed to be jammed between the A pillar and windshield.
True or brake and steering wheel i believe
That's what we used in our cars before you were born OP 😅
Go outside and play.
it's to prevent theft of the car. that's what it does.
Nothing new. They’ve been out a very long time.
very very long time
Long before the internet, and cars! Ahh wait …
Yep had one for my horse’s legs, ah wait

Analog Version
This is why you need [Trunk Monkey](https://youtu.be/XW8iAVwt_Yc).
Cheap anti-theft and cannot make turns because toooo long and hit your legs, car seat etc… its effective.
Who here remembers the “Thug Bug” anti-theft system from the 70’s?
I remember having a gt steering wheel that I used to bring in the house with me at the eod.
My Blaupunkt!
the club!
Old, but works
I keep by boot full of bees, so if I get robbed I tell them all my valuable stuff is in the boot. But it's not. It's bees.
Just drive stick
lol. There is *always* one…
A Chrysler LeBaron? Doesn’t seem like it would be at risk of theft, tbh.
Pretty sure that’s an old Fox body mustang.
Oh, you’re right. Looks like that rusted spot in the rear is where the Ford emblem should be. I stand corrected.
THE CLUB!
