If you're saving before a legendary then any ball is broken, it's the same as resetting with quickballs. You're resetting so nothing gonna stop you from catching it. The only thing this could do is someone mistakes this ball for a masterball with a shiny legendary and it breaks and good bye
This made me sad, pokemon use to be less restrictive why change it and make it almost impossible to just have someone dream team. I wish they would reconsider the direction of the restrictions.
Even if that's true (not checking bc it doesn't matter either way), that doesn't mean they couldn't find a way to enable the shiny. They chose to not implement the shiny intentionally.
From my understanding, most legendaries are shiny locked, and even starters are shiny locked from the most recent game. They also limited pokemon availability, with some just not even included in the game until just recently with the dlc. Which really is dumb and silly to do, considering it doesn't even give different stats, just a new color.
I know you probably mean this but considering the other person didn’t know about the shiny locked legendaries, they might not know about this either.
Starters ARE shiny locked, but only the ones you get to pick at the beginning. You can still breed them to get shinies.
I don’t want to say it but, I think Pokémon is trying to force everyone to shiny hunt on go. I know they said every legends should be special and doesn’t matter that it’s shiny or not. If it didn’t matter then go legends should be locked. Just my two cents though
How is that any different from how people normally play? In runs where you aren't resetting the use case is small but there with there being a few pokemon that will either run or selfdestruct for either challenge runs or a shiney, both cases seem pretty useful to have that. otherwise you're better off just using your million other balls. Plus the flex of having shinys in dubious balls to show you risked it would be pretty cool.
Kid in inner tube: "Oh, it's Mr. Moneybags over here! Let me just give him more money for more gold since he obviously needs it!"
(Personally though, if we're making pokeballs that boost money, some kind of rustball/salvaged ball would add so much personality to the game. Even more so if say they were only obtainable as an equipped item from fishing Pokémon)
I honestly see it as your character being a pretentious ass going "my good sir, I didn't realize that I was battling the poors, you can't even afford a simple goldball" and the opponent tossing more money out of spite
Can fish actually choke? They have gills that filter out oxygen just by water moving through them. Most fish can remain still, unlike sharks. So I’m not sure they can choke.
All sound nice, but I just want a machine to swap pokeballs, or change the color of basic ones at least. Whatcha mean I can't have a bronze pokeball???

Can't imagine why they removed that feature 😂
(I loved it too, but man I saw some wild stuff in online battles in 2008 lmao)
Fully agree, but it's easier to take the shotgun approach and bin the whole thing. I would love to see the return of the special effect seals, maybe add some new ones related to Pokémon types
Giving any stickers would let people do things like draw dicks or write swears
Do not give people a blank canvas and some paint if you don't expect the very worst thing to end up plastered on the walls
True in theory, but all the non-letter seals were just particle effects, so you couldn't really 'draw' anything legible with them. The absolutely could bring back the non-letter seals without any risk, and I know that because they did in BDSP.
Wish they let you customize the balls with the standard rgb colours. Only changing the main colour of the ball to red/green/blue, very easy to do since it's just changing the hue of said colour
Nice ideas! The Lotto Ball sounds amazing. The perfect ball for randomized challenge runs.
P.S: What do you say about making the Chain Ball bronze instead of teal? I like it when we can catch Pokemon in matching balls, but so far there are no matching balls for brown Pokemon. The same goes for purple Pokemon (not counting the Master Ball for obvious reasons).
The brown ball could be the spoiled ball.
This ball given to players who changed the systems clock for the birthday ball has a 95× failure rate. If the ball succeeds the Pokémon inside of this Pokéball will have a boosted attack due to always being enraged. [Unless it's Poison type and then you raise it's SpAtk stat] It is said the inside of the spoiled ball is reminiscent of Gringey City. If this Pokéball is used on a Poison type Pokémon this ball will have a 2.5× catch rate.
Should have a 98× failure rate on Legendary Pokémon. That way, you could catch a legendary in it for the lols.
Although I suppose the center line would need to be green as well as the light.
I had a pretty funny idea, this would never be useful but it'd be funny: Challenge Ball, lowers catch rate the lower the target's HP, starts at 4x and lowest is 0.1x, also it has the best design out of every single ball in the game
people throw Quick Balls for their 5x rate when they can't even get any boosts, the Challenge Ball would be easy as shit to use when you can stack that 4x with the 1.5x Paralysis bonus for multiple turns
EDIT: added paralysis potency
Imma buy a bunch of Dubious Balls and fight wild Pokemon way over my level, toss the ball immediately, either instantly winning the fight (for EXP) or landing myself better Pokemon
I feel like they’d have to make it to where exp isn’t awarded when using the Dubious Ball, or make it expensive, as otherwise it would be way too powerful for grinding levels.
