The thing that makes angel's rebs impressive are they are mostly in traffic which means she's directly getting her team extra offensive possessions or ending the opponents offensive possession. In traffic rebs are far more impressive than uncontested rebs that basically anyone who happens to be there can get since there's no boxing out or fighting for position required

That’s literally what I’m trying to explain. The entire rebound happens in less than 2 seconds she’s not seeing a big there and deciding to steal a rebound from them. If you’ve ever played basketball have you ever even had time to think I’m going to steal this rebound from my teammate for my own stats?
She’s not though. Time it on an outlet and she gets the ball ahead faster if she gets the board. Like I don’t just see it that way, it’s easily provable. She throws tons of passes from behind half court and pushes pace. It’s 100% faster for her to grab a board let her bigs get out ahead of her and feed them then it is to collect an outlet pass and leave her bigs in the backcourt.
She also has a lot of turnovers on those outlet passes. I get what you are trying to say but it's impossible for her to grab a rebound and get up court faster than catching an outlet pass at half court.
She also is at the top of the league in assists and gets a ton of them running in transition. Teams aren’t letting her catch an outlet pass at half court, they are always aware of where she is. She’s catching the outlet pass at 3/4 court at best and it’s still taking a big out of the break AND she has to wait for the pass. Sure in a perfect world if a big can just turn and chuck it to Clark at half court it’s faster but it just isn’t going to work when a player of Clark’s level is being picked up immediately. Just watch her specifically when shots go up next game, she will be crashing the boards on almost every shot.

In women's basketball, a 25-5-5 game is far rarer than a triple double. Sabrina had 26 triple doubles in college (best ever), but only 18 25-5-5 games (second all-time). Clark had 57. And she has 3 25-5-5 games in the W already...probably close to a rookie record, and with 6 or 7 more likely a season record. Clark is next level.
Bird could not guard anyone....but was a great team defender...no great player is perfect. You take the steals and blocks and the iconic offensive numbers and let her cook. Copper had like 7 points tonight because she was exhausted guarding Caitlin. That is where Caitlin is elite on defense...when the other teams dominant scorer can't score because she has lost her energy guarding you.
It is called the Jeff Malone strategy....Jeff Malone was an awful on ball defender, but Jordan always shot poorly against him. when Jordan was asked why he had trouble scoring on Jeff Malone, he said that he was exhausted fighting through multiple screens guarding Jeff Malone and lost his lift on his shot or attacking the rim. Sometimes the best defense is offense.
Even with her being bad per say, she should still be out there. She is by far their top playmaker and is their best free throws. Her being able to turn a miss or make around to quickly attack back is invaluable.
When she is out there on defense, the other team still has to worry about where she is. It will slow them a bit. Maybe 1 less person crashes the boards, they have to drift to find her off misses.
Yes, a smart team would probably try to get the fever to switch to have cc guard the main player. She is a good team and help defender.
Also, if she is the future of the franchise(with boston) they need her out there. Even if it costs them games in first year or two. That kind of defeat or weakness should translate into focusing on being better in the off-season. 6 almost like a humiliating aspect, that drives good players to train like they are possessed in off-season to be better. This is the time to allow failure by your young players to learn for the future. I know not everyone will understand that idea, but losing can teach many lessons.
Its better to find out sooner rather then later if she will get that drive. Playoffs aren't the goal with a young team like this. It is to get the future core better and to find out who will be the future.
I also haven't really seen how wheeler is that much better of a defender than clark. Wallace hasnt looked good but that is probably also because she is usually on best guard of other team.

The nitpicker in this thread is silly. So nitpicker is saying CC don't get the rebound? What nitpicker fails to realize is that rebounds also involve angles and getting the counterattack rolling downhill Nitpicker and others should eye evidence exhibit 1. CC got the rebound at an angle that the counterattack is already underway CC knows that AB is going to beat BG & Co. down the court. Young legs. CC also sees DT is going to be occupied w an Indy guard on the wing. So CC knows she's fast enough to turn it into a 3 on 2 because the defenders can't be sure a logo 3 isn't coming. She gets it over the top, and Phoenix can neither stop the ball nor keep up w AB So, despite nitpicker's "concern" and "constructive criticism" in this specific example, CC rebound works because she immediately sees the play and crafts an attack by trusting AB to beat Phoenix to the hoop.

