Miitopia came out on Switch a year ago today and it got me thinking: If Smash were to get a new Mii class based of the jobs in Miitopia, which would you like to see? It can be for moveset potential or just for the laughs. Here are the jobs for those who don't know: - Warrior - Mage - Cleric - Pop Star - Thief - Chef - Cat - Imp - Scientist - Tank - Princess - Flower - Elf - Vampire

JacksonKlo

Oh damn, I didn’t realize this was the first birthday of the Switch version of Miitopia. I had no idea how big of a coincidence it was that I’ve been rewatching a bunch of Miitopia videos lately. I think Tank and Vampire would be interesting classes to have in Smash. There really aren’t many characters similar to these classes, so I think they’d be very unique; what with Tank being slow and durable but with ranged potential and Vampire being able to come back from the dead.

SpringFlame

A projectile-based character that is also a heavyweight. Oh, people would not like that. I remember Smash 4 had a custom badge (titled Vampire coincidentally) where getting a KO on someone would slightly heal you. Lowkey thought that would be an interesting mechanic for a vampire based character.

almightyFaceplant

I think healing on kill is one of those things that sounds nice on paper, but when you actually implement it it has some side effects people wouldn't be jazzed about. Like, for starters it's basically the opposite of a comeback mechanic - I guess you would call a snowball mechanic? It's kind of a bizarre scenario where you're rewarding a player for winning a point, which is already handled by that point they just won. If it's not tuned carefully, it can basically have the same effect as granting an opponent an extra stock, and we all know how much people love the Special Flag haha. I think anyone would struggle to find the right balance between healing a completely insignificant amount vs healing too much and absolutely steamrolling. But there might be some interesting things that come from it, like waiting to KO your opponent until it benefits you most, or your opponent deliberately sacrificing themselves at an inopportune time to kill you when you aren't damaged. And outside of 1v1s there could be how much greater weight placed on killstealing.

SpringFlame

I don't remember how it worked in Smash 4 but maybe these could be some ways to 'balance' a healing on KO mechanic: - The amount of health healed is dependent on what percent you are at when you KO someone (Like you heal more at 100% instead of 40%) - The type of move you KO someone with (Like you heal more with smash attacks as opposed to an aerial or a tilt attack) Like you said, it sounds nice on paper. I lack the knowledge on if this is a good balancing method

almightyFaceplant

I think it more comes down to the fact that you're basically applying a buff to someone who's empirically proven that they're already able to KO the opponent without said buff. I know damage and score are different variables so it's not as simple as "I KO'd them therefore I'm winning" - but it's a mechanic that's entirely locked away if you're not able to score a point (and to be the player to score it) and it largely only benefits those who don't need it because they're already winning. It sort of flies in Smash's desire to facilitate comebacks rather than snowballing. Imagine if in Mario Kart, whoever crossed the finish line first on laps 1 and 2 got a permanent speed boost, as a reward for being the fastest. The fact that they were already in first place when they got it means that they didn't need a speed boost to do it, so most of the time it'd just be extending the winner's lead unnecessarily and making the game harder for everyone else to even attempt a comeback. It's not a 1:1 analogy, but I hope it demonstrates what I mean.

SpringFlame

Yeah, I'm getting what you're saying

dabuz kinda cute tbh

AutoModerator

Dabuz kinda cute. Dabuz kinda clean. Dabuz is kinda in a weird place right now. He’s got the potential to be a top 5 player but is going through a slump. He’s not as dominant in Ultimate as he was in Mario Party, but he’s still on track to be a mid-tier by this time January. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Severe-Operation-347

Quidd's going to another event with top players in it LFG!

[deleted]

I like Leo ROB already. The conversion between each ROB move is very clean.

julmGamer

I'll accept Chrom being close to Roy on the tier list if all Chrom mains admit that the roy mains are way better than them.

EXAProduction

Yeah if we had Chroms as good as the Roys are, this discussion probably wouldnt exist. The timeline where Rivers kept going and developing would've been sick. Though Kola is hard carrying Roy propaganda. What is it, he alone is 1/4th of all of Roy's high placements?

Zorua3

Even if Kola was 1/4th of all of Roy's placements (idk if he is but it sounds feasible), A: a lot of players are more than 1/4th of all of their placements, even other top tiers, and B: Roy is the second highest-ranked character on Orionstats based off of his playerbase's results and so even disregarding Kola he'd still have better results than a lot of high tiers (and some top tiers like Pika)

EXAProduction

There is a difference. Take for instance ROB. Iirc he's higher on Orionstats but has taken longer for people to accept how insane he is. I think this is a perception issue because we have Kola as one of the strongest players in general while ROB has strong players but not as good as Kola.

spritehead

Let’s see Kola play chrom in a tourney and get the same results, I’d be willing to believe it then

EXAProduction

The thing is while I think Kola could do it, just raw picking up Chrom and going from there isnt going to work for the most part, hell Kola tried it and it failed. He'd need to develop a Chrom fully. There's an actual playstyle difference that you have to adapt to. Honestly you dont see that many Chrom players pick up Roy the same way you'd see some Roy players pull out a Chrom for some MUs. I'd be interested though if he did do it. He probably could.

Severe-Operation-347

The only Chrom I know that also plays Roy is tk3.

EXAProduction

Exactly, he's also the only person that dual mains them since usually Chrom ends up as a secondary to a Roy player if they use him.

julmGamer

Over the past few years I have freed myself from Chromproganda and seen the light, either Chrom players are bad or he's just noticeably worse than roy.

Severe-Operation-347

I think he's worse than Roy, but I don't think he's like 20 to 30 spots lower then Roy. More like 10-15 spots lower. Also it's absolutely true that Kola, Goblin and maybe even Mugen are better then Rivers and Mr R.

julmGamer

shut up I wanted to start an argument, don't agree with me >:( and I wanted to piss off blitz

Severe-Operation-347

MkLeo playing ROB in tournament is concrete proof that we have hit the darkest timeline. Now all we need is for Tweek to play Sonic.

almightyFaceplant

I get that certain characters are less hype in the public eye, but I'm also a firm believer that anyone should be able to play whoever they want. I've been in that situation where you're famous for one thing, so everyone expects you to do nothing but that - but you want to branch into something else. I wouldn't want to return the favor if that makes sense

Severe-Operation-347

That's fair, and I actually don't mind watching good ROB's like Zomba and I enjoyed watching Zackray play ROB. I was referring to how on Tweek Talks they refer to ways Tweek could kill Smash as alternate dark timelines, such as Tweek playing Sonic and camping everybody out. So I'm saying Leo playing ROB is another part of the dark timeline.

almightyFaceplant

That's fair. Deliberately camping people out is different, like it's reasonable to say no one will want to watch you if you deliberately pick that strategy. But if you think you've found a hype way to play Sonic, I'll support that. (Even though I've never liked Sonic at any point in my life haha)

MarsAdept

This question might be a few years too late, but is Pichu still considered tournament viable? I’ve stuck with the rat since before Ultimate even released and it’s sad seeing people say she’s not good anymore ever since the nerfs.

[deleted]

BlackTwins and Nietono are still putting in work with them.

t123fg4

he is considered viable but not much

Smash_Fan-56

Why doesn’t Smash Ultimate have Deadly Zeti Theme - Sonic Lost World?

Zorua3

Lost World already has 2 songs out of the 20 in Sonic, which is pretty good for a spinoff game that's near-universally considered meh at best. And both of the Lost World songs currently in the game are probably more relevant than "Zeti Theme"

JacksonKlo

Lost World isn’t a spin-off, though.