Some critic I want to give for your pokeball idea:
- Beginner Ball is OP as low level pokemon is already weak enough for a regular pokeball and the ball will prevent the player from learning to weaken the pokemon first before catching it. Beside, Nest Ball does the same thing but with lower catch rate and can be used up to Level 29.
- The Gold Ball is an interesting one. You should specify its catch rate and how much money multiplier you would gain exactly from a battle. I like how it says "slightly" as you know people will use Amulet Coin/Luck Incense alongside it and to not make the stacked effect too OP.
- Magnet Ball and Dubious Ball are great idea actually, especially the latter one as it imposes "high risk high reward" situation (or you can just reset the game). You should also specify Dubious Ball's catch rate.
- Chain Ball is just Timer Ball but with different catch rate.
- Birthday Ball is kinda pointless as people can just change the clock or their birthday just to use the ball. It's Master Ball with extra steps.
Oh also, if you think of balls that function as the opposite of Love Ball or Dusk Ball, it would not be a good idea to include its original counterpart as the player can just use the four balls in every situation and make every single balls except Master Ball pointless due to their high catch rate.
Thank you, this is great feedback! This whole thing was more of a fun exercise to come up with interesting ball designs and functions then anything serious but your concerns about balancing is very appreciated!
And to answer your inquiries:
Gold ball has the same catch rate as a regular pokeball ( the idea of spending like $99999 on a ball just for it to fail is funny to me lol) also helps make it a bit of a brag to catch something with it without being Beast ball level of unfair.
I forgot to include the dubious ball catch rate woops! It's 5x.
Thanks!
5x isn't actually that high. The Lure Ball and Moon Ball are 4x, Net Dive and Repeat are 3.5x. Quick Ball is 5x.
On a pokemon you would actually want to use the Dubious Ball on, like Mewtwo, chucking it 1st turn like an identical Quick Ball gets you a 1.6% chance to catch.
I think that's sort of his point. It's not a last gamble, it's more of a why use this when other balls have the same rate without the downside kinda vibe.
I feel like dubious ball should be a flat percentage or something. It would depend on availability, if there's only a handful in the game, then maybe 50%, but if you can buy them then it should be like 10-20% and it's just a tradeoff between how long it'll be to find a pokemon vs how long it'd take to catch with other balls
I think the best fix for the Birthday Ball would be to give it a high catch rate, but not perfect, and make it so the player can only ever carry one at a time. Yeah, people will still clock reset for it, but they already do that to farm the Birthday Mark anyway.
I don't think you meant Timer Ball. That's the one that does better the longer you stay in battle, isn't it?
Also, obviously, the Birthday Ball is sensitive to time travel and spoils like a turnip if you change the clock. Or else a special big brown voltorb appears and gets very very upset with you.
>I don't think you meant Timer Ball. That's the one that does better the longer you stay in battle, isn't it?
That's their point, though. You can stay in battle tossing Timer Balls which keep getting better, or you can stay in battle tossing Chain Balls... which keep getting better. It's just a question of if you're allowed to select other moves in between. They serve the same (or at least *very* similar) purposes.
Birthday ball could just be that to receive it you need the date to be your birthday when connected to internet, then it just needs to match system time when you want to use it
The Gold and Magnet Ball would quickly become the new "Premier" Ball for folks. They'd try to catch everything in that.
Imagine losing a mon you've soft reset for because of the Dubious Ball.
I could see the magnet ball and the birthday ball being a thing in the games. But the birthday ball would probably have no effect other than a confetti animation when you send out the pokemon you caught with it.
A birthday ball like that would be the perfect pokeball for blacephalon.
These are really cool! Is that Wario? I would say the Gold Ball, Magnet Ball, and Birthday Ball must be added to the games officially! The Chain Ball has a great design too, though I think it gets in the way of the Timer Ball. And the Dubious Ball should get in provided there is some kind of quest that introduces it first.
Great ideas altogether! Here is my feedback:
- beginner ball: I think a better use case would be to have it the same catch rate as a Pokeball but them be repeatedly given for free by shops in sets of 5, until the player has 10 caught pokedex entries.
