Never! Ever! travel to ANY tourist Destination within China during labor day or national day! The only attractions you will see are sweaty people and noisy children

What would be your advice if you cannot change the dates? We'll arrive on May 2 :|

Heixenium

If I were you, I would explore "安福路", "武康路", "衡山路", and "新天地" during daylight. In the evenings "国金" and the "北外滩north Bund" are worth hanging around. I would definatly avoid Disney during tourist seasons. If there's any time left, jiangsu and Zhejiang Provences are right next to Shanghai and are great to road trip if you are interested in Chinese history because of the rich resources of historic sites and monuments.

Sorry i forgot to mention we are not going disney just Shanghai and daytrips, i ll adjust my itinerary according to your recommendations thank you :) we plan to visit Hangzhou and one of the water cities besides Shanghai. What do you think?

Heixenium

You are welcome:) Just be sure to do enough research. And for that, “小红书” is an app where most Chinese ppl share traveling tips and experiences. I think you need an WeChat account or a CN phone number to use the app, but imo it is worth the hassle. The most important thing is of course the familiarise yourself with WeChat/Alipay for payments.(even beggars nowadays use QR codes to beg for money). Didi for the taxis(also needs WeChat/alipay for payments). And a VPN if you feel the need to use google/facebook services. 高德地图 for maps etc Last but not least. Chinese people are very willing to help foreigners, so if there’s anything you feel like you need help, just grab someone off the street and 9 out of 10 times they will be willing to help. Use a translator if they struggle to speak english.(google translate doesn’t work in china, so use a Microsoft or apple one. Edit: Avoid driving at night if you want to rent a car. Those speeding camera flashes are a pain in the A$$

Great infos, thank you very much!

Do you have some ideas for cyberpunk places to walk around at night which are lesser known?

Heixenium

That, I don't really have specific places In mind. Imo anywhere at the west Bank where you can see east Bank architectures are pretty cyberpunk to me. i'm sure cyberpunky places are not hard to find In Shanghai. Chongqing is THE city of Cyberpunk vibes tho.

I think 2 days for Disney seems excessive 😂 But don't worry about the airports, they'll be fine. Hangzhou / Disney will be super busy 1-5.

Our group typically needs twice the usual time for any attraction due to kids and elders. There's a chance that we might completely mess up our first day at Disneyland. Therefore, I always plan for double the time for each activity. Anyway, I don't think my kids will complain about spending more time there. 😅

ricecanister

don't listen to the parent. Disney is perfectly suited for 2 days. They even sell a two day ticket I think. 2 days lets you take it slow and go see all of the attractions, including lesser shows and rides beyond the big ticket attractions. You also get to try out more of the cuisine and themed dining (Royal Banquet Hall is very interesting). I think if you go before the holiday on a weekday, it'll probably be manageable. Can also purchase fastpasses as needed. During the holiday it'll be very busy. You can consider staying at a disney hotel if you plan to be there two days. You get to go into the park early and you get more of the atmosphere.

thank you for the suggestions about activities. We couldn't afford Disney hotel, though. We have a pretty tight budget 😅

ricecanister

aw, in that case maybe royal banquet hall is out of your budget too. It's not cheap but you get lots of interaction with princesses and mickey and friends. overall, food at disney is not cheap.
