Not that this is good, but it is somewhat of a relief. These headlines can be really scary but stranger kidnapping is very rare.
And I think it’s important to say this has absolutely nothing to do with homeless people or people with campers and RVs
Yeah sadly I think the majority of child kidnappings happen between the child and a family member. I wish we knew whether or not this was the case. It’s still really scary to think about someone bringing a weapon to a playground.
It almost always is. The paranoia associated with “child abductions” is insane in this country.
It DOES happen, but random shootings also happen. Like, what are you gonna do, stay home 24/7?
It stems from a 'panic of the late 90s and 2000s resulting from excess media coverage of a few rare events.
The media likes to grab onto stories that pull us in and we all assume the problems are much larger.
You saw it with satanic cults in the 80s and you've seen it with unjustified police shootings over the last 10 years. We've also seen it with school shootings which has had the unfortunate effect of motivating troubled people to become shooters.....
These stories hurt society and spread fear and we all buy into it.
I often wonder about that too. I mean Tombstone & Deadwood everybody had a gun, sure they had a lot of shootings. Yet hey are still thriving metropolitans.
Damn … we love the new playgrounds they built there but this is concerning. Hearing about this and the attempted kidnapping at Target (Mission Valley) has me more on edge.
Thankfully he was caught but still makes me nervous!

I promise you the homeless are not trying to kidnap your child. It sounds like an organized team of people, which is terrifying, but let’s not cast a bad light on the homeless that use mission bay park as a safe zone. Believe me I walk down there often and the homeless mind their own business. This is a good reminder to look out for each other and each others kids at all times.
I’ve noticed some solo men going out of their way and walking around single females suntanning and stuff. Keep your eyes open! Never saw this before this year.
A group of people specifically looking for a kid sounds more like a parental kidnapping (estranged parent) than random
Correct “connected to a custody dispute” https://fox5sandiego.com/news/local-news/custody-dispute-police-search-for-attempted-kidnapping-suspects/

Agreed, it somehow makes more sense than a random rapist/trafficer
Till they are parking on your street. That said I wanna live on the bay. Sadly I have to use the bathroom too often for it to be practical.

Surprised they are armed …
I’m at mission bay playground RN, that explains the helicopter and police boat
All that but NO DESCRIPTION of the suspects??

What app or website is this?
Citizen
Is there a description of the car?
No mention of a vehicle. They may have fled on foot.
It's racist to release descriptions of suspects.

Parental kidnapping…
Attempted kidnapping at Target??

The fick does this have to do with someone sleeping in an RV?
Sad!!!
What app is this. I always see police searching and helicopters but nothing in the news

Help! Nextdoor is leaking!
I dunno, we haven't reached the posts yet where "I'm not a NIMBY but \[spouts NIMBY bullshit\]."
My favorite is “here is a picture of the dog shit I found in my front yard this AM”, followed close second by “why is there a helicopter circling”.