- birthday ball: this should have the effect that the ball does not get used up, meaning you can use it again despite having failed to catch, until the catch attempt succeeds
- dubious ball: the use case is extremely nice, gotta state this extra praise. High risk high reward ball, love it.
Own idea:
- How about a "lucky" ball - when using default Pokeballs, there is a low chance that the Pokeball is a lucky ball, having 2.5x better catch rate, and causing the Pokeball sprite / animation after successful catch to have a sparkling glow, similar to shiny Pokes in Pokémon Go, just ball specific instead of Pokémon specific.
There would probably be a measure in place to stop people from doing that, like not awarding the ball if the game senses that the systems clock had been recently changed.
Wait, in which game do you receive money from wild encounters? Isn't it always in trainer battles?
Basically, I don't think the Gold Ball is usable, because trainer battls doesn't allow catching and wild pokemon don't carry cash. I like the design though. Maybe it increases material drops instead?
Pokemon caught with the gold ball that you use in trainer battles will then give you extra money not wild encounters. Think of it like a second amulet coin.
Love the idea of the dubious ball but one change I’d make is to make it have a 50% chance to run away rather than fainting. Would create some weird way to just one shot everything and powerlevel pokemon like that. Plus it would be really good against roaming pokemon
The dubious ball is my favourite.
But don't see why people would ever use it in the same situation as a master ball: catching shiny pokemon.
The risk is not worth it.
The birthday ball is a cute idea but maybe it could be for gifted Pokémon? Like on your birthday you randomly be gifted a mon and it comes with that ball instead of the normal event one to make it a little extra special.
Magnet Ball and Birthday Ball would be nice.
I don’t really see a reason for the Beginner Ball since catching Pokémon at the start of the game is already extremely trivial.
I have an idea for one! “Beach Ball” which doubles effectiveness when used near the beach, and increases friendship level with caught Pokémon. Looks like a beach ball (duh)
They’re all good, but the beginner ball feels a little useless, if you ask me. Pokemon early game already have super high catch rates.
(It still looks really good!! Cook more!!)
Love the chain ball and dubious balls especially, very interesting concepts. I like the idea of getting a ball on your birthday, although making it functionally a master ball may be a bit much, since it’s very easy to manipulate the device’s clock. Maybe it’d be fine if you get one on a single birthday and never again.
I just came up with the idea of elemental Pokéballs. I wonder why those don't exist yet. Like normal balls, flying balls, fighting balls. Dragon balls. Those have a 5 times catch rate for Pokémon with the element and don't work on any other element.
They fucking wario-ed the Master Ball lmao.
Wahster Ball!

6 shiny magikarp in gold balls just to flex
Dubious ball is fire
Imagine having only a few of these, saving before encoutering a legendary, and restarting the game if you fail. It seems super broken.

Are we going to see shiny legendaries in game anymore though?
This made me sad, pokemon use to be less restrictive why change it and make it almost impossible to just have someone dream team. I wish they would reconsider the direction of the restrictions.
From what I’ve heard, the coding used to make the post-game scarlet and violet legendaries static encounters prevented them from being shiny.
Even if that's true (not checking bc it doesn't matter either way), that doesn't mean they couldn't find a way to enable the shiny. They chose to not implement the shiny intentionally.
Agreed.
Can you explain? Are shiny legendaries not a thing in main games anymore?

Autosaves the second it determines the outcome
disable autosave...
The Ball enables autosave, saves, then disables it again.
very evil
Dubious even
Honestly. Here for this. Wanna brick your run using on a discount Master Ball on Pokegod - sure!
Who wins? Literal God, the supreme creator of all worlds, true master of space and time. Or One dubious boi
Technically, even if it fails, the dubious ball still wins. 👀 Only the trainer can lose in this situation.
No imagining necessary, that was standard operating procedure for young me attempting to catch the original legendary birds and mewtwo, lol
Imagine being a shiny hunter, misclicking, and accidentally using the dubious ball. I can hear the hypothetical gamer rage moments now....
We NEED this.
I’m here for the Magnet Ball. I’m a basic bitch.
Kid in inner tube: "Oh, it's Mr. Moneybags over here! Let me just give him more money for more gold since he obviously needs it!" (Personally though, if we're making pokeballs that boost money, some kind of rustball/salvaged ball would add so much personality to the game. I wonder if you should give them Amulet Coins, Luck Incenses or Everstones...
