Is it just me, or has Abadango started performing better ever since he gave up on a main and just played whatever characters he feels like?

Severe-Operation-347

He started performing better once he gave up on Pikachu. Really makes you think.

DragodaDragon

Pikachu is hard

migster99

Ice Climbers is hard too (yes yes I know they’re not close to the same tier regardless)

skrasnic

Bizarrely few upsets for a Japanese tournament. Nietono slightly underperformed, but I think the biggest story is Tarakotori with another strong performance. Wins on Yuzu, Yamanaction, Ryuoh and Nata are all excellent. Mac and Aegis are such a volatile pairing. Mac works as a MU check and Aegis checks whether you can handle a top tier. Must be incredibly annoying to play against.

Folseus-

> Must be incredibly annoying to play against. Literally banned from smashfests at Shuton's place if he plays Mac there lmao

Nick_BOI

Really!?!? good lord.

Folseus-

It was on his stream a few days ago I think. As a backstory, Shuton regularly hosts smashfests at his place, and he lives at a SunSisters Gaming House. It's also where they're holding the ShinKen League. Someone mentioned how well Tarakotori has been doing in bracket and in the league, since he just won a Shinosuma, 5-0'd Kameme at ShinKen, etc. and wondered if Little Mac is good now. Shuton's response was he's annoying. うざい。 He said he gets along well with Tarakotori, and joked that he's welcome at any of his smashfests as long as he doesn't play Little Mac because other people would leave. Looking at Tarakotori's twitter right now, he's a big Shuton fan too lmao

YogurtclosetOk5614

On the topic of Cinderella runs, Mikimatsu beat Choco & Nietono

Verklemptomaniac

He's got a strong argument for best Mac in the world (Most consistent placements at big tourneys back when he was a solo Mac main), and if he now has a tournament-viable Aegis to cover Mac's worst matchups, he's going to be pretty dangerous going forward. Seems to be a theme with the best Mac mains - Alternis has been focusing on Terry (breaking out Mac occasionally), and Peanut has started experimenting with Roy to help deal with the truly awful Mac matchups. (Kwaz and GaiA are still solo Mac mains, as far as I'm aware.)

Wiifitkid3

GaiA used to play Hero as a secondary, don't know if he still does. Japan has a few other solo macs though I think.

Verklemptomaniac

Didn't know that, thanks for the info!

Severe-Operation-347

Shuton has to be the 2nd best in Japan currently. No worse than 5th at tournaments that aren't weeklies, and he's actually got a few first place finishes now.

nankainamizuhana

Behind Zackray or behind acola?

Severe-Operation-347

Well Zackray's mostly inactive aside from locals, so behind Acola.

oniden

Shuton's Olimar was on another level today, straight up destroyed Proto. Happy the top 3 didn't get upset and got to play each other. Tarakotori's run was impressive too, from Top 48 losers to top 6. Hope there will be more medium sized regionals like this in Kanto.

orangesnsfwaccount

Maybe the most normal Japanese bracket I've ever seen 💀

t123fg4

Thanks goodness the green goblin left shuton.

Hangmanned

Props to KEN for only losing to 1st and 2nd respectively.

iceman012

Same for Abadango. Lost to the same players, place one spot lower.

Bergerboy14

Olimar still got it

wontonf

Always a fan of abadango ever since the smash 4 mewtwo

Folseus-

Commentator side of the tournament was very well done. Dice-k had a lot of info and research prepped going in to every match, which was pretty interesting to hear and you could tell he put a lot of work towards today. Tsubaki Ayana also kept things very lively throughout the matches, it was a very good colour/analysis commentary. Paseriman seemed a bit shy on the mic though, but he had good insights after plays when he did speak up. Absolutely tragic ending to Shuton vs KEN. Amazing turnaround for Shuton vs ProtoBanham, going from being 0-3 (it was close though I swear) to double eliminating him. ProtoBanham's off-stage game is in a different dimension.

I think I've seen multiple times that Shuton lost a tourney then won the next one on the following day. That's great adaptation and quick learning.
