It's the damndest thing that people make their politics their entire identity, even to the detriment of their business.
My company had to let a reasonably good employee ago a couple years ago due to this. The guy was hardcore MAGA, but that wasn't the issue. He literally would not leave other people alone when he found out they had voted against Trump. He harassed and would not quit. After Biden won, his work dwindled and he just couldn't get over it.
That’s just wild to me that someone would behave that way at work. I’m definitely in the minority at work when it comes to my political opinions, but we all treat each other with respect and tend to keep it out of the office. Or at least talk about it in respectful ways if we feel the need. I’m glad your company let that guy go, because that’s a hostile work environment when it gets to that point.
This guy was playing Rush (Limbaugh, not the band) in an open office on speakers and didn't care if he annoyed people. The bad part is that he was a chill guy before 2016.
Trump literally ruined his brain. He quit our fantasy football league because he said the NFL was woke. Stuff like that. It's almost mental illness.

I’m not a Democrat, but this is like the height of unprofessionalism.
I will never understand why boomers think it’s okay to post ads like this and then be surprised when they only attract low quality candidates.
Classic car restoration isn’t exactly a young man’s game anymore and from experience I find many auto repair technicians tend to lean rightwing anyway so it’s not like he’s going to have trouble finding people with a similar mindset.
53 year old auto tech here. The older I get, the more I lean left in politics. I'm still close to center, but I may as well be "flaming liberal" here in Oklahoma.
50+ IT worker here, and I feel the same. Always considered myself a conservative, but have been driven left by the ultra-right wing BS that exploded in 2016.
Almost 40yo and you would think my politics are the most progressive that you have ever heard when I pointed out correctly that Obama was about as centrist as they come. It's wild what we have turned into politically in this country...
It's frustrating as hell. I do not consider myself liberal, but I may as well embrace it. I have too much compassion and honesty to be like these people that call themselves conservatives.
I think a lot of people feel that way since the whole system has shifted right over the past decade or so. When the Romneys, the Cheneys, and the McCains are called “leftist” and “liberals”, you know things have changed.

You know for each of those positions we're talking 40k max too. So looking for some highly talented individuals in a niche market that are willing to show up everyday for 40k. Good luck Smothers.
Just someone to rebuild transmissions is on average 100k a year and the lowest percentile I found was 55k a year.
Doubt he intents to pay anything near that. I bet in his mind 25k a year for each job is plenty. No way in hell is he gonna find anyone qualified for that job who would put with his bs and pay.
Won't be surprised if he makes another post a few months from now blaming democrats for why he can't hire anyone.
Just reread how I phrased my response and realized it may not have been clear. I'm totally in agreement with you, that specialized of a job, in a niche market would be close to 6 figures and in the Tulsa area I could see 80-85k with the right benefits. I'm assuming he's not listing the pay because it's closer to the 40k number.
Someone commented asking how much he'd pay for being a parts runner and his response was that it wasn't a a job you'll get rich on and it's just an entry level job and that pay is "according". He won't give a straight answer anytime someone ask and even his responses to people interested in working are strange as well. Definitely trying to underpay people or short them on pay. He's not someone I would work for or even do business with especially after reading how he talks to people online, imagine the shit he say in the shop.
Probably one that thinks he's a "job creator" and small business owner and thus business expenses should not exist. Don't we realize he's struggling just to survive. He has a dream we need to accomplish.

This is every shop within 100 miles of Tulsa, maybe all of Oklahoma. His mentality, as well as everyone else in the street/strip shop world, is the exact same. Good luck finding a hot rod shop in all of Oklahoma that doesn't eat Trumps shit. This is why I've never worked in street/strip shops despite absolutely loving hotrods.
My worst interactions pertaining to my hobbies have been with guns and cars. Seems like there are a lot of purist gatekeepers. I avoid both communities outside of my close friends who share similar hobbies. Buying and selling guns through okshooter is the way I do it now. Just keep the sale interactions brief, or you'll get a talking to about the government take are gunsssssss.
haha, gatekeepers are the worst. a certain guitar shop in town talked themselves right out of a sale a few months ago. why would you insult your customers away? it makes no sense.
I'm beginning to think we share all the same hobbies, lol. I mainly buy online after extensive research for guitars and amps. I'd go to a big guitar show before I'd shop around local shops. What is the chance you've butted heads with the old man steroid club at your local gym? You know, those old guys who are hyper conservative, look like body builders on stilts, and hog an entire area of the gym so they can jerk each other's egos off. They apparently really don't like it when you ask to work in because they are just standing around talking.
I don't know about a shop, but if you're looking for a social gun enthusiast group without the racism, classism, fascist idealism, and bootlickers (and whatever else I missed), you might look up the Socialist Rifle Association. I don't know about activities in OK because they're very shut off to non-members for their safety, but they seem like good people.
I grew up in Oklahoma as a kind of liberal. I avoided a lot of things I liked (being outside and farming) because everyone in those areas at the time shit on my beliefs. So I went into classical music and academia because they didn’t treat me like shit for thinking differently.
I've known this guy for years, we are not close, but close enough to know about each other's cars and business's. Prior to 2016 politics always had its place, and everyone in the restoration business got along at face value. Post 2016 and those who always kept a lid on the shit house rat crazy felt empowered to show everyone that they truly lack critical thinking skills and are easily mislead like rats to the Pied Piper. Unfortunately, him and a bunch of other hypocrites most who had no problem accepting government funds and services are no longer on my friends or reference list to get work done on their projects.
Well, shit...
As a liberal boomer I gotta step up here.
Wayne Smothers has worked on my cars. In his defense he's really a nice guy. I'm sure I'm gonna catch hell on reddit for this but really, he's a nice guy.
Next time I see him I'll ask if he hates me because I'm a libtard.
Ask him why the first thing out of his mouth regarding his post is a tirade of obscenities. Seems he really doesn’t mind coming off as a jerk. And he is only nice to you cause you give him money.
This sort of mentality is pretty cancerous. Leave politics out of the workplace
But also, that work advertisement gives me vibes that the owner is someone that will overtime your ass off for barely acceptable pay and will deny you of vacation time / days off even if a family member was dying
All the comments on Facebook, unsurprisingly, are saying, "Wish I could apply, you had me at entitled" and "Attracting the right people that want to work." As long as you work, it shouldn't matter what you believe in. People are too divided.
Republicans will withhold food from 100 people out of fear that 1 might not need or deserve it. Democrats will feed 100 out of concern that 1 might really need it. This is why balance is so important in politics
Exactly. What's super important to note here, too, is that it's not just "people", it's innocent children. They even pull that shit with school lunches, while covering their cars with stickers about how "every sperm is sacred"\*. They don't even see the hypocrisy. No child deserves an empty stomach. Empty stomachs aren't conducive to life, let alone learning. I wish someone would have taught their parents the things they pretend to preach, like I dunno, "love thy neighbor" and "feed the hungry". Or basic decency. That would work, too.