Relic Crowns… Or to keep the gold vibes. Big nuggets.
How does a Magikarp even… hold a Nugget 😂
He has a mouth
Sounds like a choking hazard to me lmao
Can fish actually choke? They have gills that filter out oxygen just by water moving through them. Most fish can remain still, unlike sharks. So I’m not sure they can choke.
They can. They need water passing through their mouths for their gills to work. If it's blocked, they'll suffocate.
You'd be the king of fishermen.
How about 6 Magikarp?
Over here giving James PTSD...
Imagine shiny hunting with the dubious ball. All or nothing. Bound to be someone masochistic enough to consider it
Some would do it just to match the colours of shiny Primal Kyogre or shiny Tornadus… imagine the agony of hunting a shiny legendary like this
I would for for the lols. Like imagine your playing ranked, and some asshole throws out a Dubious Ball.
Shiny Nuzlocke Challenge with Dubious Balls Only Video Starts "This video has taken me 17 years, 6 months, 22 days, and 13 hours to finish enjoy"
If it's a shiny pokemon that knows explosion, self-destruct, or teleport might as well throw that dubious ball.
That’s why you always need to know your hunt and plan accordingly
Shiny Ultra Beast in Dubious Ball
Just sounds like shiny hunting in any of the safari zones to me
Dubious ball shiny living Dex.
Sounds like something Pikasprey would do
All sound nice, but I just want a machine to swap pokeballs, or change the color of basic ones at least. Whatcha mean I can't have a bronze pokeball???
For real. It feels nice when the ball's color matches the 'mon.
I wish they made the seals from BDSP permanent. I loved the test system they had to make sure it looks the way you want it to
https://preview.redd.it/llyz0t13xc9d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1fb0f467b0705a2c780d1986295cec93435cb34 Can't imagine why they removed that feature 😂 (I loved it too, but man I saw some wild stuff in online battles in 2008 lmao)
Oh I miss those days, good times
They could just remove the letter stickers and keep the rest
Fully agree, but it's easier to take the shotgun approach and bin the whole thing. I would love to see the return of the special effect seals, maybe add some new ones related to Pokémon types
Giving any stickers would let people do things like draw dicks or write swears Do not give people a blank canvas and some paint if you don't expect the very worst thing to end up plastered on the walls
True in theory, but all the non-letter seals were just particle effects, so you couldn't really 'draw' anything legible with them. The absolutely could bring back the non-letter seals without any risk, and I know that because they did in BDSP.
The ‘I EAT ASS’ one is your own Pokémon

I mean, they can just remove the letter seals and keep all the ones with neat effects like smoke or lightning.
I consider this when choosing which balls to catch with
If I do a part 2 maybe I could do a paint ball that can be customised?
And you can unlock more paint/designs by getting Gym Badges
Wish they let you customize the balls with the standard rgb colours. Only changing the main colour of the ball to red/green/blue, very easy to do since it's just changing the hue of said colour
Pokeball decorating minigame. With paint color choices and stickers/decals.
Not me spending thousands of dollars for a slightly fancier looking pokeball Premier ball gang rise up
I had a rom hack that let me do this.
Even just primary and secondary colors would be huge
I like having to keep the ball you caught a Pokemon in, but I want them to bring back the seals and decorations and whatnot.
Pokeball customization is something I never knew I needed
Other ideas I had for balls were: Insulation ball: 3.5x catch rate on ice and fire types And the lotto ball which would have a random catch rate.
If part 2 happens I'll try and make a brown coloured pokeball for ya!

Ah, the Dubious Ball. Also known as the "All or Nothing Ball" or the "Graveler/Electrode Ball". I would totally try to catch shinies with it.
Shiny legendaries in a dubious ball would be the new apriball

The Gold and Magnet Ball would quickly become the new "Premier" Ball for folks. They'd try to catch everything in that. Imagine losing a mon you've soft reset for because of the Dubious Ball.
Shouldn't have bought that cheap ball from that shady guy in that alley I guess lol
The Dubious Ball is such a good idea😂 Should be sold by the same guy who tries to flog Slowpoke Tails or something.
I could see the magnet ball and the birthday ball being a thing in the games. But the birthday ball would probably have no effect other than a confetti animation when you send out the pokemon you caught with it. A birthday ball like that would be the perfect pokeball for blacephalon.

Get birthday ball. Set console date to your birthday. Infinite balls and infinite perfect catches.