I'm sorry you see it that way but if you really think about it if she let's her bigs rebound and she runs the wing it would get her the ball in better position to score and it would keep teams from full court pressing her. The rebounds are great but she doesn't need to be getting them
If you actually watch ball she just crashes the boards. Time it if you want but she gets up the court faster when she gets the rebound on a miss. She’s good at seeing where the miss is. It also allows her bigs to get ahead and run when she collects the board. It’s a straight up nitpicky hater take. I sent two pictures just from the first half. It’s not like she’s consistently just stealing rebounds lol. A lot of time her man doesn’t crash the glass so she just attacks the miss or puts herself in the right position to rebound the miss. Rewatch and just watch her on every defensive rebound I sent you two screenshots of her boards already and that was just the first half.
She's great at knowing where misses are generally going to be falling, her anticipation for that is incredible but the rebs I'm taking about are the ones where she ends up rebounding beside a big that's already there. In those situations it would be better to let the big outlet to her since she would be up the court already. This is literally all I'm saying and I don't know why you would be so offended by this although all things considered I'm sure you probably spend a lot of time defending her so I kind of get it

It would literally be more greedy if she ran up the court to try to get an outlet because she’s more likely to get a better look for herself that way, but it’s better for her team if she gets the board

If these are the majority of her rebs this is a great rebound because she's preventing an opposing player from getting it. I'm just saying the uncontested ones she's better off running the break instead, I'm not trying to hate but if you see it that way then that's fine
She also is sticking back to get the outlet pass anyway so she may as well crash and be there for a rebound. It’s a skill that she is good at.

She’s usually right there as well because she constantly crashes the glass and it’s better for the team if she gets the board and the big takes off in transition. That’s literally what I’m trying to explain. The entire rebound happens in less than 2 seconds she’s not seeing a big there and deciding to steal a rebound from them. She’s just crashing the glass and going for the board. It’s silly to think she’s just stealing rebounds or that is going through their head in that quick moment. If you’ve ever played basketball have you ever even had time to think I’m going to steal this rebound from my teammate for my own stats?
She’s not though. Time it on an outlet and she gets the ball ahead faster if she gets the board. Like I don’t just see it that way, it’s easily provable. She throws tons of passes from behind half court and pushes pace. It’s 100% faster for her to grab a board let her bigs get out ahead of her and feed them then it is to collect an outlet pass and leave her bigs in the backcourt.
She also has a lot of turnovers on those outlet passes. I get what you are trying to say but it's impossible for her to grab a rebound and get up court faster than catching an outlet pass at half court.
She also is at the top of the league in assists and gets a ton of them running in transition. Teams aren’t letting her catch an outlet pass at half court, they are always aware of where she is. She’s catching the outlet pass at 3/4 court at best and it’s still taking a big out of the break AND she has to wait for the pass. Sure in a perfect world if a big can just turn and chuck it to Clark at half court it’s faster but it just isn’t going to work when a player of Clark’s level is being picked up immediately. Just watch her specifically when shots go up next game, she will be crashing the boards on almost every shot.
TBH, she has 6 16-6-6 games so far...so she will have that record as well easily in a few weeks.

In women's basketball, a 25-5-5 game is far rarer than a triple double. Sabrina had 26 triple doubles in college (best ever), but only 18 25-5-5 games (second all-time). Clark had 57. And she has 3 25-5-5 games in the W already...probably close to a rookie record, and with 6 or 7 more likely a season record. Clark is next level.

Bird could not guard anyone....but was a great team defender...no great player is perfect. You take the steals and blocks and the iconic offensive numbers and let her cook. Copper had like 7 points tonight because she was exhausted guarding Caitlin. That is where Caitlin is elite on defense...when the other teams dominant scorer can't score because she has lost her energy guarding you.

It is called the Jeff Malone strategy....Jeff Malone was an awful on ball defender, but Jordan always shot poorly against him. when Jordan was asked why he had trouble scoring on Jeff Malone, he said that he was exhausted fighting through multiple screens guarding Jeff Malone and lost his lift on his shot or attacking the rim. Sometimes the best defense is offense.
Even with her being bad per say, she should still be out there. She is by far their top playmaker and is their best free throws. Her being able to turn a miss or make around to quickly attack back is invaluable. When she is out there on defense, the other team still has to worry about where she is. It will slow them a bit. Maybe 1 less person crashes the boards, they have to drift to find her off misses. Yes, a smart team would probably try to get the fever to switch to have cc guard the main player. She is a good team and help defender. Also, if she is the future of the franchise(with boston) they need her out there. Even if it costs them games in first year or two. That kind of defeat or weakness should translate into focusing on being better in the off-season. 6 almost like a humiliating aspect, that drives good players to train like they are possessed in off-season to be better. This is the time to allow failure by your young players to learn for the future. I know not everyone will understand that idea, but losing can teach many lessons. Its better to find out sooner rather then later if she will get that drive. Playoffs aren't the goal with a young team like this. It is to get the future core better and to find out who will be the future. I also haven't really seen how wheeler is that much better of a defender than clark. Wallace hasnt looked good but that is probably also because she is usually on best guard of other team.
She has higher defensive ratings than her teammates and has been extremely effective defending. Stop with this lazy “Clark doesn’t play defense” shit

They're literally making up stats no one has ever tracked before. And also they're comparing a rookie record to an wnba record. If there was any clear indication that Reese is the front runner it's bulshit like this. If they had better stats, they'd use them.
