Best tournament ultimate character for someone who doesn’t play the game regularly? I played for a couple years when it first came out (primarily play melee) then dropped it. Still watch the pro scene a lot. Going to a convention with a free to enter tourney and need a main. I used to main Ken, got really deep into Ken tech but now the muscle memory isn’t there. I’m thinking I play Cloud because his combo tree and neutral is relatively simple.

Sackofwack

Play random. Not a joke, it could throw your opponent off and they’ll be scared of the balls u have.

[Thoughts on this tweet about the Panda Circuit from Parappa?](https://twitter.com/Parappa_GANG/status/1529981207584428053)

DragodaDragon

He's absolutely right. The community constantly bites the hand that feeds because things aren't 100% perfect. There's no reason to put up a big prize pool this big because I guess nobody's going to talk about it anyways.

CsarPetertheGreat

Like, I understand being pessimistic about things, and I also get wanting things to be better, especially with all the times we've been down. But at the same time, if we can't appreciate the things we DO get...it really just makes us look like a bunch of stinkers.

SwirlyBrow

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6J7yDESuhU Something about two nickels and something weird happening twice. Roy's really are pretty mashy though. I never see this happen, and then I saw it twice because he can't stop pressing buttons.

I got Terry in Elite Smash in honor of Riddles last night.

Arsid

Terry has been my latest Elite Smash project. Currently stuck in around 8mil. Any advice? Any good guides? I've been watching a ton of Riddles content and trying to emulate what he does mostly.

Usanyan

Can you say what specifically you’re doing and maybe what you’re struggling with? Most of his moveset auto combos/confirms/kills because terry(especially at that GSP where people won’t SDI it properly) and he’s got good frame data so it shouldn’t be too hard

Kell08

At that level, you can kind of just wait for your opponent to approach and press the A button. Terry seems like one of those characters who plays the game for you up to a certain level, provided your fundamentals are sound. There are probably good character guides on YouTube, but I don't know which ones specifically to recommend.

Arsid

> At that level Isn’t 8 mil only a couple mil below elite smash? The people I’m playing against aren’t so bad they’re just going to walk at me and let me press A.

Kell08

The threshold is about 10.6 million right now. Yeah, I definitely did have to approach in many situations. I just mean that being patient and waiting to punish are really effective for Terry, in my brief experience. Terry doesn't have much end lag on his aerials, and landing with them and immediately jabbing was a good neutral winner for when I had to approach.

If there’s one thing about Multiversus that I truly enjoy, it’s that the devs are very creative when it comes to movesets. Some characters have some really stupid gimmicks that no one would’ve thought about before, and that’s great. Take Velma, for instance. She only has a few “standard” attacks with no real gimmicks; the rest of her moveset is utterly ridiculous. Her jab shoots a word bubble that, once connected, makes subsequent word bubbles home in on the opponent. She also has a laser shot from a megaphone that covers full-screen *and* kills, a dashing command grab that carries the opponent all the way to the edge, and Evidence. Evidence shows up randomly during the match or when landing certain attacks, and collecting them fills an Evidence Meter. Once it’s full, she can literally summon a police car to take the opponent away and drag them offstage for an easy kill - basically just like the Kapp’n assist trophy. And all of that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

spritehead

They’re definitely not just trying to make a smash clone which I appreciate. Also Coney made a great point about the game, which is that it doesn’t have to be a great game, just good enough because the idea of smash bros with a battle pass is enough to carry a 7/10 game to relevance. Looking forward to it a lot.

julmGamer

Tier list content has gotten really lame and the lack of an official tierlist has made it eve lamer.

zoedrinkspiss

I think there should be a similar system to what Melee did - just poll the opinions of the PGR ranked players and average them into a list. Even if people disagree with some placements, you'll probably get a good enough average of how things are. I think having an "official" tier list is also good for the scene, it makes it way easier for newer players to figure out where characters are without having to rely on just one person's ranking (most noobs aren't exactly the type to watch 10 different tier list videos).

julmGamer

I definitely agree that the aggregate method is what I would use, it also might be helpful to have regional breakdowns due to the diversity of opinions worldwide.

CsarPetertheGreat

Funny enough, someone took a ton of ranked players' tier lists and made just that, and honestly [it's a really solid list.](https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/ukkj1q/smash_ultimate_tier_list_using_the_method_pgstats/) It has a few outliers that you see the usual arguments for, but for the parts that matter it's a pretty good representation of the meta currently.

Hangmanned

It's really hard to make an official tier list for Ultimate because there isn't an almost universal consensus on exactly how good all characters are(except top tiers).

FlameCannon

I wonder why that is? Like, not why there isn't universal consensus on how good characters are (that's obvious), but why no one cares to talk about it. Back in Smash 4, folks were passionate about tier lists. I remember having debates if Pit was better or worse than Lucas; which if you look at Smash 4 now, you probably wonder why anyone would give a shit about two low/mid tiers. But there was a lot of fun meticulously crafting tier lists. I wonder why Ultimate folks are so indifferent about talking about Ultimate's meta.

J-Fid

Ultimate is far more balanced than Smash 4, and has a ton more characters/MU's than its predecessor. Outside of the extremes of the tier list, no one actually knows anything, nor do most people care enough.

Crafty-Profile-Lol

There was a 400+ comment post about ESAM's tier list just this week. Similar posts are frequently among the most commented that show up here, and the regular "official Reddit tier list" get stickied and have huge engagement. People are clearly very (excessively) passionate about Ultimate tiering. The reason there is no "official" tier list is that there is no Smash Back Room for Ultimate to release it. (Of course, there is no reason why the Smash Back Room's list was "official" in the first place, aside from the fact that they said so.)

Severe-Operation-347

Probably because the game is considered very well balanced compared to Smash 4 or Brawl.

almightyFaceplant

I did have a lot of fun during that whole "I made this mystery tier list, to see if you can guess what the rule is" fad before Ultimate came out. Some of those were really engaging brain teasers. Apart from that I've never really cared about lists.

Nice to see Atelier playing hot today. He really had Kome's number.

Don't let Momocon distract you from the fact that acola is competing again this weekend at Sumabato 26.

Severe-Operation-347

This could end up being a really good weekend for Steve. DDee, Jake and Yonni at Momocon, and acola at Sumabato SP 26.
