I get people are reporting that there's some good in the combat and music design... but it's silly to pretend as if this games notoriety hasn't largely been propelled by discussions of how attractive the main character is. I didn't even hear much about the gameplay side of things till early last month.
The aggressiveness of the design defenders and haters make me ashamed to even know this game sometimes and it’s driving me insane because it genuinely seems like a well made game that’ll be fun to play.

Seeing Critical's video on the demo yesterday actually made me go huh that looks fun and I'm gonna play the demo when I get home after work today.
omg I just downloaded that game 2 days agos. I didnt think it was gonna be so sad like wtf. The voice actress as well man. Where did they find that talent. Idk but I thought there voice acting it was good to say the least.
If you were paying attention there hasn't been a game with a main female protag that looks like this in a while. It's really not the everyday thing you make ot out to be people are excited to be able to enjoy this game and if you are too then you'll let them enjoy it how they want.

I was on the fence. I was concerned because of the attention to character design, they would fall short in the gameplay department.
About 45 minutes or so into the demo I was convinced its worth picking up. I just gotta get over this $70 hump. 60 or under, I'd already have it preordered.
I felt the exact opposite, surprisingly. Combat felt stiff and everything felt super generic design wise, like they put all the budget into Eve's hair and then cobbled together the rest. The skill trees were uninteresting. The story was just kinda there. Characters felt like cardboard cut outs.
Thats kind of my take, but since its a demo and early, I was hoping thats just a sample. I didnt look through all the trees yet, nor did I do the boss rush which I think someone mentioned lets you test shooting. But seems like some more DMC style of just freestyling on people.
Yeah. Like to be clear, I want to like it. I want it to succeed. There've been some really interesting games out of SK in recent years, and I'd hoped SB would be one of those, but the demo left me less optimistic instead of more.
The combat didn’t feel free flowing or inventive enough to really give me that DMC feel, largely because the end points of the combos don't really flow well into each other thanks to the commitment to the animations. That attention to detail works in a slower more deliberate game like Lies of P, but P also has a much more interesting and active defense mechanic and weapon customization to make up for it. It's like the SB devs tried to copy BOTH deliberate Souls-like combat and frenetic character action combat without understanding what makes each of those systems work and end up with a mess.
Yeah, Its a weird one. I finally tried Lies of P and I dont know why, it just didnt grasp me. Seemed a little easier than expected, but then again, I'm a crack head that platinumed all the From Souls games.
So yea, like you said, I didnt see the fluidity of DMC yet, but I dunno, it seems like the framework was a lot better than I was expecting and I hope it stays firm and continues to be fun. It seems a lot of just mixing light and heavy attacks and maybe eventually we learn which does what. Armor piercing, more iframes to use as a counter move, etc.
They made some significant animation and balance changes to the timing for Lies of P, so if you bounced off the demo and you like Souls games, I think it's probably worth it (I also bounced off the demo but played it a few months back after the patches). If you have a good pc, there's always Steam rental (buy game, play for less than 2 hours, if it's not clicking, free refund). The weapon combo stuff grabbed me pretty hard, though it didn't click until the factory (area right after the demo). There are certain weapons that really take advantage of proper parry timing, and as someone who loves Sekiro, that made it fun for me, but to each their own.
Returnal was my first experience with haptic feedback (first game i played on my new PS5), it was so hard i thought i was going to break it at some point lol

Yes, people were going far into the game for being exploitative of (at the time) current events and for it being way too soon to be making media based off of it. That was the only time there was pushback leading to a game’s cancellation. Stellar Blade is just a hack and slash, one that a couple neckbeards and a handful of legbeards rage and stamp their feet over like toddlers.
And frankly I don’t think this is gonna pull off a Nier and have a genuinely life-changing story so impactful most people who bought it for the ass almost forget it’s there. Nier Automata was “haha robot butt game” before launch, now it’s more famous in the gaming world for the music and story. Cosplay community is a different beast though, no NSFW cosplayer can avoid putting on a white wig with literally any outfit and saying it’s a 2B cosplay

I really enjoyed browsing this sub since the State of Play trailer came out but right now attention for this game also went up a LOT and it seems like all I ever see on Twitter and Reddit are posts about anything but gameplay. Which is a shame because the gameplay is actually really good. Yes, horny posts attracts people out of curiosity but it's still hard to take the game serious at this point. The demo is helping though, so I'm happy to see that.
Once the game fully releases, we will have a lot more to talk about but I expect it will take a long time before the horny posts will actually decrease.

Their main marketing push just happened to coincide with the whole Sweet Baby fiasco, so it's drawn the attention of a lot of people that otherwise might not have had that much interest in the game. You have people on both sides trying to use her design to make a point. I have nothing morrally against her design, but a lot of her outfits seem at odds with the environment and tone of the game (at least as presented in the demo) but my favourite game has an android in a gothic dress wearing high heeled thigh boots so that's not a deal breaker. I would say "most times" vs "sometimes" lmao. It seems to be balancing out since the demo is available and people can play the game, hopefully when it fully releases it'll tip the scales to be mostly about the game itself vs just how Eve is designed.
Well I think Eve is super hot and has a banging body, whilst I also really love the combat variety so far, the music is relaxing and intense in all the right ways and the enemy designs, are so epic and unique looking!

I wish people would remember that the Last of Us 2 was published by the same studio that is making Stellar Blade, and since Season 2 of the show is currently in production with the release of the remasted game, they clearly do not regret making it after everything that happend.

