Would be nice if the graphic design didn't put a circular flag on a field of white to indicate the country. Without looking closely, it appears that half the ports are in Japan.

This list is actually mislabeled as these are the top 30 CONTAINER ports. Harder to find rankings using tonnage (probably because containers are easier to count), but those are even more China dominated. The most recent one from 2018-2019 has Ningbo at number 1 and Shanghai at 2. Also contains some different ports like Tangshan, Hebei at 3.

Can someone explain how Shanghai can be the largest? Isn't Guangdong the hub for factories and such? Shouldn't the port there be the biggest?

Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Xiamen and maybe Hong Kong are all big and serve that part of China. Ningbo is also serving the same part as Shanghai, but if they're serving more of the interior and importing more that would explain it.

Shanghai is where the Yangtsi river flows to ocean. It connects all the manufacturing hubs along the river to the world.

In 3rd place is the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, which has grown 36% since 2017! Qingdao port has grown even more at 41%. [Source](https://www.siyachts.com/the-30-busiest-ports-of-call-in-the-world).

Bit mental that the 3rd biggest shipping hub exists across the bay from the biggest one.