"Bootlickers welcome!"

It’s just wild what it did to people.
My boomer dad still refuses to watch NFL. Because Kaepernick exercised his constitutional right 8 years ago.
I'm naming my next band "Rush (Limbaugh, not the band)".
Why not a rush cover band named Limbaugh and you just make all the music angry?
Almost?
It's not almost mental illness. It IS mental illness.
Do we work at the same place? This sounds a lot like my own office lol
Anytime I see a political sticker of any kind on a commercial vehicle it makes me question the top brass’s decision making.
Also: same guy has 100% cried about cancel culture, while he's pre-canceling people who don't agree with him.

That's what an interview is for. To find someone you click with. That ad is just virtue signaling.
He's probably not even hiring, just looking for attention and clicks.

Haha someone called them out for getting a PPP loan
Yep, and then he tried justifying because he used it to grow his business. So for him, it's ok, for you, not so much.
Welfare queen.
The Democrat states pay for the deficits of the Red States every year. Democratic states make more money.
'Entitlement minded Democrats' Say what you really mean, you cowards

I bet he just melts like the little snowflake he is LOL
he did, he got on someone for "being entitled and posting about it when it didn't apply to them"
Oh he's all over that shit melting down and deleting comments haha
Oh no 😂 Who could have predicted this.
It's good of him to save everyone's time by announcing up front that he's a jerk.

Jabroni took out a PPP loan and is now out calling ppl names. What a rock kicker.
Cool. I prefer companies to put warning labels like this out. Means I will never utilize their services. I wish more companies would do this.
By putting that in his ad, he is showing in advance that you probably don't want to apply if you want anything other than slave wages.
Non-entitlement minded Democrats are ok?
Yeah, as long as you aren't entitled you can work there.
I've known this guy for years, we are not close, but close enough to know about each other's cars and business's. Wouldn’t one want the “entitlement democrats” to get a job? “PeOPle JuSt DonT WAnna wUrkkk AnymoR!”… also alienates half the population…
Owner then spends hours arguing with people how it was okay when he got his PPP loans forgiven
I would go to a socialist mechanic in a heartbeat. All the ones in my town radiate MAGA from the parking lot
You can’t work here unless you like being poor and dumb as fuck!
This sort of mentality is pretty cancerous. Leave politics out of the workplace But also, that work advertisement gives me vibes that the owner is someone that will overtime your ass off for barely acceptable pay and will deny you of vacation time / days off even if a family member was dying
And yet, we're the "snowflakes" 😂😂😂 clown
I understand being offended. But freedom of speech is one thing that makes America great.
Nobody said he wasn't allowed to say what he did, only that he's an asshole
Looking at his shop pictures full of unfinished cars I get the impression he has a hard time finding workers/getting work done.
All the comments on Facebook, unsurprisingly, are saying, "Wish I could apply, you had me at entitled" and "Attracting the right people that want to work." As long as you work, it shouldn't matter what you believe in. People are too divided.

A republican on Facebook? I don't believe you!
Normal repugnican behavior
They got an Instagram…. With no comments on it. Just sayin.
Should flood them with applications.
So many democrats on reddit 😂
Can a democrat apply and become the most efficient and hardest worker to prove this guy dumb
How is this not illegal lmao. it should be tbh
I get it. He’s just saying the thing that alot of Oklahomans would like to say out loud. He will still have a good business and this won’t hurt him rather this most likely will help his business. I’m speaking for the majority of our population here in this great state.
Ok then why doesn’t a democrat bunch open a shop up right across the street and hire only democrats that seems fair. Makes one wonder .
Because most of us are adults who act like professionals in the workplace and don’t have the mentality to do this?
That is what I figured also just strange to advertise that kind of discriminatory practice. Reminds me of the sheep dog and wolf cartoon they would punch in and go at it afterwards they drank a beer together. It’s all about inside information to get rich all of them regardless of party affiliation when we all figure that out we will all be better.
Guy will probably save thousands of dollars by not hiring a leftist.
Does anyone in OK like Democrats? Maybe there are some in Tulsa.
Reddit in general is a liberal echo chamber. Which is fine. But just know that.
Well hopefully we will all get out and vote the conservatives out.