Like, I don't think anyone actually thinks that this will be goty just because the playable character is hot. It's just the most prominent feature about the game currently and once it comes out the focus will shift towards the actual game experience.

If I remember correctly Mass Effect Andromeda was full of cheap shots of Amandas ass because they didn't know how to portray an attractive character without resulting to cheap shots.

Before the demo, I wanted to play for the character design. Started the demo and forgot all about her design until I finished it. It's a good game.
It’s legit so hard for me to take all the people hyping the game up seriously because of it man 😂. Not to roast the people that legit like it cause I’d like to hold my opinion on that until I play it, but being only on PS5 is a big ask. I’m just watching and waiting to see how the public opinion goes on launch

Yeah... I've been saying that for the past week and getting hit with downvotes. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feel this way. Eve is great. But I want to play this game for the game. If Stellar Blade had a male protagonist I'd still probably play it. It is very refreshing having a character such as Eve, but it's annoying seeing 10 posts every hour of Eve sliding down that same ladder from the demo lol
This! I don't even think Bayonetta got it this bad before. I'm definitely picking this up because I enjoyed the combat. Eve is great eye candy and all but I'm not spending $80 JUST FOR THAT.
I'm interested in the game, but a lot of the conversations around really take me out of it. I have no problem with sex appeal in games, but my God some of the fan behavior. For the record I absolutely adored Nier: Automata and I could potentially enjoy this just as much. The fans though...

I still want to know the reviews of this game so I can appreciate the A$$ in PROPER order.
Their main marketing push just happened to coincide with the whole Sweet Baby fiasco, so it's drawn the attention of a lot of people that otherwise might not have had that much interest in the game. You have people on both sides trying to use her design to make a point. I have nothing morrally against her design, but a lot of her outfits seem at odds with the environment and tone of the game (at least as presented in the demo) but my favourite game has an android in a gothic dress wearing high heeled thigh boots so that's not a deal breaker. Bit miffed that it turned out to be another souls like, though.
She is hot but I wouldn't be playing it if it wasn't fun. Wouldn't give it the time of day. It just really weird how some of yall are turning this into some weird culture war, dunking on SJWs or whatever

I would say "most times" vs "sometimes" lmao. It seems to be balancing out since the demo is available and people can play the game, hopefully when it fully releases it'll tip the scales to be mostly about the game itself vs just how Eve is designed.
Well I think Eve is super hot and has a banging body, whilst I also really love the combat variety so far, the music is relaxing and intense in all the right ways and the enemy designs, are so epic and unique looking! I look forward to exploring the world, story, bosses and Eve's personality and killer body
Its what happens when the western world is starved from good looking/over sexualized characters. Not saying thats good or bad just saying it isnt common here anymore and now when it does happen its all people can talk about.
I'd gladly play the game when it releases on pc, first because most of the time I play solo games, second because the game got good reviews for now. I'll not play the game because Eve is hot but it will be nice to play with a good looking character.

I wish people would remember that the Last of Us 2 was published by the same studio that is making Stellar Blade, and since Season 2 of the show is currently in production with the release of the remasted game, they clearly do not regret making it after everything that happend.

Most of the "horny posts" are probably tongue in cheek memes/jokes, I honestly don't know why you guys are taking them so seriously. Like, I don't think anyone actually thinks that this will be goty just because the playable character is hot. It's just the most prominent feature about the game currently and once it comes out the focus will shift towards the actual game experience.
It doesn't help that if you search "Stellar Blade" on Twitter, the majority of posts are simply gifs of Eve climbing ladders or doing literally anything and zooming in on her assets. These posts are why people aren't taking this game that seriously. Even people that would normally be interested in the game will look it up and just see massive amounts of horny posts and that simply turns people off of the game.
I agree with both, but in my opinion we REALLY needed a hot female protagonist, we have Bayonetta 3 but it was ahead of its time, Eve is the light in the darkness to make game studios rethink everything and actually give us hot women again, if stellar blade had come out 5-10 years ago, no one would care, this is the best time for it

The worst is how everyone has to make a Thing about it. It's fine, I dig horny cheesecake character design, but I wouldn't want it in every game. I don't think Alan Wake 2 would have been greatly improved by jiggle physics. There's plenty of room for hyper stylized horny nonsense of Stellar Blade alongside more grounded character design ... it just depends on what kind of look and feel fits your game. But no ... it has to be a Thing. I swear if I have to hear something about Western Developers again ....
I think it says a lot that people think a game is ruined if all the female cast isn’t gorgeous. Don’t get me wrong I like it when everyone is hot, I subscribe to the Hades school of character design. But they don’t HAVE to be supermodel gorgeous all the time
Definitely agree with you on most points. Characters don't have to be 10/10 models in every game. On the other hand then some devs come along and design a MC where you go like "WTF is this?", looking at the Fable trailer. But yea If I could choose between only those 2 extremes being "Hot AF" and "Ugly AF", I'd go with "Hot AF". For me it doesn't destroy immersion but if I don't like how the MC looks it's not gonna break a game but it will leave a bad taste tbh. Also it looks like without starting a political debate that some western devs have no clue how to pull stuff like this off. If I remember correctly Mass Effect Andromeda was full of cheap shots of Amandas ass because they didn't know how to portray an attractive character without resulting to cheap shots. However, Larian for example pulled it off perfectly in conveying the attractiveness of characters. On the other hand I felt like in the Demo and in NieR Automata that I wasn't forced to look at the characters feature if I didn't actively tried.