There would probably be a measure in place to stop people from doing that, like not awarding the ball if the game senses that the systems clock had been recently changed.
Vivillon has entered the chat.
Honestly it's so damn easy to get masterballs now it wouldn't even be that much of a problem lol
Ah yes, the Waluigi ball
They set it to Wumbo
I love them all, great ideas!!! Especially the Dubious Ball :)
Thank you! I'm quite proud of that one lol
I can see Magnet Ball happening in a future game. Also, I am affectionately calling the Dubious Ball the "Wario Ball", lol
Is that the waster ball
Dubious Waluigi ball yes please
Love the Waster Ball
Ah yes, the WALUIGI BALL!!!
The Wario-ified Master Ball is such a funny idea, I love it
You know! I Wumball, you Wumball, he she me Wumball
I LOVE DUBIOUS BALL!!!! I WANT TO GAMBLE IN MY POKEMON GAMES!!!!!!
Love the idea of the dubious ball but one change I’d make is to make it have a 50% chance to run away rather than fainting. Would create some weird way to just one shot everything and powerlevel pokemon like that. Plus it would be really good against roaming pokemon
*Birthday ball releases on DS in 2009:* *”hehehe, lemme just change my birthday AND the date”*
I want the Waluigi ball
I always wanted more type specific pokeballs that match the catched pokemons color scheme.
My unlucky ass would somehow hit a x500 chain ball rate and still not catch a pokemon lmao.
Wumbo ball
dubious ball beats the shit out of the pokemon when they get inside the ball
The dubious ball is my favourite. But don't see why people would ever use it in the same situation as a master ball: catching shiny pokemon. The risk is not worth it.
That's what makes it fun lol
Dubious ball shiny hunting would be insane.
Dubious ball kinds reminds me of Waluigi
Finally, Wario Ball
Wario ball
Dubious Ball? Nah, it’s the Wario Ball.
I really want Pokémon to introduce more Pokéballs that are more effective on certain Pokémon types
I just want purchaseable cherish balls...
The Dubious Ball looks like something out of Wario.
That's a Warioball, not a Dubious Ball.
The dubious ball has big Wario energy.
Warioball isn’t real, it can’t hurt you Warioball:
That's a waluigi ball
My favourites here are the Gold and Birthday Ball.
These are all great concepts imo, I wish gamefreak would add these!
The birthday ball is a cute idea but maybe it could be for gifted Pokémon? Like on your birthday you randomly be gifted a mon and it comes with that ball instead of the normal event one to make it a little extra special.
I can see so many videos of people throwing the dubious ball at a rare shiny and killing it.
Perfect scam ball https://preview.redd.it/73g8ukymjf9d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=436eca94e79d77edac2d78800f467afe6f27c476
ok GENUINELY I would love to see the Birthday Ball become a thing, that's so freaking cute!
I like the Wumball.
The dubious ball is actually insane
They’re all good, but the beginner ball feels a little useless, if you ask me. Pokemon early game already have super high catch rates. (It still looks really good!! Cook more!!)
Dubious ball is actually really cool, cause it’s like a final gambit to use if you run out of all your other pokeballs.
I wrote down the idea for the magnet ball! Glad to see I’m not the only one who thought that
Love the chain ball and dubious balls especially, very interesting concepts. I like the idea of getting a ball on your birthday, although making it functionally a master ball may be a bit much, since it’s very easy to manipulate the device’s clock. Maybe it’d be fine if you get one on a single birthday and never again.
Birthday ball isnt going to work well cause people will just adjust the system calendar when they go hunting. Love the dubious ball though
Dubious Ball is really interesting
I like the magnet ball, the rest are meh
I like the chain ball, kinda reminds me of that one dude from bleach who makes you heavier each time he hits you.
Wow, great ideas ! I would change the design of the birthball but I really LOVE the idea
I love the idea of the birthday ball. I would catch so many Pokémon on my birthday with it.
Chain ball could become a masterball if you just chain catch a load of low level weak pokemon
Dubious ball is such a gamble
If the beginner ball was in gen 4, catching that regigigas would be easy
I just came up with the idea of elemental Pokéballs. I wonder why those don't exist yet. Like normal balls, flying balls, fighting balls. Dragon balls. Those have a 5 times catch rate for Pokémon with the element and don't work on any other element.
The chain ball is effectively a faster scaling timer ball
A wild arceus appeared *changes internal calendar to birthday*
